My married friends, family, neighbors and employees have agreed to make themselves legally and socially responsible for each other in good times and bad. That means that in general I spend less time picking up after them, bailing them out, and lending them money than I do on single people. That benefits me, their families, their neighbors and society in general and it’s true whether the couples are gay or straight. I don’t think it’s a fairytale at all.
It is not a matter of personal belief. You can believe that 1 + 1 = 3, but it doesn’t make it so. You can read studies that delved deep into this question. There is an answer, and it was found: sexual orientation is decided biologically. Even if it were true that it was learned, they are now gay. A man who loves another man, will love him despite what other people want, or even what he himself wants.
“and you cant change my view.” –Why would anyone want to change your view? I do not care a bit what you believe. But I care very much if you try to force others to obey your beliefs. So… do you agree with your non-Muslim neighbors should have the right to drink alcohol? To worship Hindu gods? To marry someone of the same sex? If marriage was a Christian practice, why are Muslims allowed to be married? Or Budhists? They have been practicing marriage long before Christianity, and marriage existed long before Christianity. Everyone deserves equal rights, and I agree with EricaKane there needs to be a seperation between the church and the government.

I’ve always felt like there should be no issue in allowing to people (may they be gay or straight) into a legal union. We promote freedom in this country yet do do the opposite by denying people there rights because of some ideological belief. In the matter of religous cermony, i believe it goes against there beliefs and we should respect that. I think the more we seperate church and state the better off we will be.

If you want to talk about multiple spouses, then go find a article about that. This one’s about same-sex marriage rights. I find that when the opponents of equality start trying to change the subject to other things like marrying sisters or toasters or whatever, it usually means they have no honest reasons for wanting to remove civil rights from their gay neighbors.

If thats his personal website, then i dont really see the difference between him (or more likely a staffer) moderating it then many other websites do. He can also argue that it is logically incorrect but he knows that you can argue otherwise so he struggles deciding what position he is 100% behind. @slytherinspy1960 We should have civil unions for both and make marriage only have religious connotations that do not have any effect on you (Though you’d be likely to get a civil union with who you just married). That way religious people are happy that they have a monopoly on their practice and everyone else is happy that religious people don’t have to bother them. Then we can start legalizing other things that make no sense to be illegal, such as polygamy.

With all the horrible problems in this world, people would rather focus on controlling what others do in the privacy of their own bedrooms. Actually, it’s more probable that sexual orientation is a developed trait through social interaction or lack of social interaction between the sexes. Just so we’re clear I support sexual orientation rights be it with same sex, opposite, both sexes, or whatever. I don’t believe genetics define a person, their social construct are learned behaviors and not dependent on those of genetic traits.

Congress is, again, ultimately in charge of what passes and what doesn’t. That’s why our country is so fucked. Whomever is in office, the opposing party takes up most of Congress thus making it difficult to see eye to eye. Obama has already legalised same-sex marriage in eight states, I believe, and it can’t be done all at once.

After all, since the Republicans control a good portion of Congress, Obama has to be as fair as possible on the gay issues so that he can get his other bills passed. Question: What are people making this into a RIGHTS issue? Everyone in North Carolina has the SAME right to marry… No one’s rights are being impeded on. If you want to marry, you must marry someone of the opposite sex. If you don’t want to, that’s ok too. In the same way, I couldn’t marry my dog or my cousin but my it has nothing to do with my rights.

@baddave62 I think his struggle comes from the fact that he personally strongly supports gay marriage because there is no sound argument against it, but it is political suicide to come out and support it. We need to change the country’s idea of gay marriage as a whole because that is the only way a politician that supports the issue can feel safe voting for it. Please do not be so arrogant as to presupe to speak for all “people of faith”. Many churches and synagogues in this country, including mine, welcome marriage for same-sex couples. A marriage in a church down the street does not affect me one bit and a marriage in my church does not affect you.\r There are hundreds of different denominations in this country because people have different religious beliefs. Who are you to say we should all have to obey yours?

Even they have said that the struggle that gays face is similar to the persecution that black people have endured. Gays may not be a race, color, or ethnicity.
