Enjoy the festivities. My green room is open all night.”

Is Black Veil Brides a goth band?

Once called “the most controversial band in the universe,” the LA goth metal group has angered fans again by adding boyband-like big choruses to their music. Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy riffs now go with hard-rocking, pop-punk breakdowns and a whiff of One Direction. With lots of “whoa whoas,” Vale might appeal to well-adjusted adults. However, there’s still plenty for the hardcore audience of disaffected, sullen, kohl-eyed teens. The music has string sections, spoken narratives, and hair metal. It’s produced with a lot of effects. The album has songs about outsiders and death. When They Call My Name is an epic tale of battling with insanity, which invites lots of fist-pumps.

Is Black Veil Brides emo or goth?

Wikipedia says Black Veil Brides is an emo rock band. No more stereotypes. I hate the term “emo” for anything. People often call my rock bands “emo.” This pisses me off. I call my rock music “scene.” My last post explains why I dislike stereotypes. Stereotypes make people narrow-minded. Sorry for the rant. Anyway, back to my point. Alternative rock has a wide range of sounds. I had no idea what to expect from Black Veil Brides. I watched some of their music videos on YouTube. I don’t usually look up music videos. This shows how much I wanted to know about Black Veil Brides. “Heart of Fire” and “In the End” were my first Black Veil Brides songs. I wasn’t expecting such a hard rock sound. Black Veil Brides’ rock sound is very different from Andy Black’s The Shadow Side album. Black Veil Brides is one of the hardest rock bands I listen to. Only my symphonic metal and nu-metal bands come close to this heavy hard rock sound. I like variety in rock subgenres. It took me a few days to get used to Black Veil Brides’ music. The drums, bass, and two electric guitars made a beautiful, complex sound with Andy’s deep voice. This is the perfect combination. My ears loved it. I was hooked.

  • Seriously, people are so controversial. You first insult someone for what he does, for what he has dedicated his life to, you treat the whole band like shit and then you’re suddenly pissed and angry just because he obviously tried to stand up for himself. Honestly, what else could he have done in that moment? They were accepting an award, so as soon as the audience started being rude, they defended themselves. It’s obvious, they couldn’t just stand there and shut up, they needed to react somehow.

  • You know its sucks that people that listen to Metal or Hard Rock are seen as outcast by the rest of society but instead of coming together we feel the need to further split ourselves up. We split the songs up into hundreds of genres and then sub genres. Fans of one band try to talk down to fans of other bands. Even within the same fan base people are divided and are either seen as die hard fans or fake fans/casual listeners.

  • Ladies and gents, this is how Justin Bieber feels with everyone talking shit about him. He constantly has cameras shoved in his face, death threats, and insults about his family. I don’t understand why people judge him when he backlashes when a normal person would do the same to defend themselves. For example, when he cussed at the paparazzi, that was acceptable in my opinion because they trash talked him and disrespected his privacy, so they got what they deserved. I completely understand Andy as well.

  • Stop fucking hating on BVB. If it’s because of the makeup and personality I can understand. But the only time Andy’s and asshole is when he’s standing up for himself. Also the makeup days are over. The music is actually very good when you think about it. It’s a real rock and roll Record. Obviously KIZZ, AcDc, guns n roses etv are legends and you can’t compare, but BVB is a rock band trying to carry over that real rock sound. If you want to hate on a band, hate on blood on the dance floor… A band who promotors rape.

  • It’s sad that this is generally the one piece of evidence that people have when they say they think bvb is rude, they were giving out to the other bands that were talking trash on them the whole ceremony and telling them basically “whatever you think of us, the fact is that we’re standing here and you’re not.” Bvb are an open-minded group, simply defending themselves against people who were talking down on them

  • I hate the fact that people expect famous people to be perfect. Anyone could have cracked in this situation…there is only so much someone can take. And maybe he doesn’t handle his anger well, but that’s his personality; he is attacked and he retaliates, that’s the way he knows how to defend himself because he’s had to take crap from people all of his life. Being downtrodden by society, I can’t imagine not exploding.

