Is It Good To Stay Virgin Until Marriage?

Many people believe that staying a virgin until marriage is a rite of passage, signaling a transition from childhood to adulthood. However, it is important to remember that this decision is not necessarily right or wrong. Some women who have chosen to remain celibate until marriage have experienced various challenges in their relationships.

A recent study found that women who have had one partner instead of two are about 5 percentage points happier in their marriages, with the boost that possessing a healthy relationship can provide. Some women also want to stay a virgin until marriage, but they must not rush into a marriage based on hormones.

Virginity is not only for the female child, but also for the male child. The works of the flesh are evident, and it is essential for both men and women to remain chaste until marriage.

Some people argue that being chaste is only for the female child, but it is not exclusive to the male child. It is important to remember that being chaste is not exclusive to the female child, and each man should have his own wife and woman’s husband.

Comedian Joy Behar recently joked that abstinence is what you do after you’ve been married for a long time. However, it is important to remember that sexual activity that occurs prior to marriage is referred to as premarital.

In conclusion, while it may be challenging for some people to remain a virgin until marriage, it is a choice that can lead to a better life if you move past your backward beliefs and insecurities.

How to know a girl is virgin before marriage?

Testing is done before marriage. To find out if the girl is a virgin. Some countries do it to stop the spread of STIs. It is also done on rape victims.

How can a man know if a woman is virgin?

To be sure, ask her. Virginity means no experience. If someone has had sex with her or seen her having sex, they can say she isn’t a virgin. But she is the only one who can say for sure.

Is it important to be a virgin before marriage?

But when it comes to marriage, especially arranged marriages, a woman with a sexually active history is still seen as a problem. Why is virginity so important? How does this affect women? Dr. Mahindra Vatsa, a gynecologist and sex counselor, says it’s because our traditional values are still strong. “One of the most common questions I get is ‘How do I know my bride or girlfriend is a virgin?’ “There’s no way to know,” says Dr. Watsa. He says it’s just men and their families being unrealistic. How does our culture not stop couples from having sex before marriage? “Once a couple is engaged, they think they can do anything,” he says. “It’s not a big deal.” Some men still complain to me that their wives did not bleed on the first night, so they think she is not a virgin. The hymen doesn’t always break when a woman has sex. Some women are born without it, some are so elastic that it never ruptures, and some are so fragile that a little activity may have ruptured it without them even realizing it. “It’s not possible to tell if a girl is a virgin just by looking at her,” says Dr. Rajan Bhonsle. “It’s also not possible to tell if a girl is a virgin just by asking her.” He adds that in a relationship, it’s more important for couples to focus on virtues like trust and honesty. “A woman’s past sexual activity shouldn’t be held against her. “She’s honest for admitting it, even though she could have hidden it,” he says. Some men, especially those raised in traditional families, are influenced by their family members. “In these families, being bold is equated with falling in love or having sex before marriage. They think that if a girl has sex before marriage, she will keep doing it after. Actress Sophie Choudry says that most people in Mumbai and other cities don’t expect their partners to be virgins anymore because India has changed a lot in the past 10 years. India is no longer closed. Young Indian women work and make their own choices. The Indian man has had to adapt to this change. Girls from smaller cities and more conservative families face pressure to stay virgins until marriage. But an intact hymen doesn’t guarantee virginity. A woman’s hymen can be ruptured by non-sexual activities like intense sports, dancing, riding a motorcycle, etc. It’s not necessary for a virgin to bleed the first time she has sex. In fact, only 42% of women bleed on their first time. With modern technology, a plastic surgeon can easily reconstruct the hymen. Remember, virginity and chastity aren’t the only things that make a marriage happy. Honesty and trust are more important. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more stories.

Is it OK to be virgin till 20?

It doesn’t matter. Virginity is a social construct that makes us think there’s something wrong with us because we haven’t had sex. Sex isn’t everything in life. Your sex life doesn’t define you. It doesn’t define you. The concept of virginity is heteronormative, sexist, and erases trans and queer experiences. It can cause problems like self-doubt, shame, and relationship problems, according to GoodTherapy. The best way to embrace your virginity is to challenge the media’s hypersexual culture.

