What Did The Defense Of Marriage Act Do?

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was a US federal law passed by the 104th Congress in 1996, which banned federal recognition of same-sex marriage by limiting its definition to the union of one man and one woman. This law altered the traditional relationship between state and federal government. The US Supreme Court declared Section 3 of DOMA unconstitutional, allowing states to decline to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

The Respect for Marriage Act, passed by the United States Senate, codifies same-sex and interracial marriages and repeals the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman. This repealed DOMA, which barred the federal government from respecting the marriages of same-sex couples who were married under state law, excluding them from federal recognition in over 1,000 contexts.

Public support for same-sex marriage grew from about a quarter of the public in the year the Defense of Marriage Act was enacted to 71% in Gallup polling this year. The bill repeals the Clinton-era Defense of Marriage Act and safeguards interracial marriages by requiring that valid marriages are recognized regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin.

The Respect for Marriage Act strengthens protections for families and expands the federal protections of marriage to all married loving, committed couples and their families. It establishes a federal definition of marriage as only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and spouse as only a person.

Why is Douma so powerful?

  • Abilities. Biological Absorption: Doma displayed the ability to completely absorb and devour an entire human body without eating them, having completely broken down and incorporated Shinobus body into his own within only a few seconds after killing her.
  • Extrasensory Perception: Like all members of the Twelve Demon Moons, Doma possesses senses honed to nigh-superhuman levels. He has displayed multiple times that he is able to detect and perceive attacks even from places he is not looking at, allowing him to fight at a more efficient rate. Doma was later stated to be able to sense the exact locations and statuses of his fellow Demon brethren during the Infinity Castle Arc, later he was even able to detect Akazas transformation into a being immune to decapitation and later his death despite being fairly far away from him.
  • Immense Strength: Doma has incredible physical strength, mainly due to the amount of Muzan Kibutsujis blood he assimilated, possibly making him stronger than Akaza because he is one rank higher. Doma can swing his dual fans at subsonic speeds rapidly and incessantly without fail. He can also swing his fans with so much force that it generates gigantic gusts of wind.
  • Immense Mobility: One of Domas physical capabilities is his extraordinary movement speed, being able to move immensely faster than the eye can process, making him subsonic or possibly supersonic. This ability has been showcased multiple times during his battle in the Infinity Castle Arc, the first being when Doma killed one of his cult members right in front of Shinobu without her reacting to it until after the womans body exploded, another being when he was able to evade Kanaos superhuman vision and steal her Nichirin Blade effortlessly which even took her several seconds to process it along with him evading Kanaos Flower Breathing: Fourth Form – Crimson Hanagoromo with no difficulty whatsoever. Another example was when he swiftly stole Inosukes boar mask without neither him nor Kanao noticing it.
  • Immense Durability: Doma has displayed incredible durability, even when he was severely weakened. Domas neck couldnt be cut off by Kanao Tsuyuri even when he was severely poisoned and took seventy times the lethal Wisteria Flower dosage required to kill a normal Demon.
  • Immense Regeneration: Doma displayed incredibly powerful regenerative abilities, as seen when Akaza punched off both his lower jaw and his upper head and he swiftly regrew himself with little to no effort, even considering the fatal attack to be a friendly gesture. Even when Doma himself absorbed Shinobus body and ingested over thirty-seven kilograms worth of poison, approximately seventy times14 more than the lethal amount needed to kill an average Demon, it still took a considerable amount of time before it began to have any adverse affect on him.
  • Keen Intellect: Complementing his cold and calculating disposition, Doma is exceptionally intelligent. While fighting at super speeds with Kanao Tsuyuri, he was able to process and deduce her abilities, surmising that it was her superhuman eyesight that allowed her to parry and dodge his ice attacks. After leaving Kanao and Inosuke Hashibira to fight his ice clones, he construed that Inosuke not inhaling his ice powder was because of his extremely acute sense of touch. It is hinted at that Doma was able to trick and deceive all of his followers, allowing him to kill and eat them. He was able to keep this up for over a century with almost complete infallibility. Doma also possesses incredible memory, being able to remember even the most insignificant details from back when he was human, which was over a century ago.
  • Reactive Adaptation: During his battle against Shinobu, he is able to break down and render all of the various poison mixtures Shinobu injected into him useless, immediately developing antibodies to her poisons without much trouble. His adaptive abilities even shocked Shinobu Kocho.
  • Tactical Intellect: As a member of the Upper Moons who has lived for over a century, Doma has been through maybe hundreds of different combat situations and threats, which he always managed to circumvent and overcome. During his battle against Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira when he could keep up and overwhelm both Pillar-level Demon Slayers simultaneously while not even fighting seriously.
