What Is Real Love In A Marriage?

True love is a profound emotion that involves both partners recognizing and valuing each other’s individuality, opinions, and feelings. It is a combination of attraction and closeness, and can be experienced by friends, parents, sibling, or even pets. Love marriage is a union where individuals choose their life partners based on affection and mutual understanding, deviating from traditional arranged marriages. Pros include emotional compatibility and personal choice, while cons may involve familial conflicts and societal pressures. Balancing individual desires with cultural expectations is essential for a marriage to survive.

Real love is not just a feeling; it is a behavior in which the welfare of another person is the primary intention and goal. It brings fulfillment, peace, and a profound sense of connection. It allows couples to overcome obstacles together and grow stronger as a team. As a supportive partner, it is crucial to be there for your spouse, especially when they may be feeling disconnected or the relationship is going through a difficult time.

Three phases of falling out of love are identified: disillusionment, disillusionment, and disconnection. In true love, your partner is clearly differentiated from you, and it is an altered state of consciousness to know that you live with another person. By following the simple principles found in Real Love in Marriage, you can transform your marriage into a fulfilling and happy one.

Signs of true love in a relationship include security, respect, and understanding. A key component of true love is an unwavering sense of mutually feeling respected and valued. Infatuation often leads to sacrificing your values and needs for a relationship, but genuine love involves mutual respect and support.

What is a husbands responsibility to his wife?

A man’s responsibilities to his wife are simple. Love her, take care of her, and treat her like she’s right by your side. A good relationship. She is a queen, a friend, a wife, a lover, and hopefully a mom.

What does real love in marriage feel like?

What is true love like? People often say you’ll just know when it comes to love. There’s a good reason for this. Love is an unspeakable feeling. “It’s about your words being important to your partner,” says Consul. This feeling shows emotional connection, trust, and vulnerability. True love is like a hug: it’s calm and reassuring. It doesn’t leave you confused or unsure. It feels more real than what many of us have experienced.

But things can get tricky. You can love someone deeply and still want to end the relationship. This may seem contradictory, but it’s not. “True love doesn’t conquer all. It coexists with external circumstances that may end the relationship, but doesn’t end the love,” says Consul. Similarly, she says that you can love someone but not be able to show it because you haven’t done important internal work. This is when we end up being emotionally unavailable. In a good relationship, both people work to make sure they are available for each other.

What makes a good husband wife?

A satisfying marriage/relationship depends on love, commitment, trust, time, attention, good communication, partnership, tolerance, patience, openness, honesty, respect, sharing, consideration, generosity, willingness to compromise, constructive management of disagreements/arguments, willingness to see another’s viewpoint, ability and willingness to forgive/apologize, and fun. The list is simple, but it can be hard for couples to stay happy when things go wrong. There are many ways to strengthen a marriage or relationship. Sometimes couples wonder what’s wrong with their relationship. The following four areas of closeness can help couples assess their relationship and improve it when difficulties arise.

Does true love mean letting go?

As Shashoua says, letting go means giving freedom to something we love and hoping they choose to be in the relationship. Real love means wanting the best for the person you love, even if you’re not the one who gets to give it to them. Kimberly Vered Shashoua, LCSW. If you keep someone from leaving, your relationship is unhealthy. Why it’s hard to let go. Not easy. Love and lust help us survive, reproduce, and be happy. So, it makes sense that we want love and happiness to last.

What is the true meaning of love in a marriage?

In couples groups and private sessions, we teach partners a new way to act with love using the Imago dialogue. In the dialogue, each partner talks while the other listens. The listener then confirms what they heard and says they understand. The Imago dialogue is about love as a choice. It’s to take care of each other. Loving our spouse helps them grow. As they grow, they are more likely to love us back. Love is action. Loving our spouse brings growth, intimacy, and joy. What is true love from a man?

A man in love respects your boundaries. He knows it takes time to build a lasting relationship and is willing to wait until the right moment to be intimate. A man in love wants to introduce you to his family and friends. He tells his family and friends about you. He’s proud to have you in his life. The last sign of true love from a guy is that he talks about his future with you and what you could do together. He buys plane tickets in advance for the future.

How should a wife treat his husband?

2. Respect your husband. In Ephesians 5:33, Paul says, “The wife must respect her husband.” When you respect your husband, you honor him. It means valuing his opinion, admiring his wisdom and character, appreciating his commitment to you, and considering his needs and values. Our husbands have many needs. The myth of the invincible macho man is false. One day Dennis gave me a list of what he thought were some of the main needs most men have.

Men need to feel like men; to be listened to; to have a companion; to feel needed. Meeting these needs is what respecting your husband is all about. I try to encourage Dennis by being his number one fan. Every husband wants his wife to support him. A husband needs a wife who believes in him and supports him.

  • Real love starts after the honeymoon phase is over. I’ve found that real love can be seen after both of you break each other’s heart. If both of you come back after your heart was broken, then you’ll know it is meant to be. Everyone always thinks they’ll never make mistakes, until the day they do. No one is perfect.

