She killed him when she learned he had plotted to kill her last love, Ragnar. In season five, we meet Vibeke as a child. She was raised by her mother in a Danish warrior cult in Iceland. Cox says Brida is a loving mother. She’s grateful to play a softer side to a character whose axe does much of her talking. They’ll sail to the estuary before dawn and keep the boats apart to avoid scouts. When they reach Mercia, they’ll attack Aegelesburg and kill King Edward. Brida says they’ll kill Æthelred too. Wessex will help Mercia. They’ll lure Edward out and fight on their terms, taking the country. Hæsten asks how Cnut tamed Brida. He says he treated her well and loved her. (Episode 4.1) Brida, Hæsten, and Cnut lead their army into Tetsworth, the Kingdom of Mercia. They’ll rest there and attack at first light. Get the Mercians to sleep. Hæsten asks how far Aegelesburg is. Close enough to catch them off guard. Brida answers. Hæsten plans to leave. He doesn’t like war; he likes women and silver. Brida tells Hæsten he’ll miss a big army gathering. Edward must defend his sister and mother. Aethelred’s death will lead to a quick response. They’ll ride into Mercia and force a battle. Cnut calls Cnut and Esgar. He wants them to go with Hæsten until the campaign is over. Hæsten wonders how Cnut got Brida to follow him. She says they made a blood bond. Hæsten says he knows Brida is pregnant with Cnut’s child. He can tell by her breasts. Brida threatens to cut off Hæsten’s balls and feed them to him if he tells Cnut. Cnut calls Brida over as he rallies the men. He tells them to rest because they’ll attack at dawn and burn Mercia. (Episode 4.2)

How does The Last Kingdom series 5 show the borderlands and burhs? We go back to Mercia and Uhtred is at Rumcofa (Runcorn) with his men. This settlement on the Mersey is on the edge of Christendom and on the border of the Mercian kingdom. It is a trading community where pagans and Christians live side by side. The Welsh are not mentioned, and the scale and character of the burh are unclear. There is only one watchtower beside the river. The picture shows a port with a mixed community. This is good.
The Rumcofa Cross. In The Last Kingdom, Christians worship both inside and outside. This is good. Monks bring a painted cross onto a jetty and later erect it for Father Benedict to say prayers. The monument is a wheel-headed cross made of wood or metal. It is painted in dull gold and red. Runcorn is shown as pagan and in need of Christian missionaries. The crosses are used for festivals and worship. The crosses are symbols of conversion.
Does Stiorra have a child?
She has a daughter, Gisela Sigtryggrsdottir, but she dies from the plague. Stiorra might be pregnant, but she doesn’t know it yet. Her symptoms will start soon.

By the end of season 4, Brida is vengeful and cruel. She starts a crusade against Christianity in season 5. Brida becomes a villain and castrates Uhtred’s son, Young Uhtred. Stiorra kills her, but Uhtred still can’t hate her. Aethelflaed. Aethelflaed and Uhtred were separated. Uhtred and Aethelflaed were in love in The Last Kingdom. They have similar morals and care about the people they’re responsible for. They are both strong, brave, and caring. They admire each other. Their different social statuses made it hard for them to be together. Aethelflaed is the daughter of a king and becomes the Lady of Mercia. Uhtred is technically high-born, but his upbringing as a Dane would make him seem unfit to marry Aethelflaed.

Sigtryggr doesn’t give Uhtred to Brida because they’ve made peace and he and Stiorra, Uhtred’s daughter, like each other. Brida feels betrayed and says her son will be loyal to her. She goes to the woods and gives birth.
Season 5. Iceland: Vibeke and Brida live in Iceland. Brida is gentle and affectionate with Vibeke. Brida taught Vibeke about the gods and thinks she can see the future. She wants Vibeke to decide who will be sacrificed. While blindfolded, Vibeke wanders among Brida’s followers and holds the hand of a man who then walks into a volcano vent. The volcano spits lava, and they stop as a sign from the gods that they are ready to go back to England. Brida, Vibeke, and followers rush to the boats and leave.
Eoferwic: Brida and Rognvaldr invade and seize Eoferwic. Vibeke sits in the background playing with runes and feathers as Brida kills people in the square and gathers pagans to save them from Christianity. Brida gathers a dozen women and gives Vibeke the job of choosing who to sacrifice. Vibeke wanders the crowd, holding people’s hands, while one of Brida’s men kills them. After five women have been sacrificed, Vibeke holds Rognvaldr’s hand. He says the gods made a mistake and he needs to be here to do the work of the gods. Brida says the gods have spoken and that 5 is enough. He decides to cut his cheek instead of killing him.
