What Is Conditional Love In A Marriage?

Conditional love is a type of love that depends on specific actions or behaviors, such as money, treatment, or appearance. It can be withdrawn if these conditions are not met, and it can lead to feelings of insecurity. Unconditional love, on the other hand, is based on genuine care, respect, and acceptance of another person, regardless of their flaws. It is a noble relationship goal, but it can affect one’s sense of self and ability to form relationships into adulthood.

Conditional love is often associated with unrealistic expectations and unfair choices, while unconditional love is given without any expectations or conditions. It is not healthy or sustainable, as true love is unconditional and based on genuine care, respect, and acceptance of the other person.

Understanding the difference between conditional and unconditional love is crucial for maintaining a healthy and stable relationship. Myth 1: Conditional love is selfish is false. It is a legitimate way to ensure mutual respect in relationships and protect oneself from being judged by others.

Unconditional love is free, without any conditions or requirements to meet, and it is preferred over conditional love. It is a commitment that can be met through various circumstances or situations.

In conclusion, conditional love is a type of love that depends on specific actions or behaviors, while unconditional love is based on genuine care, respect, and acceptance. Understanding the differences between conditional and unconditional love can help individuals navigate their relationship more effectively and maintain a healthy relationship.

What is the conditional love theory?

Conditional love is love that depends on the person you love meeting certain conditions. People believe that all forms of love are conditional. While unconditional love is ideal, it is not possible to achieve completely. Many relationships require conditions to meet the needs of the lover and recipient. This doesn’t mean that conditional love is selfish or reward seeking. It means that love is achieved when the lover’s conditions are met. If a lover feels love for another, it is likely due to the other person matching the lover’s ideals. This kind of love is created by the values the lover puts in place. It is possible for conditional and unconditional love to coexist. Conditions help lovers decide if a relationship is worth the risks. Unconditional love reduces risk and encourages appreciation.

  • I was not good at math. I was not good at reading. I was having tough times during middle school. My parents nagged at me everyday with the most awful words I could ever imagine. I had to ask for my aunt to let me stay with her for 4 or 5 months because going back home for me is like going back to battle field. I had to be “armed” with some untrue wonderful factors that I do not even have. But I decide to forgive them. Simply because I want to forgive myself. Not because I want to rebuild the relationship with them. Once the trust is gone, it is extremely hard to get it back. So for someone who reads this comment, try your best self to love your family unconditionally. No one is perfect. Just the fact that they are there and spending time with you is a blessing.

  • I feel that unconditional love actually opens the door for abusers to abuse and take full advantage. “It’s OK that you treat me that way I love you unconditionally ” The examples used in this article, yea, he lost a few jobs and I stood with him in full support while he figured it out.. I also am having to draw hard lines on how I want to be treated. With love, honesty, kindness and respect Those are conditions –

  • Example situation : My partner said she loved me. I asked unconditionally? She said yes. So i said that i had slept with her sister. We are not together anymore. So was my partner being dishonest by saying she loved me unconditionally? Show me some one that loves unconditionally and i will show you a liar. Show me someone that expects unconditional love. I will show you some one that will take more than they give. A dog is basic enough to love it’s owner because it’s all it knows.Treat a cat the same it will jump the fence and find food and warmth elsewhere. So the only person to love unconditionally would have to know of nothing else and trapped. And that’s effectively abuse. If some one expects unconditional love. Be aware and get away.

  • Unconditional love may help spawn narcissism . It breeds a type of inauthenticity too. Which churches today have served to create . Why?. Because of how many people have been led to follow something of whats impossible . This is still not to say we shouldn’t try to extend our love to include people who wont necessarily reciprocate 100%

  • Conditional love is grossly misunderstood in this article. God doesn’t love you unconditionally. There are a specific set of rules you must follow to reap the reward of God’s everlasting love, ie. the 10 commandments. Romantic love and marriage comes with a set of conditions. Cheating, physical/psychological abuse, and laziness are not and should not be tolerated in a loving relationship – ever. There is nothing wrong with loving someone conditionally. The illusion that someone should love you despite your poor choices in life has warped the minds of many young men and women. If your wife decides to take up stripping as a profession, or your husband decides to quit his job and forfeit his role as provider, one should not have to settle for that kind of behavior. Romantic love is and forever will be conditional. Period.

  • Love is 0 and takes 2 or more. Only everything instinct love reconnect heart to mother earth core planet she is alive. Next connect infinite omni divinity ABBA love and experience it in perfect nothing. There is no love in self or 1. Its not emtions of atachments affection or pleasures. It not what you can we do for each other. Nothing online is love. Pure propaganda programming ignorance of narsisest behavior. Peace in stillness zin nirvana let go let in flow be in awe.

  • I was aware of conditional love as an infant, I was the best child I never cried. I loved to be needed when really I needed to be loved, but accepted admiration. I’m such a perfectionist that I look at constructive criticism as an attack and will become vicious protecting my ego, besides no one has to point out my mitakes I’m aware of them.

  • I come from a toxic and psychologically abusive relationship with my father who is a narcissist, I was homeless with him for a very long time, I escaped that and went to go be with extended family that found me on the internet, but what seemed like a gift from god just turned into something that completely hurt me, I was only with them for 3 months because of how difficult they were to live with, and how conditional their love and regard was towards me, it’s just bloody unfair to me how my brother got to have what they called a “privileged life” while I was stuck with my narcissistic father and had a really shitty upbringing that no kid should ever have to have gone through. It’s bullshit. Yet, people on the internet and even one of my friends invalidates me and tells me “why should they love you” and “oh it’s because they raised your brother and not you why do you think you deserve everything your brother always gotten.” …absolutely ridiculous

  • My boyfriend had many conditions and he said if i agree with all these conditions i will be getting better and will be get good future…but i really think this not i wanted and i had breakup with him last night😢 i luved him unconditionally but all he is doing was finding fault with my dressing my childish behaviour and each and everything…😊 I don’t know if this decision i taken is correct 😞 … Can anyone give advice?

  • Isn’t all love inherently conditional, though? In its most realistic and healthy state, isn’t love contingent upon the lack of abuse, and the reciprocation of that love? I don’t know if humans could ever share an unconditional love with one another. It must be a fantasy. That being said, this article has illuminated a lot for me, thank you so much 🙏

  • Conditional love is not a good title for this article. Transactional relationship is a better title. Conditional love can be good, I mean there are certain criteria/conditions that makes a person attractive, so that person is attractive based in the criteria conditions met (e.g. personality, chemistry, looks, values, etc…). Transactional is tot for tat and that’s also when the covert contracts come into play too.