Can a man tell if a woman is virgin?

To help our patients and debunk myths about virginity, we created a leaflet at the gender violence clinic in Port-au-Prince. A leaflet for doctors to use during consultations and for patients to read in the waiting room. “Doctor, can you check my daughter’s virginity?” No. There’s no physical sign that shows a woman is a virgin. No physical exam can tell if a person is a virgin. “What about the hymen, doctor?” The hymen is an elastic membrane in the vaginal canal. It’s not a reliable sign of virginity. It can be penetrated without breaking, but can be torn by other activities. The hymen is a membrane made of connective tissue that can become more or less elastic. The hymen can vary in shape from missing to perforated. Also, if it is torn or cut, it is hard to know how it happened. Many experts believe that the hymen is not a reliable indicator of virginity or vaginal sex.Despite the lack of scientific value and the physical and psychological consequences, virginity tests are still performed on girls all over the world for different reasons. These include reducing premarital sex and HIV infection in some parts of Africa, as part of a recruitment and job requirement for the Indonesian police force, for forensic evidence collection after a sexual assault, and for assessment of premarital virginity or lack of wedding night bleeding. Globalization has led to virginity testing becoming more common in countries like Canada and Europe. This should raise concerns and encourage medical boards to reflect on the ethics of this practice.

Being a virgin is relative. Some people think it means having sex, while others think it means being intimate with another man. Your husband may never know if you’ve had sex unless you tell him.

  • I,m 25 year old woman and still a virgin. It’s really not easy. I,ve dated once and ex was so impatient to have sex with me meanwhile I told him the first day we started dating that I,m keeping myself for marriage and he agreed. The pressure was so much on me and he easily get angry because of that so I broke up with him and decided to be single till I meet my husband. Guys it’s not easy but I know it’s worth the wait so don’t give up

  • Me and my wife waited due to our beliefs and morals. And after 11 years I have no regrets. It gives the marriage a since of honor, and puts sex in balance. Its not the most important thing to have a happy marriage, yet its the first thing that so many people chase after. Its sad to see the beautiful arrangement of marriage God made being perverted today, but people tend to follow the flesh not the spirit. Enjoyed your points Lizz

  • This was a beautiful article. I am a 13 year old virgin tell marriege Christian. I believe that divorce is wrong and that your virginity is a a special gift for marriage. I think I just needed someone ( outside my family) to encourage me. I would never have sex before marriage, but the world is a messed up place and hearing this reminded me who I was. Thank u.

  • Hi, I have never had sex in my entire life. I have never had a man enter into my body. I would like to save myself for marriage… My parents married when they were 25, and they have never divorced or remarried. I am really scared of men or people in general, thank you for sharing your voice and vid. You are very pretty, Lizz!

  • Hey lizzie,I’m a Catholic and Father frm my church introduced you to me,that’s how I came across ur website,I am so glad im here, even the father frm church says you inspired him, thank you for sharing this, its really important to do things by Gods plan, thts how you’ll see the beauty of marriage, and also im in the process of understanding NFP. God bless you 🌺

  • I love how everything you say is so in line with other religious teachings about staying a virgin until marriage as well. SO MUCH TRUTH, i wish more people were taught this and were raised with these values and teachings. I’m a Baha’i and stick strongly by this and its so hard living in a society where so many people question me and immediately place a label, dubbing me ‘conservative’. From now on i’ll just show them this article if they ever ask or question me. Thank you for explaining everything so well haha

  • Lizzie, you are absolutely right in what you said here. I hope people take your advice. I’m part of the generation that messed up society but your generation can start to fix it. Truly, sex should only be within marriage and marriage should only be between 1 man and 1 woman. The problem my generation faced, and failed with, was sex outside marriage. It’s wrong and always will be. The problem your generation is facing is same-sex marriage and same sex relationships. They are wrong and always will be. I want you all to know that doing things God’s way doesn’t mean you will always be happy. I was never married but neither was I divorced. I don’t make articles but as a 68 yr old man I’m telling you all Lizzie is right in what she said. I know this is true because I’ve experienced some of it, and I’ve watched others live through it. Do things God’s way.

