In My Happy Marriage, Kaya and Kouji are betrothed to each other but are separated for the time being. Miyo Saimori, a 19-year-old girl born without supernatural talent, is forced into an existence of servitude by her abusive stepmother. After her mother’s death, her father brought in his lover and other daughter, Kaya. Miyo’s life was filled with trauma, depression, and fear, and she returns home in a trance.
Kaya accuses him of caring more for Miyo than her, but Koji doesn’t dispute this. Kaya verbally torments her sister by saying awful things about Miyo’s life, while Koji insists on leaving her alone. At home, Kiyoka visits Shinichi and Kanoka and makes it clear that Miyo will grieve for her if something happens.
The anime series centers around Miyo Saimori, who lived in an abusive household with her father, Shinichi, and stepmother, Kanoko, who had brutally tortured her since childhood. After her mother’s passing, Miyo is kidnapped by Tatsuishi’s men, and she is sent to a strict household to work as a live-in servant as punishment. Kaya becomes non-existent later on in the story, except when she shows up in Miyo’s dreams.
Despite being betrothed to each other, Kaya and Kouji are still engaged but are separated for the time being. Kaya spies on Miyo and Kiyoka through her shikigami, angry that Miyo becomes happier than she was before. Kaya begins as Miyo’s beauty, social aptitude, and gift, but it has less to do with innate virtues than with Kaya’s abilities.

What happens after Miyo is kidnapped in My Happy marriage?
Not long after their marriage, Kanoko gave birth to Kaya who had inherited Kanokos extraordinary beauty and was a quick learner. Not only that, at the age of three, she already displayed the signature ability of the Gifted, the Spirit-Sight. Her husband praised Kanoko for giving him a Gifted daughter, something which made her glow with pride. Everyone in the house, even the servants, started worshipping Kaya and devoted less attention to Miyo. Despite the fact that her husband had married Sumi solely to pass their supernatural powers on to their heirs, and yet it had been her daughter Kaya, not Miyo, who been born with the Gift. In hindsight, Shinichi had nothing to gain to breaking up with Kanoko to marry Sumi. This discovery only further stoked Kanokos hatred of her stepdaughter.1One day, when Miyo was at elementary school, Kanoko decided to throw away the precious memories Miyo had of her mother: kimonos, sashes, accessories and make-up. When the girl headed over to Kanokos chamber to ask if she knew anything about the strange disappearance of her belongings, she accused the girl of calling her a thief in a rage before punishing her by shutting her in a storehouse at the back of the mansion. While Miyo is trapped in there, she dismissed Hana Kanao, a servant who cared of Miyo and Kanoko immediately expelled her from the mansion for defending Miyo. Finally, she deletes to Miyo, her status in the household and Miyo is treated like a servant.1 *In both the novels and manga, Kanoko also had extremely high expectations for Kaya and verbally mistreated her whenever she committed a mistake. She would often tell her to not be useless like Miyo. That made envy and hatred of Kaya towards her step-sister. *Plot. In Chapter 16, after Miyo Saimori was abducted where she was tied up and put in a shed, Kanoko went as far to beat and insult her before choking her around her neck, only to be saved by Kiyoka Kudou. Then, a female servant hurriedly announced that there is a fire and a frantic Kanoko immediately runs out of the shed to see that the entire Saimori residence covered in flames, which completely horrified Kanoko before she furiously blames Kiyoka for their downfall (this wasnt seen in Episode 6 of the anime as it only shows Kanoko walking out of the shed before she drops her to knees and cries in sorrow upon seeing the Saimori residence burning to the ground as karma for her cruel actions, as she doesnt know that it was Minoru Tatsuishi who did this when he tried to stop Kiyoka while he protects himself and use his pyrokinesis to burn the mansion, only to get beaten by Kiyokas power, ending his schemes.).
Is Miyo in love with Kiyoka?
Plot. Volume 1. When Kiyoka first meets Miyo, he is unfriendly because he doesn’t trust women. But he is surprised by Miyo’s unusual meekness. He learns about her tragic past through investigations. Miyo is weak and timid but always considerate. She melts Kiyoka’s indifference. His feelings change from indifference to pity and then to love. He takes her to a high-end kimono shop, Suzushimas. He orders a cherry pink kimono for Miyo. Kiyoka goes to the Saimori estate to propose marriage, but won’t pay the bride price unless everyone in the Saimori family apologizes to Miyo. He finds Hana, a former servant of the Saimoris who was close to Miyo, and brings her to the Imperial Capital to boost Miyo’s confidence. Kiyoka proposes marriage to Miyo, who is moved. The cherry pink kimono he ordered arrives. Miyo leaves the amulet given to her by Kiyoka behind when she goes outside. Kouji Tatsuishi rushes to Kiyoka’s office at the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit station. He tells him that Miyo is being held captive at the Saimori estate. Kiyoka goes to the scene quickly and easily overpowers Miyos’s father and Minoru Tatsuishi. The fire spreads to the whole estate. He finds Miyo in a storage room at the back, being abused by her stepmother and half-sister. Kiyoka saves her and says no to Kayas plan to marry into the Kudou family in place of Miyo.
