Should You Get A Wedding Planner?

A wedding planner is essential for backyard weddings, where you create your own venue and need assistance with decor and inventory. They can help move decor from ceremony spot to cocktail hour and reception areas, alphabetize place cards, and place them on appropriate locations. Choosing the right wedding planner depends on the type of wedding you want planned, budget constraints, and the availability of friends and family.

To find the perfect wedding planner, use your network and consult with friends and family members for recommendations. The average budget for a wedding planner is $2,000. If you don’t hire a planner, book early to ensure you get the best service. If you are having a destination wedding, consider finding a local wedding planner.

Organize your wedding planning journey by compiling correspondence with vendors, notes, and photos. Set up a special email address dedicated to your wedding and store important vendor numbers in your phone.

The cost of a wedding planner has slightly increased from 2022 to 2023, with the average cost increasing slightly from $1,900 to $1,700. Hiring a full-time wedding planner allows couples to enjoy their day without worrying about last-minute hiccups or logistical issues. They provide timelines, checklists, and planning sites to help bring your vision to life.

A planner can also help find the best wedding vendors for your celebration. However, if your organization and planning skills are subpar, your demanding job, destination wedding, or venue lacks proper resources, hiring a planner can be a valuable resource.

What is the most expensive part of a wedding?

Most expensive wedding features. The cost of a wedding depends on the ceremony and reception. The average wedding cost in 2020 was $20,300, but this can go up if the wedding is more extravagant. The most expensive parts of most weddings are the reception venue and food and alcohol. 1. Reception venue. The reception venue is not a single, large cost. It is a series of above-average expenses that add up quickly, especially if the bridal party gets a package deal from their venue. Renting a venue, catering the event, and providing other necessities make this the most expensive feature of weddings. Wedding reception venues often cost:

Venue rental: This is often one of the priciest parts of a wedding reception. Venues cost about $9,261, which is one of the most expensive parts of weddings. Couples have to rent tables, chairs, and other furniture to fill out a venue hall, which increases the cost. Catered food and drink: Catering is one of the most expensive parts of a wedding. If the venue requires the couple to hire their own caterer, it will cost them more. A wedding of 66 guests costs $4,075 on average, or $62 per plate. As wedding sizes return to normal, food costs will rise. Food costs will likely rise for more extravagant weddings. Hosts can save on venue costs by offering a cash bar instead of an open bar.

Why don’t you need a day of coordinator?

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life. You’ll want a professional team by your side who knows you and your preferences. With this extra attention to detail, you don’t have to worry about small details like how you want your flowers to look. A wedding planner makes the wedding planning process much more streamlined because you already discussed expectations months before. Your planner can focus on the flow of your wedding, not on projects that could have been planned ahead.

Watch out for free labor. One reason people hire day-of coordinators is because they’re cheap. A $500 wedding planner seems less expensive than a $3,000 one. But beware of any coordinator who says they can do everything a planner can in just a few days! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

  • My experience is that having a joint email account is a great asset even beyond the wedding planning. It’s so useful when you’re setting up emails for rent and billing purposes, and anything else down the road where you both need access to someone’s or something’s contact information, such as a realtor or your child’s school. 10/10 would recommend.

  • “New level of communication unlocked” what a polite way of saying everyone goes bat crap crazy when there’s a family wedding being planned. LOL grandma focusing on salmon-both the color and the food. So true. The smallest things become hyper important – like defcon orange– and always out of left field. Even my mom, who is the smartest, sanest, most tactful and loving person, was stressed out and dying on the hill over minor things that had no real impact. The rest of the family just lost it. And yes, you really see who and what your fiancé is during this time. After 35 years, my husband and I still believe if you can survive the wedding with your relationship and sanity intact, the marriage part is cake.

  • These articles are my wedding planner! So amazingly helpful. My cousin (who is a professional photographer) couldn’t be more thrilled that I’d already heard about an unplugged ceremony. I’d love to see a article about the pros and the dangers of pintrest. I have absolutely fallen down some pintrest wedding rabbit holes😂

  • I found the bigger the wedding guest list (literally anything north of 50 people), you NEED someone in your corner. I had 125 (15 of whom rsvped TWO DAYS before) and I missed a lot of little details because I spent too much time the month of the wedding putting out fires and putting my foot down with family who didn’t talk to each other so it was a massive game of telephone with nobody listening to what we, the damn couple, wanted. I had family literally ruin memories for both me and my family because they, in their genuine wish to help, went with what they thought would be best instead of talking to my wedding party to let us know first. We had a lot of planned things go wrong because some even behind my back to change how things happened. Also I had both my mama and my aunt arguing with me about my linen picks (which I already was compromising on because I had basically 3 weddings planned at different budgets that depended on how much we’d have available), all in-front of the venue director of operations who is an old family friend – calling my picks boring and ugly (they wanted outdated prints in brighter colours and they would have clashed with what I wanted to order in flowers from Callia – which I told them about beforehand- but we went with diying our centrepieces from Michael’s, which we didn’t even know what flowers would be available on sale to pair with what was chosen in linens (all the floral colours I did choose in the end my mom also fought with me over in Michael’s which brought up 26 years of emotional issues that stem from her always trying to strong arm me into doing what she says 🫠).