  • “When we examine love in a break up I believe one of three things has happened. It’s either one: There was no love at the beginning of the relationship to start with. Two; there was something bigger than the love that broke the relationship, or three. The love declined.” SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK

  • Love is somewhat relative. Perhaps the most important thing in love is knowing what it means to you and finding someone that fits into that definition. Perhaps the biggest problem in love is that experience may be required before we really know what we want. This may mean broken hearts are inevitable. Knowing that should help, however.

  • If they truly love you, you will know it and you will feel it! If they have the desire to make you happy and the ability to do so, putting your happiness above their own, then that is true love. If they are kind and compassionate, respect you and take the time to listen and try to understand you, that is true love. Being with you for who you are and not for your money, looks, power or status is true love. People who marry only for money, looks, power or status and not love have about as much chance of staying together as me going to Scotland and seeing the Loch Ness monster!!😆

  • I love his story about his college days “I was like Hugh Hefner in my own home, with all the bunnys” I couldn’t stop laughing. Can’t believe the audience didn’t laugh at his jokes. I’m so happy he was able to make the sacrifice for love and that he could see that when he was young. I feared it would be a story about how he missed his chance but that’s a beautiful story, so inspirational.

  • 1. This man is dropping so much knowledge and truths. 2. He looks like he should be on the front page of a magazine. So handsome. 3. His jokes are funny and he’s interactive. 4. That audience is filled with cheaters, there’s no way no one laughed, sang the Mary song, or clapped when he spoke about getting married and having babies. 5. The audience wasn’t ready for this message

  • God makes no mistakes. I stumbled on this by perusal something else totally unrelated and it confirms that it is time for me to “try love again” in recognition that it was people, not love, that hurt me and I should not let those flawed individuals keep me in bondage any longer. Thank you Dr. Smalls.

  • My biggest prayer is to be TRUELY In love with someone that loves me back and ever more. I want to experience the kind of love that I wake up everyday knowing this is God’s doing, I need the kind of love that we sacrifice to be better for each other, the kind of love that no matter the arguments or misunderstanding, we are going yo work on it for our good. The kind of love that there is trust, respect, and genuine forgiveness. I hope for a love that never does, love that inspires others to believe in true love… I’m 26, and I still believe that one day this will be my reality by the grace of God 😊💯🙏

  • 6 years of relationship .. just to realise I was just another grl in his life .. just to know what a toxic relationship really looks like up close.. just to understand the value of my self respect ( which was lost tbh ).. just to learn to trust my guts.. just to get hurt in the end.. just to get over the idea of keeping him happy in bed would keep him loyal and faithful.. just to lose my self in the process of “so called” love.. Just loving the idea of being loved. Just giving too much of myself to someone who didn’t gv even a handful of him.. Just to get to know how ppl can lie looking straight into ur eyes and not even feel ashamed.. Just to realise how much someone could manipulate you and ur mental state.. Just to get pregnant unplanned and losing the baby, getting stressed and struggling to move on with the fact .. It’s all f’ing sick to look back at all of that..

  • One thing I learned from church about love is this. “love is the unconditional choice to sacrificially serve the other person” Love is an action, not a feeling. Love is a choice, not an emotion. Love is choosing to put the other person first, everyday, no matter how you feel. When both people do this, it leads to an amazing lasting relationship. Love is not the warm and fuzzy feelings that eventually fade and lead to a 50%+ divorce rate.

  • When you are truly in love, you can interact with other people but you don’t see them as someone you have to keep interested in you and you don’t lead them on. You just know in your heart whom you truly desire, no matter what! it just stays the same. People says spark disappears after some months, true love has the power to hold on the person and lift them up in their worst times…as he already explained love has to be greater than any other reasons to cheat, leave or etc.

  • In my opinion true love is everything when we die we don’t take money or anything with us but the memories and love we had with the person next to us that was there for u for many years I think that’s beautiful, if two people love each other breaking up isn’t an option they’ll figure it out together and work thru almost everything but if u cheat that was never love u weren’t satisfied u have to keep looking for that one person that makes u see life different

  • Love and marriage are different. Love is an incredible fulfilling emotion while marriage is a step ahead, when love culminates into marriage, then starts the journey of responsibility. Lovers have no responsibility, but married couples have. Don’t take your spouse for granted. He equally puts his best in you. Marriage needs empathy. It needs tact. Sacrifice though important, alone is not enough.

  • Your girlfriend was ‘bold’ enough to give you an ultimatum, and was prepared to stand by it. Our women today are so afraid to lose their partners that even though they fight, argue, taunt, insult the cheating partner, they still stick with them. You were given the time to sit back and analyse, then make a clear and concise decision. Men today know they can have their cake and eat it too, so they continue to push the limits!

  • People spend their lives searching for people, places, and things to satisfy themselves. When you meet another who understands and recognizes your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual personhood; satisfaction is near. You will never leave such a one, and nothing you do for them will seem sacrificial – it’s just pure joy. I believe this gift of love is divine. But so many are unaware that this love is possible, and so we settle, cheat, divorce and struggle with our limited knowledge of counterfeit love.

