What Is A Surprise Wedding?

A surprise wedding is a unique and memorable event that is kept secret from most guests until the actual day of the event. The couple plans a celebration, such as an engagement party, holiday party, or summer picnic, which serves as a cover for the important occasion. To ensure that friends and family attend, the couple invites them to an event that guarantees their attendance.

Surprise weddings are becoming popular with couples who want a relaxed wedding on a small budget. Careful planning and preparation are essential for a successful surprise wedding. Couples should weigh the pros and cons of a surprise wedding before planning and pulling off an unforgettable surprise wedding ceremony.

The guest list for a surprise wedding is often tricky, so it is recommended to keep the list to close family and friends who will definitely be invited to the wedding. Sharing your plans with only those who absolutely have to know about the wedding, like your event vendors and the officiant, is crucial.

Budgeting is an important part of a surprise wedding reception to ensure that you do not overspend your finances and use your money wisely. Consider factors such as venue costs, decor, food, drinks, entertainment, and more.

A surprise wedding offers the feel of a spontaneous elopement but still involves lots of planning and organization. It can be a good compromise between eloping and a big wedding, as it allows the couple to personalize their wedding for an intimate group by writing individual notes to each guest.

In summary, a surprise wedding is a unique and memorable event that requires careful planning and preparation. It offers a unique and memorable experience for couples looking to avoid the stress and pressure of traditional weddings.

How do I invite people to a surprise wedding?

Make creative invitations. Send formal wedding-like invitations to make guests take notice. Include a dress code and start time. Use words like “prompt” or “sharp” to help guests arrive on time.

Encourage them. Even the most well-meaning family and friends will only cross oceans for major milestones. If you’re planning a surprise wedding, ask people to come. Some people might wait for the wedding. Include a note in your invitations for out-of-town guests saying you’d love them to attend. Or say the wedding will be small, so the party is the real celebration. Tell a few white lies now.

Wardrobe change: Change into your wedding gown when all your guests arrive. “The bride should decide,” says wedding planner Mindy Weiss. “But it’s fun to wait to wear the wedding dress.” You’ll surprise everyone at once, not over time. This makes for great photos and memories.

  • Years ago I watched the long version of this wedding. My first thought was wow, she doesn’t have to go thru any of those planning ordeals at all, that is one lucky girl! But to find out that the Ryan Leak is the author of the book unoffendable and the man in this article is so God. I am struggling with offense and your husbands book is really helping me. Thank you! What an amazing story.

  • God is so good to us!! He provides and demonstrates His Love for us, His children, in oh so many ways! So thankful and BLESSED to view this! I’m so thankful Jesus brought Ryan to come preach at my church, in Littleton, Colorado at Red Rocks Church because God knew I and my husband would be encouraged in our own marriage to see this! It also blessed me so much to see Ryan’s dad enjoy your wedding, knowing he is now in Heaven. When Ryan preached at our church the first time I heard him, he told the story of his dad and mother at Walmart…and it made me miss my own Daddy who is now in Heaven also. So it made me so happy to know his parents got to witness this amazing day for his son and daughter in love! Again, I say, GOD IS SO GOOD TO US!! Thanks so much for sharing this with the world Ryan and Amanda Leak!! ❤️😍🙌🙏

  • I use to attend Covenant church carrollton in Texas where this man preached. I always remember his father passed away a few years ago and he preached a beautiful message after and talked about how he wishes he could do one more “Walmart ” trip with him. It’s sweet to see his father here in the front row of the wedding. Beautiful family! God bless 💗
