Tips to make your stay in a Hotel Room more comfortable and enjoyable. I stay in a ton of hotels and I share some of the tricks that …

What to request from a hotel for a honeymoon?

Ask for flowers and a quiet room. If you want a room with a balcony, ask for one. Also, ask for extra towels, bottled water, and a clean room. Some hotels even have allergy-free rooms. Ask for a manager. Don’t assume the person answering the phone will listen to you. “It’s all about expectations,” says Erik Warner, principal of Eagle Point Hotel Partners in New York, NY. If you don’t tell the hotel what you want, you’re responsible for how things turn out. Wash down common surfaces upon arrival. Turn on the hot water in the bathroom and let it steam. Next, use a hot washcloth and soap to scrub anything people often touch, like light switches, toilet handles, phones, door handles, and remote controls. Hand sanitizer is another good option. Use a washcloth to do the same as above. These objects are rarely cleaned and can host germs and bacteria.

What is a honeymoon room in a hotel?

A honeymoon suite is a special room for couples and newlyweds.

It’s a form of niche marketing that started with Niagara Falls in the 1920s. They offered small huts for couples to stay in near the falls as a form of promotion. In The Second Biggest Disappointment: In Honeymooning and Tourism at Niagara Falls, author Karen Dubinsky mentions a campground owner who named his cabins “honeymoon huts.” But there were no mentions of honeymoon suites in any Niagara ads. Dubinsky says these targeted promotions for honeymooners started in the 1930s and 1940s, and increased after the Second World War. In the 1930s, the Toronto-Niagara and New York City-Niagara railway routes were called the Honeymoon Special.

  • In addition to your wonderful tips here are a few hotel tips and tricks of my own. Before I even open my bags I do: – Bed bug checks around the bed perimeter (have found them twice – once in a very popular oceanfront hotel, the other in a 4 star business hotel). – Open every drawer in the room. I’ve found everything from left items from previous guests to bugs munching on food left in a drawer. – Run water in the tub and sink, checking for clogged or slow drains. Finding that out as soon as you’re in the room is much better than while you’re brushing your teeth or during a shower as the water rises up your legs.

  • Thank you for those nice tips. Next time I’ll use Tip #10 Photograph room number. I usually forget my room number ^.^ Another tip to prevent wrinkle on any clothing is to pack between two layers of plastic bag (you can use the one from the dry cleaners) and roll the garment and this will prevent about 90% of the wrinkles. I used to do that on my business trips and last month I even rolled my daughter’s wedding gown and my dress with plastic garment bag to Hawaii and was perfect without any wrinkles.

  • Next time try Laughlin, Nevada, 90 miles south of Vegas, on the Colorado River and about the same distance from Los Angeles. That’s the place to have fun. Jet ski businesses are beginning to buy up all the cheap commercial property straight across the river from Harrah’s casino in Old Bullhead City, AZ. The area that you are showing on the left side (north side) of the park is exactly where City of Bullhead is developing a commercial boat ramp. Some places you can live in while having a great investment at the same time because it’s zoned for commercial but some places are grandfathered in already so they can’t make you move. Plus you are walking distance to the Colorado River and have a great view of the casinos on the opposite side of the river.

  • In some hotels they use your room card to turn on the power, so you can’t charge electronics when you leave the room. However usually the receptacle for the fridge is always on. So i usually bring a power bar when i travel and plug it into that receptacle and i always have power even if i leave the room.

  • Tip #16 – use priceline or any other bidding site to get the best deal by bidding on your room. I use to get 4 star hotel rooms for $60 (reg $200+) from those sites. Tip #17, if you do not travel for a living a stay at a nice hotel can be like a carefree miniature vacation, even in your own city (use bidding tip). When you need a break or to just get away from daily life you’d be surprised how relaxing it can be to unwind at a nice 3 or 4 star hotel, enjoy the bar/lounge, pool, sauna, hot tub etc.

  • Man, I’ve cooked SO much stuff in coffee makers! I travel a lot and eating out gets pretty old. I try to get kitchenette units wherever I go, but that’s not always possible. I’ve cooked anything from Kraft Dinner, hot dogs, ramen and a slew of other things in hotel kettles and it works just fine. Clean them out REALLY well though, or your stuff will have a hint of coffee taste for sure. You can hit up a grocery store and pick up addon things to those items to round it out. Sure, it’s frat-boy food, but when you’re hungry and exhausted from non-stop meetings, it’s great and fast.

  • I can give everyone a heads up having dated a few flight attendants- it is WELL known in the Airline community that COFFEE MAKERS make a convenient alternative to a washing machine!! Many flight attendants put their undergarments & socks in a coffee maker and simply run boiling water thru the machine- the “laundry” then sits for a few minutes to “cleanse” and then they pour off the water into the bathroom sink, and hang their garments over the Air Conditioner on full…

  • awesome list chris, thank you. tip 13 lol, i can see myself putting together a 3 course meal courtesy of the coffee maker! ha ha! jokes aside, another hack is to grab any grab-ables, fruits, muffins etc from the complimentary breakfast and bring back to your room for morning tea / afternoon snack. or better yet, load up a tray with your breakfast, plus anything thats not bolted down, and take back to your room. it saves a little money in expensive cities and you need a snack. also, alot of the hotels i stay at have barista coffee (like espresso coffee, latte, machiato etc), and its made however you like for free, so make sure you always get a coffee to go when you finish your breakfast, it saves a few dollars if you were looking for a coffee upon exiting your hotel for the day.

  • Love this article Chris. Lots of cool Hotel hacks. Love the one about the power strip. You can actually buy a 3 in 1 powerstrip at Dollar Tree. But you forgot one, for those nasty bullet holes in the wall, you may want to pack your bullet proof vests! one for you and OC girl. lol lol ok just kiddin…anyway, awesome tips! Keep the articles coming. 🙂 Scott the BBB guy

  • I have not stayed at a hotel in a long long while with lack of power. All Marriotts like the one you filmed in, have a plethora of plugs and usb plugs right on the desk. The answer to many of those needs is simply stay at a better hotel… :). Casual folks will just suffer for a few nights… for alarm clock just set it on your phone… “hey Siri, set alarm for xxx.”

  • All of the tips are amazing! Never thought of using a coat hanger so I won’t wake up at 6 am, but about the room number: why would you need to picture it if it’s printed on your key/card, when I stayed in hotels they ALWAYS had the room number either printed on the key or written on the piece of paper that came with the key

  • the steam in showers never takes out the wrinkles. I’ve never had an issue with the curtains so I wonder why everyone claims this to be a hack. Just shut the drapes correctly. I can see why some motels might possibly have an issue with it not closing right – it’s beacuse the AC unit is blowing right at the curtains if it’s a really skimpy motel – one that I wouldn’t chose to stay at.

  • I would never go to a hotel with out of power strip it’s amazing how many hotels do not have enough plugs for your shit. I also make sure just stop by a dollar store a lot of cities have them and get a full size shampoo bottle you can use it for everything and you never get enough shampoo in those little teeny bottles that the hotel gives you ….

  • I don’t know; maybe part of it’s the fact that you’re in a hurry. You’ve grown up on instant orange juice. Flip a dial–instant entertainment. Dial seven digits–instant communication. Flash a card–instant money. Shove in a problem–push a few buttons–instant answers. But some problems you can’t get quick answers for, no matter how much you want them.
