A healthy marriage is both a partnership and a headship, reflecting both principles from Ephesians 5. Marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, a covenant relationship between a man and a woman, intended to be a lifelong union. It is a partnership where husband and wife are called to complement each other, working together as a team to use their unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. As partners in marriage, individuals embody different aspects of God’s character and together reflect His love, grace, and creativity.
God designed marriage to meet the human need for companionship, as seen in Genesis 1:28. Christians believe marriage is a partnership of love made deeper through sex, with Jesus acknowledging this in the Bible book, Matthew. The primary purpose of marriage in the Bible is the procreation of children and the establishment of families.
Marriage is a covenant agreement between God, man, and woman, with both spouses supporting and caring for each other. The Bible emphasizes mutual support and partnership, with the importance of fulfilling each other’s physical needs within marriage. The use of “partner” in marriage relationships reveals a disconnect between modern understanding of marriage and that which is visible in Scripture.
The Lord has defined marriage for us, saying, “For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh.” Life’s greatest partnership is in marriage, that relationship with lasting and eternal significance. While marriage is a partnership, it is not of equal partners, and the husband should make reasonable rules and final decisions.
In conclusion, marriage can both be a partnership and a headship, reflecting both principles from Ephesians 5 and other biblical teachings.

What does Jesus say about marriage?
In the second, the Pharisees ask Jesus: “Can a man divorce his wife?” Jesus says that the commandment is due to their hardness of heart and that man and woman are one. Watch the video. Many look to the Bible for guidance on morality, including marriage and divorce. Professor Luke Timothy Johnson says this may be shortsighted. “Don’t read the text to support your current beliefs,” says Johnson, a professor at Emory University. The question should be, “What is asked of us?” Johnson recently gave a lecture at Emory Law on Christianity and Law. He is a world-renowned scholar on Christianity and its origins. He spent a decade as a Benedictine monk before marrying. He now has thirteen grandchildren.
What is a partnership in Christianity?
Partnership is a formal relationship between a local church and a Christian. Partnership is just a reflection of the relationships and community that already exist in the local church. 1 Corinthians 12:27-28 says, You are the body of Christ. God has placed these in the church. In the New Testament, Christians are part of a specific church community where they grow in their faith. Some people think church membership means making people jump through hoops or being part of a club. Or they think it means setting standards for entry. These things sound like the opposite of God’s grace, which is free. Why should we encourage church partnership in the modern age? Here are three reasons why becoming a Partner at Elm City Church is a great thing. The New Testament implies that you must become a member of a church. The New Testament has 59 “one another” commands! Some of the “one anothers” for followers of Jesus are: We are to accept each other (Rom. 15:7), care for each other (Gal. 6:2), commit to each other (1 Jn. 3:16), and be accountable to each other (Eph. 5:21). These commands make sense only in the context of a local church.
Are all marriages put together by God?
God makes and God breaks. If marriage is about unbreakable love between Christ and his church, then no one can break a marriage. If Christ breaks his vow to be with us forever, then a human being may break his marriage covenant. Jesus rejects the divorce provision of Deuteronomy 24:1-4 (Mark 10:3-9) and says, “What God has joined together, let not man separate” (Mark 10:9). God makes marriages, so only God can break them. He does it by death. The traditional and biblical marriage vows have one limitation: “Till death do us part,” or “as long as we both shall live.” Four Questions. When someone takes a stand on the sacredness of marriage, there are many questions to answer. I’ll try to answer some of the most important questions in this message. 1. Does death end a marriage, making it OK for a spouse to remarry?
Is it a sin to marry a divorced man?
In Matthew 5:32, Jesus said that anyone who marries a divorced person also commits adultery. The Bible says you can’t remarry unless your spouse dies.
1 Corinthians 7:39 – A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If her husband dies, she can marry anyone, but he must be a Christian. If I were single, I’d trust God to get married. If I were divorced, I’d trust God to help me stay single. If I can’t be faithful, I’d rather get married than have sex. I’d rather get married and be faithful to one person than have casual sex, masturbate, or use sex toys. Jesus is the final authority.
What is partnership according to the Bible?
A partnership is an agreement between two or more people to work together to achieve mutual goals. The Bible has many examples of partnerships. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says two are better than one. In Luke 10, Jesus sends disciples out in pairs. In Exodus 17:8-15, Aaron and Hur help Moses hold up his hands, which helps Joshua and the Israelites defeat their enemies. Why is marriage partnership?
Your partner’s thoughts and feelings affect your decisions, and yours affect theirs. Sharing power and accepting influence in your marriage is vital to building a true partnership.