  • Could you do a article about how to become happy (like longterm, not temporarily), what are your needs are how to forfill them, also maybe regarding bipolar, borderline, depression, anxiety. I’m thinking the kind of article that can include god, but also doesen’t so it appeals to everyone? I just think it’s an important topic a lot of people need to see. Both for myself, but also for others especially young people, I see these constant problems with happiness and I think a lot of them takes place in not knowing or needs and boundaries, but only knowing our wants and not dealing probably with not getting all our wants etc. I think it could be quite the interesting article. I feel like you are the right person for this kind of article.

  • Liz, BRAVO ON THIS article ❤ I am 48 years old. And Yes, still a virgin!!! I decided I only want to marry My soulmate. I have had 2 heartbreaks in My lifetime . Each time I walked away, as these women know their zero interest in Me wanting to have sex. I simply just wanted to be a good Man. And in the end, I could walk away with My head held high ❤

  • Amazing article as always (but all yours are, so I can probably stop saying that!) I love the whole way you go about it, all the connections you help us see, etc. The only thing I might change is the title, from “stay a virgin” to “abstain from sex,” unless you also provide some clarifications about what “virginity” really is. The reason is that I already see a previous commenter who seems distraught at the title because she lost her virginity through rape. I definitely think virginity is a morally and theologically significant concept (the Virgin Mary, the NT’s speaking of the Church as a “pure/spotless bride,” many OT examples, etc.), but when a lot of people hear the word they just think of it as a physical state. And then, if they’ve already “lost” this state (in whatever circumtance) they despair. But as I replied to that commenter, I think it’s something that can’t ONLY be “taken,” it must also be freely given. And as a spiritual as well as a physical reality, it can be renewed and healed even if it’s wrongfully given. So I do think we need such a further explanation when we speak of “virginity” as an ideal, or else we’re best just speaking of celibacy/chastity.

  • I love you Lizzie for using Taylor Swift in your article haha. But I completely agree with everything that you say. I regret losing my virginity to my first love. Whom we are worlds apart and no longer friends. I’ve only slept with one person, but I’ve lived a sexual immorality life through the use of porn. While my friends were doing drugs, I was using porn as my “drug”. The thing I go to comfort myself during stressful times. After years I started to recognize my deadly patterns and decided to change my life and stop going to porn was my water. Jesus is my everlasting water whom I will never go thirsty again. I still struggle with sexual immorality and I’m fighting it day by day. It sucks having all of the memories of my sexual activities and it’s images haunted in my mind. Now I see relationships as a preparation for a marriage. I want to be that person who will meet my spouse or prepare my ex to meet her husband. I imagine myself walking the bride to her new husband. Saying that I’ve prepared her for her marriage.

  • Hi Lizzie,I was just thinking that doesn’t the fact that you’ll use natural birth control sort of undermine you saying that you disagree with birth control as the purpose of sex is children ( I get the whole wanting to look after the environment and protect animals part, but was a little confused to do with the sex is meant to produce children part)

  • Yes, but my ex basically forced me into marriage because he was worried about premarital sex. LDS generally stress getting married young. I got married at age 20 (back in 2000). I’ve been celibate since my divorce. My sister and her SO were so worried about getting in a divorce because both side’s parents had a divorce (and I had a divorce too). They have been married after 7 years, and my sister is now pregnant! I had a dream last night where my sister and her SO were going to the chapel because somebody said they weren’t married the right way for a child, it was a strange dream.

  • This article is SO good!! Thank you for making it and all the research that went into it. I am also so surprised about your views on birth control but I completely agree! I have been reading the works of Pope John Paul II on the whole topic of sexuality (Theology of The Body & Love and Responsibility) and I think you absolutely have to read it!! He says so many things you say as well and he has such a direct, clear way of putting it. Kind of takes effort to read but incredibly illuminating 🙂 <3

  • Children are expensive. I am a public school teacher. LMBO I get enough children in my life. 900 to be exact. I cannot imagine going home to my own children after leaving school at this point in my life. I’m only 24 & single. So I have time to change my mind, especially if whoever my husband wants children. But right now, Im happy looking at everyone elses babies. ( :

  • Other than the directly religious element of it (I am an Atheist after all) I agree with most everything in this article. I think a strong nuclear family is one of the most important things in the world. There is a lot more to it than just casual sex, but that is most definitely a contributor. I won’t say more though because I think it would be a big discussion, too much for the comments section of a article I think.

