My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding is an American reality television series that focuses on the marriage customs of Romani-Americans (Gypsies), allegedly members of Romanichal clans, although some are actually of Irish Traveller descent. The show is a spin-off of Britain’s “My Big Fat Romanichal Gypsy Wedding” and has been available on various streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and Amazon. The show explores the unique and ancient traditions that have shaped and defined the Gypsy community for hundreds of years.
The show features Gypsy sisters Nettie, Mellie, Kayla, and Laura, who come together in Martinsburg, WV, revealing that things are far from perfect in their lives. The series also explores the traditional way of life in traveler celebrations, where the large tight-knit family has been a family affair.
The show also covers the lives and traditions of the Gypsy and Traveller communities in the US, where they mostly live in secret but still practice the frequently misunderstood groups. The show is available to stream on Tubi, The Roku Channel, AHC GO, Discovery, and Apple TV.
Grabbing is a controversial ritual practiced by some Irish Traveller men as a way of expressing their love. The show is currently available to watch on HBO Max and can be found on Tubi, The Roku Channel, and AHC GO.

What is TLC actually trying there? These are no gypsies! To get things straight: Real gypsy girls are not like that! They are classy, they have respect for their families, especially their parents – NEVER would they dare to behave like this! And most important of all: They have values!!! Shame on TLC for exposing a folk that has a traditions three times as long as the whole Effing american nation in such a rude way! Really, SHAME on TLC.
I don’t understand that this young woman is forced to choose a man who she doesn’t know. I don’t know what the protocol is for travellers? Ive seen other TV shows that show the travellers gathering and the young men grab the girl who they consider they’re marrying. It may be a very old tradition? But I respect that people from traditional cultures, have every right to do as they see fit. We don’t have to always understand or agree. 😊