Do Miyo and Kudo end up together?
The third volume of My Happy Marriage is the thickest so far, at 224 pages. It concludes the story of Miyo vs. her abusive family and starts her life with Kudo. For light novel readers, this means that Volume 3 of the manga includes the end of Volume 1 and the start of Volume 2 of the light novels. This is interesting for manga readers because the ending of the first story arc seems to show that we’re moving away from the Cinderella-inspired part of the story. We’ll see what happens after “happily ever after.” We’ll also see more of the supernatural side of the story that has been mentioned but not focused on. You can decide whether to continue from this point. Even though many main characters have been written out by the halfway point, there is more story to tell. I’ll avoid spoilers by examining the characters instead. We haven’t seen much of Kudo’s background or character. We know he’s a high-authority gifted user from dialogue, but we’ve never seen it. In Volume 3, we finally see why people call him a “demon” and one of the most powerful users in their world. It’s satisfying to see him stand up to the people who made Miyos’ life hell. I also liked how Kudos deals with Miyos’s kidnappers in the first arc. He has the power to go into their home and find Miyos, but he doesn’t. He asks the family why they’re doing what they’re doing, giving them a chance to stop. He only uses his power to save Miyo when they attack him. Kudo is more interesting than your typical stoic prince. Next, we have Miyo. She has been through a lot. The first few chapters of this book put her back into the hands of her sister and stepmother. But here, even though she’s physically weak, she’s mentally strong. She’s changed. She has a reason to fight. When the family asks her to marry Kudo instead of Kaya, Miyo says no for the first time. Even though her family is far away, she still has trouble moving on. She has trouble sleeping and still has nightmares about the abuse she suffered. This affects her daily life. As others have said, I’m glad the author didn’t make her trauma go away just because her family did. She needs to work through her self-doubt and hatred. She also needs to find her own worth outside of Kudo.
What happened to Maya’s mother in my happy marriage?
Her husband thought Miyo was Giftless because she couldn’t demonstrate the Spirit-Sight ability. He felt a little bitterness when his child didn’t inherit from a Gift. To Sumi’s sadness, he turned his back on Miyo. Sumi begged him not to reject their daughter. When Miyo was two, Sumi died from illness. Her husband remarried with his mistress. Gifts. Telepathy: This is one of the special powers of the Usuba family. Sumi can affect other people’s minds. She could express thoughts and feelings without words or actions. Her children would also be born with the gift of dream-sight. Sealing: Sumi can put a seal on someone to block their gift. Sumi sealed her daughters’ Dream-Sight to prevent its use and hide it from others.
Who does Miyo end up with?
Miyo Saimori has finally found her place in the world: a place where she can feel safe, warm, and loved, and that is by Kiyoka Kudos side as his fiancée. Having grown up with an abusive family, Miyo never thought she could find ‘her place, and she thought that when they tossed her out to be Kudos potential bride, she would never hear from them again. She could not have been more wrong. Not only are they not done with her but they are angry that she dares to be happy with her betrothed being of a much higher rank and status than her half-sisters fiancé. Now kidnapped, tied by the wrists, and thrown into the storeroom of her old home, she waits for her sisters and stepmothers judgement. Meanwhile, Kudo has heard of Miyo capture, and is determined to get her back, by words or by force…The third volume of My Happy Marriage is the thickest volume so far, at 224 pages, and its because not only does this book conclude the current story arc of Miyo vs. her abusive family, but it also starts the next chapter in her life: being officially engaged to Kudo and starting their life together. For light novel readers out there, this effectively means that Volume 3 of the manga includes the conclusion of Volume 1 and beginning of Volume 2 of the light novels. This is interesting for manga readers, due to the ending of the first story arc seemingly hinting that were moving away from the ‘Cinderella-inspired part of this story, and seeing what happens after ‘happily ever after per se, or more concretely, moving into the supernatural side of this story that has been peppered across the story so far but has not been the focus. Whether you want to continue from this point will be up to you, but for what its worth, it seems that even though a lot of main side characters, so far, are written out by the halfway point, there is a lot more story to tell. *Obviously giving away the said story means going too much into spoilers, so Ill examine the characters instead and see how theyve developed since the beginning. Lets first look at Kudo; so far, we havent had a deep dive into his background or character, aside from a few panels here and there. We know his work and his position as a high authority gifted user from dialogue but this has never actually been shown. In Volume 3 however, we finally get to SEE why people call him a ‘demon and one of the most powerful users in their world, and its very satisfying to see him push back against the despicable people who made Miyos life a living hell. Another thing about Kudos character that I really liked in the conclusion of the first arc, is how he deals with the family members of Miyos whove kidnapped her. He has the power and status to just charge into their home and tear it apart until hes found his beloved, but he doesnt. He makes the conscious decision to ask the family WHY theyre doing what theyre doing, giving them a chance to repent and stand down, to try and avoid a confrontation. Its only when they lash out and try to attack him (with magic or words) that he lets his power out to rescue Miyo. Its that layer that makes Kudo more interesting than just your typical ‘stoic prince archetype.