Why is partnership not marriage?
A marriage is different from a permanent life partnership. Couples in a permanent life partnership don’t have the same rights, duties, and obligations as married couples. This is because marriage is a formalized and legally recognized union in South Africa, while a domestic partnership is not legally recognized. Domestic partners don’t have the right to maintenance if the partnership ends. The lack of protection is based on the choice not to get married. In the Volks case, Skweyiya JA said that not getting married means not accepting the legal responsibilities and benefits that come with marriage. If you don’t marry, you can’t complain if you don’t get the legal benefits of marriage. She has to live with the consequences of her choice. Just as getting married is a big decision, so is not getting married. The choice not to marry affects one’s life. The main differences between married couples and those in domestic partnerships are recognition and non-recognition of the union. This means that if you marry, you get rights and duties. If you don’t marry, you don’t get any rights. The article now looks at the constitutional rights of people in permanent life partnerships.
Is a marriage a partnership?
A marriage is also a legal and financial partnership. Married couples must manage money, make joint decisions, and communicate about many day-to-day issues.
A marriage is a legal relationship. When you get married or start a business, you create a new legal relationship. Marriage connects your and your partner’s money and property. Marriage affects your legal rights in several ways.
What does the Bible say about a marriage partner?
- Bible Verses About Marriage. Genesis 1:27-28: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him
- male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
- Genesis 2:18–22: Then the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone
- I will make him a helper fit for him.…So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh
- and the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
- Genesis 2:24: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
- Ephesians 5:25-29: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church…
- Ephesians 5:33: However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
- Matthew 19:4-6: Havent you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
- *Bible Verses About Faith. Malachi 2:14-15: But you say, Why does he not? Because the Lord was witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
- Proverbs 3:3-4: Let love and faithfulness never leave you
- bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
- Romans 12:10: Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
- Romans 13:8: Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
- Isaiah 54:5: For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name
- and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.
- 1 Peter 3:7: In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in Gods gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
- 2 Peter 1:5-7: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness
- and to goodness, knowledge
- and to knowledge, self-control
- and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.; 1 Thessalonians 3:12: May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.; *Bible Verses About Kindness. Ephesians 4:32: Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.; Hebrews 10:24-25: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching.; Ecclesiastes 4:9-11: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?; Ecclesiastes 4:12: Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.; Ephesians 4:2-3:…with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.; 1 Thessalonians 5:11: Therefore encourage one another to build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.; Proverbs 18:22: He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.; Ephesians 4:29: Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.; Matthew 7:12: So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Is marriage a partnership with God?
Marriage is a partnership with God. This is not just talk. If this partnership is strong, the man and woman will love each other as they love God. This will bring success to their home. The first marriage was performed by the Lord. It was an eternal marriage because there was no time when it happened. The ceremony was for a couple who would never die. After the fall, Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden. They were promised resurrection. Their marriage was never meant to end. In the temple, we receive the highest ordinance for men and women: the sealing of husbands and wives together for eternity. We hope our young people will get a temple marriage.

Dr. Tony Evans (@drtonyevans ) shares a powerful word of encouragement on marriage during our special Marriage Night event!
I see my wife for the first time, often. She absolutely takes my breath away. She was what I always wanted. Over anything else, I wanted my wife and my life with her. She gets more and more beautiful everyday. I love my wife more today, but not as much as I will love her tomorrow. God is so so good. Jesus for the win.
This is true!!! I always asked God in my prayers with all my heart to get married at young age (I am 20.) But not just get married, I mean getting married with the person He knows I need, the person for me, and he exceeded every expectation and I am happily engaged right now ❤ You are worthy of all the glory, God ❤
I cared for my abusive husband for the last 45 years. The last three years he had a V fib and was in and out of the hospital. I was there all day all night caring for him. I know that God has a Boaz waiting for me. One who is a leader in ministry to get souls saved. I asked that you would believe with me for a quarah and that I would have Joy in the last season of my life. In Jesus name.
One of the very sad things my dysfunctional parent taught me was, “Be careful what you ask for; you just might get it”. And sometimes, she made me regret the things I requested. Life itself also brought deep disappointments. This made me anxious about asking God for the desires of my heart. If mere humans could turn my wishes against me, how devastating might the all-powerful God be? BUT NOW, thanks to Pastor Prince’s Biblical teaching, I trust my Heavenly Father. He may not give me what I ask, but He will never turn my prayers against me. Hallelujah!
im in this season of finally seriously dating. ive been in a lot of failed of relationships and like what Joseph prince said, im also at the point where i no longer want to go through another season of failed relationships again.