  • That’s really interesting. Thank you for backing up your points so well. I think it would be challenging to never use birth control, because sex is pleasurable. Even if you’re married, you’re going to want to have sex for fun and not just to make babies. However, if you are trying to deprive yourself of pleasure on purpose, your argument makes sense.

  • Hey Lizzie I’m curious since your definition of marriage is to have kids how does that affect your view on gay marriage? You’ve made it clear in the past you don’t think it is biblically wrong but how can they be married if they can’t physically have kids? Is it the same to you as a sterile straight couple?

  • NFP. For anyone interested, please look into using a thermometer+app such as the Daysy to increase its effectiveness & convenience. If more women knew about apps/tools like the Daysy, it could greatly reduce the number of women who resort to hormonal or surgical methods which harms their bodies, as well as their relationship with God.

  • I like this idea, but I have 2 concerns. 1. Marriage does not guarantee anything, nothing does. Divorce happens and it’s not about trying to make it work, of course marriage is work, but it’s better to be divorced and happy, than in a sad marriage. 2. What if you have terrible sex and then you are committed to have sex for the rest of your life and it just doesen’t get better, that can tear a marriage apart too. In an ideal world, where people marry the right people and stay together for happiness reasons, this is great, but thats a small percentage of the world. I’m not a virgin anymore and I don’t regret it, but advice to everyone NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE OR CHOOSE: BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHO YOU HAVE SEX WITH AND REMEMBER THINGS CAN CHANGE AND PEOPLE ARE LIES AND DOESEN’T ALWAYS HOLD THEIR PROMISES.

  • I never knew about Oxytosin. I don’t think I could survive a pregnancy, and I don’t want to find out. I learned that in my marriage, and I let my husband get a divorce so he could marry someone that was ready to have a child. I’m on birth control for hormonal reasons. But I have a mental illness too, and I’d never want to have kids (I’m 38 anyways). I had an irregular cycle, and birth control helps that. OMG!! I stayed with my dad after my parents got a divorce. I’m really close to my dad.

  • I generally agree with most of your points, however, I’m hesitant to value staying married quite so highly. It’s obviously a good thing in general. But a lot of people who stay married have very difficult and tumultous relationships. I would speculate that people who have such strong beliefs about sex outside of marriage would also be more likely to have very dogmatic ideas about staying married. So they will likely remain married, even when a relationship is toxic and miserable. So perhaps not having sex before marriage creates happier marriages, and that is why they stay together more often. Or perhaps people who have dogmatic mindsets about sex will also have dogmatic mindsets about staying married, even in very undesirable, unpleasant situations, and that’s why they stay married. I’m guessing it’s a mixture of both.

  • I think birth control can be a good thing. (No disrespect for your goal to use Natural Family Planning.) We tried that at it didn’t work. lol. People who are married and love each other but don’t want to gamble with “Natural Family Planning” shouldn’t be shunned. ( not that you were trying to do that.) I want to be careful because I don’t want to give the wrong idea as to what you said, but in my opinion, people should have the right to raise a family according to their financial, economic, grounds. Because yes marriage is about raising a family, but it is also about to people being connected to grow and MATURE before having multiple children because someone advocated (not you) for not using birth control. I could be wrong in my interpretation of what you said, but Christians divorce rate is SKY HIGH too, which you DID mention. So, the idea that Christians have a better grasp on marriage is preposterous. Yes, Christians who are compatible and live out their faith in LOVE and FAITHFULNESS have a better chance of staying together. I grew up in the church, and people are just as quick to divorce as non-believers.

