What Is A Decent Budget For A Wedding?

The Knot 2023 Real Weddings Study found that the average cost of a wedding is $35,000, excluding the engagement ring. However, the average cost in the U.S. is closer to $30,000, which is a significant discrepancy. The cost can vary greatly based on location, selection of ceremony and reception elements, favors, and gifts.

When planning a wedding budget, couples should consider the following factors: the number of guests, number of vendors hired, style, and location. A good rule of thumb is to spend no more than 40% of the overall budget on venue, rental fees, food, and alcohol, combined.

A reasonable wedding budget is going to differ for everyone, but averages don’t tell the whole story. To reduce costs, couples should invite fewer guests and allocate 40% of their budget towards venue and catering ($7,600), 10% for furniture rental ($1,900), 10% for photography ($1,900), and 10% for flowers and favors.

Using tools like The Knot’s personalized wedding budget tool can help track the breakdown of wedding costs and stay on track with a free budget checklist, calculator, and more. It is essential to consider the overall scope of the celebration, such as the number of guests, vendors hired, style, and location of the wedding.

In summary, creating a wedding budget is crucial for a successful event, but it is important to consider factors such as guest list, venue, catering, and venue fees. By following these tips and budgeting strategies, couples can create a budget that fits their unique needs and preferences.

  • re cake. We are having 3 large chocolate cakes from the supermarket on 3 different height cakes stands with some fresh flower heads and fruit on the top… Large supermarket chains sell large “celebration” chocolate cakes that serve up to 20 people(£10 per cake) per cake – we are having about 50 guests, so they will do just fine…They are gorgeous, too!

  • I would have loved to hire my wedding dress, but sadly, in Germany that’s nearly as expensive as buying a new one. Also, hiring a dress usually means that only minor alterations are possible (I’m 5′ and also need other major alterations), so hiring is completely off the table for me. I will look for a secondhand or sample dress instead 🙂 (and hoping that I can alter my dress into a normal dress afterwards, because selling a dress altered for a very short person is quite impossible if you are living in the region with the world’s tallest people 😀 I liked the other hacks, though 🙂