Miyo notices Fuyu looking at her during breakfast. When she leaves the dining room, Kiyoka pulls her towards him and whispers not to forget about the night before. Miyo finishes packing when Nae and Fuyu Kudou come into her room. Fuyu says he’s glad Miyo is leaving, criticizing her. However, she also says that Miyo’s willingness to act on Kiyoka’s behalf might make her worthy of him. She gives Miyo a white lace ribbon, calling it a perfect match, which Nae later explains is proof that her mistress acknowledges her. Fuyu is actually not as mean as she may seem. Miyo realizes Fuyu and Kiyoka are similar because they’re both bad at expressing themselves.

Is arata bad in happy marriage?
Personality. Arata seems kind, but he’s actually cold and impersonal. He doesn’t care much about his assigned subject of protection. He cared about her because she had the Gift, which was important to the Usuba family. He sees the Usuba estate as a reflection of himself. The facade is well kept, but there is no worth at all. He’s a good guy on the outside, but on the inside, he’s hollow. He feels empty without a reason to live. He wants to become a proper man of society, but he doesn’t want people to know he’s lacking. He keeps up his external self to hide this. He’s crafted a personality, first impression, and appearance to be liked by others. He’s just faking it. He thinks this makes him seem important. He smiles a lot, but it’s not a mean smile. It’s a kind smile. People like him because of it. Even when he’s rude, it’s hard to tell if he’s just being mean, testing people, or if there’s something deeper going on. His smile hides everything. The more impressive he becomes, the emptier he feels. Arata is the son of the Usuba family’s current leader and heir to the family.5. Arata lived with his paternal grandfather Yoshirou Usuba at the Usuba estate to learn how to use his Gift. The family started to decline shortly after he arrived. Kaya wouldn’t have what she really wants no matter how it goes down. Were they to switch engagements and she ends up with Kudo, he would still never accept her. She’d just be one more in a line of either runaway or rejected fiances because he’d never care for a self-centered girl like her. Meanwhile, Miyo would be back with her first love and likely find happiness there too. Kaya is merely the definition of “I only want to take away what my sister has” due to the animosity taught to her by her mother. It’s an extension of the grudge that she has against Miyo’s mother.
Oh no. Daddy is telling you no like EVERY other parent in this world…this is what happens when you DON’T teach your children the meaning of the word no. They grow up to spoiled brats who are in a false illusion of the world revolves around me. I should say I feel bad, but I was brought up by honesty so I not gonna lie. Kaya, GET OVER IT.
0:22 “You should forget about Miyo” Even though the dad neglected Miyo just because she ‘doesn’t have’ supernatural powers and did give a kimono (dark turquoise one that Miyo wear from the first ep) to meet Kiyoka but the dad has a point demanding Kaya not to bother Miyo’s relationship with Kiyoka (tho he did help Mr. Tasuishi bring Miyo back just because is an Usuba things)
Jealousy is totally normal and it’s okay to not like every however i don’t think that’s the problem despite the fact that she was awful to Miyo the parents are at fault here. The parents forced her to play perfect and accepted Kaya beacouse of her magical ability and not for who she truly is. They never cared about her and made up lies about Miyo to make it seem like she was trying to steal away Kaya’s dream and that she would be against her even if this isn’t true at all. So all Kaya wanted was to be loved and accepted for who she truly is and spend time with her sister but her parents forced her to stay away from Miyo and did they’re best to ruin they’re relationship. So the least Kaya could have done is talk to Miyo and ask if there is something she could do to change for the better and move on to a better future. Then they could stand up to they’re family and move in together both getting the happy ending they deserve however Kaya let her jealousy and hatred take the best of her and turned out to be the meanest sister ever seeing her become the villain that she is. This is a shame beacouse the stepmother is already awful and the girls deserved they’re happy ending also there were moments when she could have done the right thing but chose to hurt Miyo this isn’t the way we treat anyone close to our life. Good thing Miyo stood up to her sister and went for her dream she deserves to be happy and live her life just like everyone else she’s done nothing but taken care of everyone and helped her family despite everyone so at least leave her alone then❤❤❤