  • This is TRUE rock in roll, they don’t care what people think of them. In an interview, they read all the haters comments and Andy doesn’t care. I mean seriously, Why waste y’alls time on trying to bring them down? Also, to all of you who call him a hypocrite, yes he does tell people to be themselves. But then there’s people like y’all who judge us for it. He’s standing up for us. BVB has a frickin’ army, what do you have? That’s what I thought. So if you’re gonna comment and start hating on Andy, rethink. Because no one cares what you have to say. I know people are gonna be like “Obviously you care if you’re commenting” but no. I’m standing up for what I believe in, and I’ll continue to do that even if that means standing alone. I hope this ends all the hate on this article.

  • I think Andy and Ashley have to right to be angry. This isn’t just because I love this bad (and I’m not a girl mind you) but the audience there is incredibly douchy! Like seriously, they won song of the year and everyone goes on ahead and boos? I support Andy and Ashley’s choice. Also Ashley did actually thank everyone who supported them at the end of the speech.

  • what you don’t see in this article is the people throwing shit and spitting at them BEFORE they even went on stage. Andy has talked about it in SEVERAL interviews that he was angry and upset because they were literally just sitting in the crowd but people were being assholes to them for no reason. how the fuck would you react if there were assholes throwing shit and spitting at you and fucking with your band?

  • You know, I only ever liked like two of their songs, but seeing this acceptance speech has convinced me that they are the greatest band of all time 😂. F*** everyone at that show for being so rude and disrespectful to the band. They didn’t nominate themselves and they sure as hell didn’t make themselves win the award lol. Maybe inspire your fans more so they vote for you instead of a band you might hate like BVB 🤣. Obviously they were doing something right to win an award 3 years in a row, at least in terms of fan support

  • I fucking love it! Dude shouldn’t have been talking shit in the first place right? Booing at an awards show? Really? That’s total bullshit and jealousy. Anyone would defend themselves when being verbally attacked. More power to Mr Andy Biersack. You fucking rule! And I’m not a teenager in case you’re wondering. I’m 49, an old school of metalhead and have much respect for BVB. Remember this kiddies: promote what you love, don’t bash on what you hate. It just makes you look stupid. Words of wisdom to the youthful and or ignorant.

  • Its funny how almost everyone that watched this article were here to give Andy hate… XD is there even any BVB army here? These people in the audience were being disrespectful to BVB. Its not like they nominated themselves, they should be mad at the people that voted for them (me), not the actual band!! I wouldn’t be spitting at fucking Dethklok if they won! I don’t think you guys understand that the reason they won 3 years in a row is because they are fucking good

  • I get why Andy reacted the way he did. Being spit at and booed for putting out a song few didnt like. Its bound to drive you over the edge at some point and youre bound to lose your temper. I feel like the majority of you who clicked on this article were looking for something to hate. Just imagine being him in that moment. How ever “gay” you choose to call him, or how ever much of a “fag” yoh think he and his mates are. Grow up, get over it, and move on. We honestly dont need anymore hate.

  • Ok I fuckin LOVE BVB and forever will be BVB ARMY FOR LIFE and it pisses me off that those people in the crowd were horrible and mean to them, I understand why andy and bvb reacted the way they did, I mean it makes me so mad that people give bvb hell and shit cause they changed, “WELL GET THE HELL OVER IT” people change, and every person commenting mean things and hating on bvb, with all do respect “GO THE FUCK SOMEWHERE ELSE” cause these guys CHANGED MY LIFE AND SAVED ME and I love them with all of my heart♥ and if your a real fan you would NEVER turn your back on bvb and the bvb army, shame on all the people that do and shame on the people who hate on bvb

  • I love BVB! My brother hates them though just simply because the first time he had ever heard about them, was when he saw this. He’s never even heard their music. He just thinks they are rude. Okay yes Andy said some pretty mean things. Those people kinda deserved it though. No one boos BVB! No one throws stuff at BVB and spits at them!! No wonder Any was pissed. I would have been too. BVB ARMY!!!

