Instagram engagement is crucial for connecting with your target audience and ensuring success in the social media landscape. It involves various actions such as visiting your profile, clicking on links, asking for directions, likes, saves, comments, and more. Engagement rates are calculated by dividing the number of followers by the number of likes and comments received per post.
Instagram engagement includes shares, saves, Instagram story views, mentions, and direct messages in response. To increase engagement and visibility, use grid posts, videos, reels, stories, Lives, and IGTV. The algorithm loves using the whole platform, so increase your visibility by using as many formats as possible.
To get a more accurate Instagram engagement rate, multiply (likes comments saves)/followers * 100%. This formula is based on 12 recent posts in a profile and gives you the median engagement rate for these publications. Organic Instagram engagement and a consistent posting schedule go hand in hand, and a good engagement rate falls between 1% and 5%.
Good engagement serves as social proof and reflects positively on your brand authenticity. It indicates people are stopping to interact with your content, rather than scrolling on by.
Accounts engaged highlights the total number of accounts that interacted with your content in a given time period. By engaging your audience and getting more likes, comments, and shares, you can build deeper connections with your target audience and achieve better results on Instagram.

What is the difference between engagement and interaction on Instagram?
Interaction and engagement are different. Interaction means the audience does something. Engagement is about how involved the audience is and if they value the content. A class can have interaction built in, but the audience can easily do the activities without getting any value.
First, interaction can take many forms. There are three types I value most: between the facilitator and learners, between the learners, and between learners and tools. Facilitators and learners can discuss in the main room. Learners can interact in breakout rooms. Finally, learners can use interactive tools like polls and whiteboards. These types of interaction break up a lecture and keep the audience engaged. Just because there’s interaction in the class doesn’t mean it’ll be engaging. A class can be engaging even without interaction. Virtual learning is more interactive because it’s easier for students to check out. How do you make content engaging? To make content engaging, provide value to the audience. The more they care about the content, the more they will want to stay engaged. Make the content relevant to the audience and their role to get them invested. You can make the audience invested even if the content isn’t relevant. First, find out what the audience wants from the class. Use this knowledge to adjust the message to meet expectations while staying on track.

Is engagement better than reach?
What’s the best metric for my campaign? It depends on your goal. If you want to promote brand awareness, reach is fine. More people will know your product. For most cases, engagement is better. It’s better to create content with low reach but high engagement. Facebook favors content creation. A post with lots of replies is more likely to be seen than one with just two likes. Each reply is another piece of content, which means more likes, replies and shares. Reach doesn’t always mean interaction. Good engagement rates lead to more exposure. Why is Instagram engagement important?
Why is Instagram engagement important? Engagement on any platform shows how your content is being received and who your followers are. You can only know if your content is having an impact if you see how it is being received. If it isn’t, you can make changes until it is. A million followers are useless if they don’t engage. Why is Instagram engagement valuable? Engagement is everything on Instagram.
Is engagement better than followers?
A smaller, engaged, and loyal community is often more valuable than a large but passive audience. Engagement means genuine interest, aligns with your brand values, and is where conversions happen. As a small business owner, social media can feel overwhelming. Some see a large follower count as a symbol of social proof and credibility. On the other hand, you need to engage with your audience. What matters most for your business? Follower count matters. It’s often the first thing potential customers, partners, and even competitors notice. On average, a small business on Instagram has about 5,210 followers. This number shows how many people see your brand. It also shows how popular and trustworthy your brand is. While followers are just a starting point, engagement keeps your audience engaged. Engagement lets you connect with customers. This is where relationships, trust, and sales are started.
Is 1000 views on reels good?
Get 1,000 views on Facebook and you’ll earn a few dollars. Reels can be a great side income, but you need a large audience to make a good income. If you’re working with a brand, you and the brand only get paid per view or 1,000 views. These numbers can be high. How many views on your Reel do you need to get paid on Facebook?
What is an example of an engagement rate?
Engagement is calculated differently on different platforms. For example:
Total engagement on Facebook is shares, likes, reactions, and comments. Total engagement on Instagram is likes and comments.
The user can change the makeup of “total engagement” any way they want. The user may want the total engagement on Facebook to include only likes. If the user uses the same method for all their calculations, such alterations are valid. For example, consider these Facebook pages that created brand campaign posts: If someone thinks “total engagement” should only include likes and comments, they should use the same standard for all their Facebook pages.
Do views count as engagement on Instagram?
Views measure the number of people who have seen your post. Engagement is the number of clicks, comments, likes, and shares your post gets. You want your content to be seen. But you also want people to find it valuable and interact with it. There is no simple answer. Look at the context of the content.
Does engagement increase followers?
If you engage with your audience, your content will be seen by more people who are interested in your brand.

I watched this article yesterday, made a couple changes to my IG profile and my captions, and I’ve gotten about 15 more followers so far. I think you’re onto something! One thing I’m having trouble with is getting people to subscribe – I’ve had a few reels get thousands of views and likes, but those views and likes aren’t turning into followers. Any advice?
Thank you for this! I’m unsure if I should stop sharing my newest posts on my stories because they’re the stories with the lowest engagement and my views usually plummet after posting it. I know it’s a good thing for followers to see the posts but it’s not helping my stories at all, it seems like it’s whenever I repost something on my story the views stop.
Thanks for the article Millie, this was very helpful and informative! Anyone thinks starting a new account can help? Like not having a “record” for # maybe won’t be confusing the algorithm? I have a very old account (like early IG days lol) and I’m wondering if starting a new one from scratch can actually help
This was AWESOME!!!!! I truly enjoyed perusal this article and appreciate your genuine nature in teaching your audience. They are sent together, not after you press 8 pictures and press send, and then he still sends them in one grid ,I can send you a sample if possible
I have an unrelated IG question. I have searched everywhere and can’t find the answer. How are some IG accounts having larger thumbnails on their IG feeds for reels? Some accounts have all larger images (2x as tall) and some have only their reels 2x as tall. Help?!? Also a tutorial for making attention getting thumbnails for IG reels would be helpful. Thanks!

Can you make a article for that.
Helloooo, I am having serious trouble with my reels views. They are too low, I mean they are like stucking whenever I release them.even though I get likes, Ig dont show them anybody. Views are stucking between 200-300 .Never ever can have 4k or something. Do you think it can be technical problem or something? I feel like if got banned or my account is death ? Do I need to change my account? I watched and tried almost everything you have been suggesting in youtube articles but doesnt change anything . Please, give me some different idea 🖤🖤Love youu.
Good tips about Instagram. But I suggest to change the approach of the “Free Webinar” you offer because it is just a article, it is not a real webinar and I think to fool people it’s not the best way to sell, to inspire trust and to create a community. Thanks anyway for all you exposed in this YouTube article, that was interesting.
