0:49 – 1:22 With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. ✋🏻 Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. 🍷 Ah, Mrs. Everglot. You look ravishing this evening. What’s that, Mr. Everglot, call you “Dad”? If you insist, Sir. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. 🕯 With This Ring, I Ask You To Be Mine. 💍
Risë Hickey (Me): dressed as Sarah Sanderson (Wiccan), I got myself ready to do a reviving rite I’ll have to do this ritual in complete secrecy; no force o’ evil must ever know. I cast my spell, reciting these words: W/ this hand, I’ll lift thy sorrows, Halloween magic flowed outta my hands like a vast ocean wherein the seawater was deepest thy cup’ll never be empty, forth I’ll be thy wine, I drank a powerful “Blue Moon Resurrection” elixir w/ this candle, I’ll light thy way in darkness, I lit a candle which I’d earlier dipped in blue glow-in-the-dark glue & w/ this ring, I ask ye to be mine. I placed a mystic Blue Moon Diamond ring on the middle finger of a statue resembling Michael Jackson perfectly; as the Halloween Blue Moon arose in the night sky, its light shone down on me, bouncing off my glowing eyes & off the glowing lit candle into the Blue Moon Diamond ring, which made the lit candle, the ring & the statue shimmer like starlight; admist the lit candle being snuffed out as it still glowed, soon the statue’d transformed into Michael Jackson (Maestro)
I think about this scene a lot, despite the negative first impressions Emily and Victoria had with each other, Emily’s always been portrayed as an incredibly empathetic character. Her wedding gift to Victor was reuniting him with his cherished childhood dog, she went with Victor to meet his parents because she wanted to be seen as a good daughter-in-law… and during this scene, knowing the truth about Victoria originally being engaged to Victor, she realizes that she’s putting someone else through the heartbreak that she went through. And it hurts her. I have a lot of feelings about this movie.
Honestly this is a cinematic masterpiece. Emily realizes that Victoria loves Victor as much as she, herself does. Knowing this, (being the amazing character she is) she gives up Victor and stops him from drinking the poison. The part where she speaks is absolutely beautiful “I was a bride; my dreams were taken from me. Well now, now I’ve stolen them from someone else.” And the way her voice cracks into almost crying just shows how much she really loves Victor and knows (seeing Victoria in the back perusal) that Him and Victoria belong together. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
You want your hearts to really break? Even while buried under the tree she saw him throughout his life whenever he visited the woods. Theres a deleted scene on you tube that explains it. Thats how she knows his name and about his dog. She died a few years before the movie’s plot kicks off and over time she fell in love with Victor while she was trapped. Its why shes so excited and ahead of herself never thinking to introduce herself until he asks her name and then is heartbroken later on when he lies to her. Then in the end she gives him up, because she truly loves him even when passing on to heaven.
I love noticing little details animators do for characters that we don’t usually think about because humans do them naturally. This time it was how Emily blinks a few extra times right before the tear falls down her face. Like, that’s something that we actually do when crying and you don’t think about it really, but somehow the animators did. It’s amazing.
I feel like people get the wrong idea what this movie is about they think it is a love story. In a way it kinda is but it’s a love story about loving yourself. Emily wanted so badly to be married she was willing to to take it from someone else but she realized that was wrong and she only wanted him to live a fantasy that was not real. She then lets him go with his soulmate and she movies on and maybe whatever is next for her maybe her soulmate whoever they are or she finds happiness in another way. 💙
While, I do wish this movie was more cliche and Emily got married to Victor, Victoria did love him. I honestly think Victoria and Emily act similarly. This is a right person, wrong time. Emily was rich, clearly shown. Due to this information, Emily and Victor could have gotten married if they were in the same time period because Victor and Victoria’s marriage was arranged for money. They fell in love once knowing they had one common interest, music/piano. I really think Emily could’ve gotten married under the same circumstances as Victoria.
