Was Rules Of Engagement Based On A True Story?

Rules of Engagement is a 2000 American war legal drama film directed by William Friedkin, written by Stephen Gaghan, and based on a story by Jim Webb. The movie is a fictional story that takes inspiration from real-life military incidents to create a compelling narrative. The film centers on the relationship between two Marine colonels, Hays Hodges (Tommy Lee Jones) and Terry Childers (Samuel L. Jackson), who are both bitter veterans seeking revenge for their actions during the Vietnam War.

Rules of Engagement is a military courtroom drama that explores the concept of justice in times of war and raises important questions about the accountability of those in charge. The film is part war movie, part courtroom thriller, and features a war hero put on trial for a rescue mission gone terribly wrong. The film is a blend of drama, war, and thriller genres, with the ending appearing to be based on a real case.

The movie has been criticized for its lack of combat experience in those in charge and those supposed to protect our troops. However, it has captured audiences with its witty humor and engaging plotlines. The film has also been compared to Ken Loach’s “Based on a True Story” series, which often concludes with the caption “This film is based on a true story but the characters and names have been changed.”

Is A Marine Story Based on a true story?

A 2010 film about the US military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. Marine Major Alexandra Everett is honorably discharged because she is a lesbian. After returning home, she stops a shoplifter and helps a young girl named Saffron. Saffron has to join the military in a month or go to jail. Alex helps Saffron prepare for boot camp and military life. However, Alex’s sexual preferences are soon revealed to the town, causing problems for her and Saffron. This film shows examples of: Amazonian Beauty: Zigzagged trope. Alex is attractive and muscular, but this isn’t fanservice. Only two characters like her, and one can’t handle her being stronger than him. ArmoredClosetGay: Alex and her husband are gay, because of Dont ask, dont tell. Based on a True Story: The story is fiction, but the circumstances behind it (Alex being thrown out of the military because she’s a lesbian) were real before the repeal of DADT. Bittersweet ending. The epilogue of the movie opens with the announcement that DADT has been overturned. Alex is happy with her life, but it stings a little that it happened so soon after she was discharged. Bookends: The film opens with Alex walking to her house. It ends with Saffron walking to her house. Alex arrives around midday, and Saffron arrives at sunset. Brick joke: Alex arrests Dale at the end. She says he got a citation for hitting her with his car. Once captured by Burner, she stops him from raping her, burns her wrists, and blows up a meth lab to save Saffron. Alex beats Dale at arm wrestling and punches him. He tries to hit her with a car, stalks her, and takes pictures to prove she’s a lesbian and imply she’s in a relationship with Saffron. Alex arrests him for operating a meth lab. Compare Turk, who also got beaten up by Alex, but became one of her friends. Drill Sergeant Nasty: Alex is a former drill sergeant. On their first day, she gives Saffron a taste of the real deal. She uses it as a threat. Alex is living with a woman from a lesbian bar. Saffron survived and is now a Marine. Alex and many other soldiers got out because they couldn’t hide their sexuality. Burner was already an abusive jerk. Then he tries to rape Alex, saying he’ll film it and implying he did the same to Saffron. OldShame: Alex’s lesbian past as an officer. Retired Badass: Alex retired, but she was a Marine. Semper Fi: Marines. Training Montage: Alex teaches Saffron self-defense and some military skills.

  • Great review! I always thought about how the prosecution had such a strong case in only a circumstantial way. They failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that childers was guilty. I don’t see Sokal could not see this coming, upon realizing the manifest contents. It was even pointed out that bullet/casings/evidence of guns were found in the crowd area — but how can that be, if small arms fire was coming from rooftops directly above the square? As sokal admitted off record, the yemeni government prolly removed all evidence at the scene.
