What Happens After A Hindu Wedding?

Hindu weddings are preceded by a series of pre-wedding rituals that add charm and significance to the overall celebration. These rituals vary across different couples, but some common happenings include the Kanyadaan ritual, Panigrahana yajna, Haldi ceremony, Rokna or Roka, Mooh Dikhai, Vidaai, wedding reception, Pag Phera, DwarRokai, and Griha Pravash ceremonies.

Vidaai is an event that marks the completion of the wedding as per Hindu rituals. The bride and groom enter the ceremony with tears in their eyes, followed by a lavish dinner and the Haldi (Turmeric) ceremony. The bride and groom play games and untie knots tied to their wrists, symbolizing the importance of having a perfect match.

After the wedding, the bridal party sits down for a lavish dinner, and the groom’s younger brother drives the car to the groom’s home. The bride’s sisters also come with the groom’s family to welcome the newly wedded couple in a ritual.

The first function of every Hindu wedding is Rokna or Roka, which symbolizes that both the bride and groom have decided to be soulmates for life. On the Roka ceremony, a tilak ceremony takes place during which a Hindu sacrament is performed.

After the wedding, the bride says goodbye to her family at the Vidai Ceremony, which usually involves a lot of crying from all sides. The DwarRokai Ceremony follows, followed by the Griha Pravash Ceremony, which is a traditional Indian welcome given to the bride and groom. A Hindu marriage is a sacrament, not a contract, and offerings are made to signify its viability.

What are the rituals of Hindu wedding?

Hindu weddings vary by region and community. The Hindu wedding ceremony is based on the Vedic yajna ritual. There are three key rituals that are almost universal. Kanyadana: The father gives his daughter away. Panigrahana: The couple holds hands near the fire. Saptapadi: The couple takes seven steps before the fire. Each step is a complete circuit of the fire. At each step, promises are made by each to the other. The primary witness of a Hindu marriage is the fire-deity (or the Sacred Fire) Agni, in the presence of family and friends. The ceremony is traditionally conducted in Sanskrit. The bride and groom can also speak their local language. The rituals are in the Gruhya Sutra, written by Apastamba, Baudhayana, and Ashvalayana. The rituals and celebrations before and after the wedding vary by region, preference, and the resources of the couple and their families. They can last from one day to many days. Pre-wedding ceremonies include the engagement, which involves the betrothal and written declaration, and the arrival of the groom’s party at the bride’s residence. The post-wedding ceremonies may include Abhisheka, Anna Prashashana, Aashirvadah, and Grihapravesa – the welcoming of the bride to her new home. The wedding marks the start of the couple’s married life.

Cake-cutting and dessert is a universal sign that the reception is starting to wrap up.; Last song. After dessert, theres still time for a few more songs on the dance floor. This is everyones opportunity to get their final moves in before the last song. The last song will be chosen by the newlyweds and signifies the end of the reception.; End of reception. Everyone hugs and takes last-minute selfies and says their goodbyes. But just because the receptions over doesnt mean the fun has to stop.