  • Tessenjutsu: Doma is incredibly skilled in Tessenjutsu due to having centuries worth of experience in wielding his pair of Japanese war fans for combat purposes, superior to even Akaza in overall combat skill despite him having significantly more combat experience. Hes so proficient in Tessenjutsu that he is able to take on both Inosuke Hashibira and Kanao Tsuyuri, who were Hashira-level during the fight, effortlessly. Domas Tessenjutsu incorporates his cryokinetic Blood Demon Art which enhances its lethality and range. With his exceptional skill in wielding his Japanese war fans, he can cause huge gusts of wind and expertly deflect incoming attacks and unleash precise strikes with his dual fans.
  • Unlimited Stamina & Endurance: Doma possesses absolute and infinite stamina and vitality, never tiring and always remaining in optimal physical and mental condition all the time as well as being able to endure waves of onslaught as if it were nothing. He showed almost complete immunity to being repeatedly violently attacked by his fellow Upper Rank, Akaza, having his eyes slashed out by Inosuke, being repeatedly poisoned and stabbed by Shinobu, having his stomach slashed open by Kanao and inflicting various forms of extreme self-harm to himself. Doma never once expressed the slightest bit of pain, discomfort and panic at being wounded so grievously, having been able to nonchalantly and calmly continue fighting, talking or doing whatever else he is doing as if nothing is happening.
  • *Blood Demon Techniques. Barren Hanging Garden: A series of 8 to 10 successive fan attacks that create gusts of razor-sharp ice shards to slice the enemy into pieces.
  • Freezing Clouds: Doma creates a large wave of dangerous ice particles and uses his fans to scatter them, freezing any object that comes into contact with it.
  • Frozen Lotus: Doma creates several ice lotuses with razor-sharp ice shards to increase the range of his attacks and to ensnare his enemies.
  • Scattering Lotuses: Doma creates a blizzard of long-ranged ice shards shaped like lotus petals capable of tearing a persons flesh to shreds.
  • Cold White Princesses: Doma creates two female humanoid figures with ice able to blow cold wind, similar to that of Freezing Clouds, towards their intended target. However, unlike Freezing Clouds, it is noted by Kanao Tsuyuri that this technique has a much larger and wider range. Doma noted that the princesses are able to record and save whatever they see, as Doma planned to record both Inosuke and Kanaos techniques in order to create suitable countermeasures against them.
  • Wintry Icicles: Doma creates multiple ice spears/stakes to impale his target from above. This attack can seemingly materialize out of nowhere.
  • Lotus Vines: Doma shapes his ice into several lotuses and creates large frost vines that extend his reach and can capture or slice up his opponents.
  • Crystalline Divine Child: Doma creates miniature ice replicas of himself to battle his opponents. He has shown to be capable of creating up to five clones of himself at once, all possessing the same amount of combat prowess as Doma himself and fully capable of using any of his Blood Demon Arts, albeit not to the same caliber as himself. These children are able to record any information it gathers during battle and relay it to Doma, allowing him to better fight his opponents.
  • Rime — Water Lily Bodhisattva: This techniques has been noted to be Domas strongest Blood Demon Art and his last ditch attempt. He creates a large Bodhisattva ice statue to attack and destroy his targets. Not only can it deal huge amounts of physical damage due to its sheer size and weight, but is extremely durable, being able to withstand multiple attacks from Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira with little to no damage. Its most notable trait is its ability to generate huge gusts of Domas deadly ice powder capable of freezing someone to death but also launch a barrage of ice attacks which seem to be a combination of Domas other techniques.
  • *Quotes. Trivia. Despite his standing as the third strongest demon in existence, Doma was never favored by Muzan and instead was despised by him, even though the former was fiercely loyal to the cause and worshiped Muzan almost like a god. This was because of Muzan was aware of Domas inability to express fear or true emotion, and it did not sit well with him because he desired to be feared and respected by his underlings.; Due to Kotohas beauty and singing skills, Doma initially had no plans to eat her and came to enjoy her company so much that he intended to keep her alive until she died of old age.; Prior to the confirmation of the casting for Domas voice actor, fans of the anime bombarded social media, recommending to Ufotable that Miyano should be cast to voice Doma. Miyamo himself, after realizing his fanbases excitement and how popular the Demon Slayer anime was at the time, expressed on social media his eagerness to portray the villain. Ufotable would announce to fans that Domas voice actor had been selected during the production of the Mugen Train Arc and when Doma finally debuted in the second season of the anime with Miyano as his VA, fans were exhilarated.; Domas name contains the kanji for child ( dō童) and (ma磨), which can mean polish, grind, or improve. Among them, Domas name includes the word child, which can be said to be a very good match for his personality. It can also be argued that given his tone and his actions, his body has matured into that of an adult, while his mind is still like a childs.; Ironically, his extravagant clothing and overall design may act as a contrast to his complete lack of feelings.; Doma has many similarities to Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, in his tone, personality, and behavior. On the cover of Shinobu, there was a lotus flower symbolizing Doma, and on the cover of Doma, a butterfly symbolizing Shinobu covered one eye of Doma. He also resembles Kanao Tsuyuri in that he is immature at feeling emotions and shares similarities with Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, in that they are both resented by certain groups, have water-based abilities, and have connections to Shinobu.