  • I remember talking to a chick and she was a Christian and she was like nah homie, i wanna be closer to God and I dont wanna have sex. So i thought okay that’s cool cuz she wants to be closer to God, that would help me too, BUT! later I found out she got with some other dude and it showed me that she was right, she didn’t want to have sex …with ME. So I’m all for people having a sexual attraction towards each other, fighting and sometimes falling short on that front but at least be honest with people about it.

  • It’s actually been proven that those who wait before marriage to have sex their marriage the couple will more likely remain with each other until death separates them. It’s saving oneself for marriage and the gift of giving oneself which is what’s really special. Fornication leads to commitment problems. Think about this there is trust issues which is why one or both persons don’t want to get married. Well by living together and not being completely commited to the other person when they do get married those feelings of not being fully committed remain. So when problems arise in the relationship they don’t feel fully committed to that person instead of trying to work things out they leave the relationship and the marriage ends in divorce. The Blessed Virgin Mary had no other children. She remainef a perpetual virgin all of her life.

  • Agreed. The act of sex for a woman is so different than it is for a man. She has a whirlwind of emotions. If you get with a woman who is NOT a virgin then she is NOT yours. I believe you if you want a long lasting healthy relationship then you two should know everything about your partner. Then if you two agree that you to “love” or trust, are ready to be a team then have sex. It changes everything

  • What bothers me is that by saying you need to have children you really don’t understand that some people are NOT fit parents. Some people are not going to be good parents and to feel pressured into having children even though someone does not desire to do so and also knows they will not be a fit parent, it’s not okay. That’s not fair to the child. Sex needed to be about reproduction in the past because that’s something we needed at the time. As culture and times change, so does needs and the way we navigate certain things. We don’t need to have children now how we needed to then. It just shocks me when people say people need to have children…

  • I met a young Christian girl. She was a churchgoer and very religious. She dressed conservatively. She went to church every Sunday and celebrated every single religious holiday. She had icons all over her room. We started talking. We were getting along quite well. We eventually fell in love. We decided to get married. A couple of days before the wedding, she said that there was something she needed to tell me. She admitted that she was not a virgin. She confessed to having sex with her ex (while she was with him). She also told me that they filmed the whole thing and that she had a sex tape!

  • People abstains mostly out of religion, but I’m a virgin who doesn’t have any religious background. No matter how much red pill PUA techniques that have shifted my dating approaches, and no matter how much the girls who I dated have hurted me — there can only be one girl at the time who I date, until she fades amongst the ocean of crowds, until she reveals herself the one who is meant to bond with me.

  • I’ve heard a lot of arguments like I was basically forced by my bf to have sex or I did it in high school, it was a mistake. ‘Forced’? ‘Mistake’? A mistake is an unintentional action, like locking keys in your car, you don’t choose to lock your keys. Or taking a a left turn when you needed to take a right turn. Your intention is not to not get to where you want to go. With the exception or rape, all sexual action is a choice. You choose to have sex with your bf, you choose to do it before marriage. Choose not to do it from here on out

  • Here’s a good article which is pretty relevant to this topic. It’s an interview with Jennifer Roback Morse (from the Ruth Institute) on the topic of marriage and its importance in society, & the adverse effects of contraception, no-fault divorce, & the sexual revolution. The Patrick Coffin Show just uploaded the article today – youtu.be/uG1Hnd8kLjQ

  • No fault divorce? I think that includes my parents. I can’t help but think my mom’s SO is the reason why she left my dad. My uncle is so lucky to have his girl friend. She had a bad marriage, and doesn’t want to get married again. But they are best friends. And guess what? She had my name, the same first name. I’m happy they have each other. My uncle traveled a LOT for his job, and I don’t know if he ever had a girlfriend or not? He’s old too, I don’t know what I’d do if he passed away!! I love him a LOT, along with my dad. I’m so much more attached to my dad’s side of the family, I think it has something to do with the fact that I got that’s side hair color? Sorry, I have a lot to say about this topic. As an ENFP!!