  • Why all the hate from the audience? Yes Andy is not the best at controlling his attitude, but they won for a fucking reason. They are super dedicated in their art, they enjoy what they do and they ACTUALLY HAVE FANS WHO ARE FUCKING AWESOME AND DONT JEER TOWARDS OTHER BANDS WHEN THEY WIN AN AWARD. They deserve that award and by the way, Andy was referring to joe when he said fat ass

  • Lol at all the ppl saying he should of let it go, it was already explained like a few days after that Andy had to deal with a guy continuously saying shit about his girlfriend, that’s what got him riled up. Any of you would have done the same thing if someone was saying shit about YOUR girl/boy friend

  • I can’t see why anyone could like them … they don’t deserve nothing after this crap want to see how a true rock star acts search Corey Taylor Golden Gods … these guys will burn out you dont act like that No matter what …. this is no real contest out of them all in the Category should have been Avenged Sevenfold hands down

  • I wish people would stop bashing bvb for not being metal, like people act like that’s a valid reason to bash them when they just don’t like their music or think they’re “emo” losers. Believe what you want about them but do not fucking say that you hate them because they’re not metal and they’re emo. First they aren’t even emo. Second they don’t even make metal music they make rock music. Everyone thinks a bunch of fat and old men can only make rock and metal so they freak out when they see young attractive guys actually making rock. Also who gives a fuck about the what the genre is? Just enjoy the music. If you don’t like it then you can go listen to your shitty music.

  • first of all who cared about some award show, which is merely the record “industry” blowing smoke up its own ass and acting like its doing something for music besides gutting it out and capitalizing off of it. Second having your song on the radio only means you are a commercial band, lumping them into a categorized arena of bands who have money backing them who have to literally sell themselves for every dollar they earn and give you a product that has been created based off of demographics. Third the job of a producer is to produce music for bands in their studios meaning that the majority of what you heard on an album was by the idea of the producer, not the members in the band. Fourth bullying sucks when you are subjected to bullying, but it doesn’t suck when you preach anti bullying to sell it to a bunch of kids who are subjected to bullying ironically because they most likely listen to your band and look like you.

  • “Black veil brides won 3 awards in a row” wow you won three awards in a row?!?!?! This is the least rock n roll act that could ever happen, only because they won best song of the YEAR doesn’t mean shit, all new music is crap. The singer’s voice just generally irritates, can’t tell if that’s his real voice or what. I’m sorry but the singer is absolutely big headed about the band on how “successful” they are, deliver the hate!! 🙂

  • Not their best performance or acceptance. They’re not usually like this this is really bad example of them. But the whole entire audience was booing them. he wasn’t just supposed to sit there and smile I can tell you nobody would be happy about that. I was really disappointed that they were intoxicated too. I don’t know why they would drink before that but.. Black Veil brides is not a bad band and Andy biersack is not a bad person this is just a really bad show for them because of what they were given.. Ya they were cocky but andy doesn’t do good with haters. They have had much better shows than this. this is probably their worst one.

  • I have to admit, it was a little disapointing to see my favorite band act like that. I am honestly having second thoughts about the whole bvb army thing. Their music is awesome and their personalities idk. I just dont know what to think about it. I so need to think about cause they might loose a fan and then again might not.

  • sigh… I remember when.. all the games began.. every little lie.. and every last goodbye… Andy B is so obnoxious, hes a little brat. Ivan Moody, you all should look him up, he sings with his fans, he even brought up a 12 year old boy who was insecure and never been to a band concert before and sang with him. Meanwhile band leaders like Andy are just plain rude and fucked up. Its about the fans, and thats why us Hardcore metal lovers that are becoming obsolete will always stay by Five Finger Death Punch’s side.