Cryokinesis: Domas has powerful cryokinesis. He can make ice and frost from his body and can move it around. He can also control it, which lets him use ice in powerful ways. The ice from his Blood Demon Art is deadly. It kills lung cells and makes victims unable to breathe. His ice and frost is extremely cold. It can even make Shinobu’s lungs feel like they’re about to burst. It can also freeze Kanao’s body and surroundings. Doma is very good at his Blood Demon Art. He can make ice constructs like frost lotuses, stalagmites, and clouds of icy air. He can even make ice clones of himself. These clones can do the same things he can do. He can use ice to help him move. He used ice vines to hold himself up while he hugged Shinobu. In combat, Doma uses his cryokinetic abilities with his Tessenjutsu, adding ice and frost to his fan attacks. Doma uses his Blood Demon Art to make frost lotuses and ice shards. Frozen Lotus (Hasuhagōri?) – Doma slashes with a fan, creating ice shards and ice lotuses.

Is Doma good or evil?

Why isn’t he pure evil? He has moral issues. His parents made him a god and started a cult. This made him delusional. He thinks he’s saving women by eating them. Kanae Kocho feels sorry for him because he’s broken inside. However, this is not the main reason. Doma knows he is different and is sadistic and manipulative. He is very bad and hates people. He seems to have liked the idea of feeling things he never felt before. He thought feelings were just a fantasy. But then he felt real feelings for Shinobu in the afterlife. He fell in love with her and called her cute. Doma felt the first real sense of joy in his life. Even after meeting Shinobu in the afterlife, Doma stays evil. He shows no reflection or regrets about his actions. He killed her, so this is a weak prevention. Ironically, both are on the edge of morality. Shinobu is near pure good because of her ruthlessness and lethality. Doma is near pure evil because of moral agency issues and because he fell in love with Shinobu.Doma means “child” in Japanese and “to polish” in the verb ma. Such expenditures could be considered “financial misconduct” under Ohio law, and a portion of the money could be added back to the innocent spouse in the divorce! If money has gone missing or been spent on gambling, the innocent spouse can get it back.