  • Lizzie, I agree with a lot of what you have to say. It is better for kids to grow up with both parents but the reason kids are without fathers isn’t “because of how the courts work”. That is a myth, it’s because dads don’t value their role as a father. If you have a look at the statistics, over 90 percent of the time, custody is decided out of court. Even of those that take legal action, usually, an arrangement is arrived at, without actually going to court. In the small majority of divorces that result in a custody dispute that actually ends up in court, men are statistically more likely to win custody, even if they are undeniably abusive or dangerous. Look I’m all for traditional families, but don’t go all MRA on us. The problem is lazy men who don’t step up and take responsibility for their actions.

  • It is interesting, she says that 90% of married Americans report having had sex before marriage and that 83% of them declare themselves Christians…. Is this a systemic problem in the discourse of leaders of Christians themselves or not? So many concessions and relativizations of the Bible. May YHWH keep us… excellent article, I subscribed

  • The virginity until marriage is not a fight against hedonism. It has been implemented at a time where DNA tests did not exist. As a procreation needs 9 months between the impregnation and birth, it could happen many things during that time. If we know who the mother is when she gives birth, the woman can be impregnated 9 months ago by another men. If the woman stay virgin until the marriage and does not cheat, then the man should be the father of all children born from that union. It is just a practical answer to a practical issue.

  • I have to disagree with some points: 1: Not Getting Divorced in the Future Sex is more than physical pleasure. It is a bonding experience. For me, I usually have sex early on and the experience causes me to fall in love. Different people have sex differently, and for some the sex may not be good. Bad sex drives couples apart while great sex glues them together. If you marry first and find that the sex is bad, what do you do? Regarding the divorce rate, that has more to do with laws that favor women. Look up MGTOW for details. 2: The Neurochemistry of Sex is Addictive & it Bonds You I have to agree with most of this. Where I disagree is this: You’re omitting sexual desire. Sexual desire may draw people together even if they’re not actively having sex. If sex is on your mind while remaining abstinent, then you may rush into marriage, which would cause more divorces. Look at the statistics of the divorces of people who have married after knowing each other for just a few years. 4: Sex and Marriage are Given More Meaning This is entirely subjective. If you’re secure with each other, you may be able to share your sexual experiences with each other and enhance your existing sex life. Having only one sex partner limits the diversity of your sexual experience. 5: Long Term Happiness Again, this is mostly subjective. You talk of hedonism as a bad thing, or anti-pleasure, as you phrased it. The definition of hedonism is the doctrine that pleasure or happiness is the highest good. In this regard, hedonism is ultimately what drives all behavior.

  • Dear you are very wrong to say that having sex in a committed relationship is close to God! That is not of God at all! God said be marry and multiply, He says to get married then have Intimacy only and no other way, we are not to commit any sexual acts outside of marriage which God calls fornications! your friends are committing sexual sin and fornication out of marriage and that will lead them to hell! You are telling a different Gospel that is accursed and not of God, what you are teaching is not of God! Galatians 1:8-9 KJV But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Now this is the truth of God says and what the Gospel and His truth tells us, God said we are His temple we are a temple of the Holy Ghost and we are to honor God completely with our bodies and live by the Spirit of God and walk only in His ways and resist all sin and evil. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 KJV Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. Lastly this is from GotQuestions.org, fornication also involves engaging in any kind of sexual relations before marriage or between two people who are not married.

  • for a man the virginity of his woman is only important if he intends to marry her. if he does not want to marry her and does not have children with her, she can also already be deflowered by others, so he will never have any responsibility. moreover, it is women who give importance to their virginity, who consider it a gift to make to a special man, so it is obvious that men want to be the first for the woman they love. the male desire to marry a virgin woman is a natural consequence of a female desire to give oneself to a special man. The virginity of women is important because it is women who make sexual selection. Great power carries great responsibilities. Many men think this but don’t say it for reasons of sexual opportunism. I’m Italian.

  • Hi honey, absolutely no offence to you lovely girl but I am unsubscribing. I find that your website has become too random in its content. As in, i am an agnostic and subscribed to your website because at that point it was all or mostly about depression and bipolar disorder which is what I was looking for help with. So I’ll gladly look for your articles in the future but I am so not interested in the other articles, which are now most of them, that I am unsubscribing. Just thought it would be nice to give u some genuine but kind and constructive criticism. Lots of love girlie xxx