  • As a man, when I’m with someone I really love I don’t even have the desire to be around other women in an intimate setting. But I’ve only experienced this agape love once. And I think the reason a lot of guys can’t stop cheating is because they’ve never really experienced this agape love, only eros love.

  • I truly enjoyed your talk. True Soul Love is the most precious most elusive 🎁 gift. No amount of money can buy it. It’s worth more than all the diamonds in the Universe. When you actually have it with another person it’s so spectacular and can lift you to the highest heights, however when lost can leave you absolutely devastated hoping sadly perhaps it’s never going to be found again. If you have it even just ONCE in your lifetime then you are surely 😇 blessed.

  • I’ve found that I am a person who has always been comfortable making decent sacrifices for my relationships. They’ve typically been for the better. And when it’s not for the better, it tends to wig me out and since I’m not feeling “right” I become weary of the relationship. It’s usually easier to tell if what you’re doing is for better or for worse than whether a person is. That being said, I’m also an all-in type of friend I’m even platonic relationships so I can’t say whether sacrifices are a good selling point for whether I truly love someone. Might as well say I love everyone who I’m close enough to, to absorb what I’d consider the most attractive parts of them.

  • I started seeing a lassie when we were 18. 2 months later we were official. I really enjoyed her company and being with her but it took about 7 or 8 months for me to gradually fall in love. Love truly is something that grows if fostered and given the right conditions. We have been together for 7 years and are now married, we have been through a few incredibly hard things and it is a love that won’t ever die or fade in any way. If you do not trust someone completely and cannot be vulnerable with them then you don’t truly love them, not really and I wish more people would realise this and save themselves problems.

  • Love isn’t ownership. Love isn’t the chemical reaction your brain gives you when you’re attracted to someone. There’s only one love. Real said it best. Love is taking someone as a part of you and only wanting the best for them. Love your neighbors, friends, and enemies. We’re just a collection of positively and negatively charged particles vibrating at different frequencies. The highest is unconstitutional LOVE. Connect to the third eye and understand that we are all made out of the same matters but differ only in our programming.

  • The audience silence doesn’t mean the speech was boring, it simply means the words are sinking into their brain ……. Shouting and clapping while listening to a speech shows ur only been entertain and nothing to remember afterwards as you’ve laughed it all away. Note : any man or woman who dose not love God can not love his fellow man genuinely. The greatest lover is God and God only …..the unconditional lover. If you desire a faithful partner for life then love your creator first because he first loved you. John 3:16

  • “I hope you both feel the sparks by the end of the drive I hope you know she’s the one by the end of the night I hope you never ever felt more free Tell your friends that you’re so happy I hope she comes along and wrecks every one of your plans I hope you spend your last dime to put a rock on her hand I hope she’s wilder than your wildest dreams She’s everything you’re ever gonna need And then I hope she cheats Like you did on me” – Gabby Barret

  • Iv came to find out that love is definitely real and there’s different types of love ..and that if your in love with some one who is also in love with you it’s so strong once it’s experienced you cannot mistake anything for it .. also if it’s really there not only will both of you see it feel it there’s no way to be confused if it’s there or not ..it’s so strong that even everyone that comes around can also see it as well .. and if your confused … I’m most cases .. that’s a given answer right there ..

  • If we’re being honest that crowd might have been filled with cheaters wanting to listen intently to correct their own behaviors. I’ve been a cheater in the past and Im currently in a relationship of 2years and I have not cheated but I still kept quiet and listened and learned. He might have had that audience’s full undivided attention 🤷🏽‍♀️💯

  • I’ve loved my children in this way….gave up my opportunities for going to college, travel, lived on shoe-string budget in dicey neighborhoods, fought doctors who wanted me to give up on my children, gave up having friends (most did not want to hang with someone with such dire circumstances in their life) to raise children on life support by myself when my ex left to have a life and my family wanted to pretend we didn’t exist. These things came to me decades later…and life is good!

  • When he began to list the reasons a relationship ends, I love the way he worded everything. Explaining the points and bringing the only 3 points to an easier understanding. I wish the audience was more receptive but it helped in really being able to focus on his words. If he read a book on this, I would read it over and over

  • The guy forgot to mention the most important thing: when men(or even worth, teens) have a lot of girls they loose the beauty of their soul, the inner essence. And,as my young daughter often says to me, when she looks into eyes of the boys who had a lot of girls their gazes are ‘dead’: no emotion in them.

  • When your really in love things come naturally, actions come with feeling… if your truly in love you wont cheat it wont even cross your mind. Men who claim they love their women/wife more, because she lets him cheat makes me sick and shows me how much the word “love is used in the wrong way. This does happen

  • I was thinking about a friend, in that moment I thought I loved her and she loved me back but we never told each other. Now after perusal this I know what happened there. I do loved her and I’m still doing it but she never felt that way about. After all this years to think that she could be the one and now I know that she isn’t. This are the words I needed to listen to move on, it would be hard but thank you.

  • My last relationship taught me many difficult and painful lessons including this one. Love is sacrifice and suffering. My ex never made me feel like a priority, sure I felt that she liked me but not the way I did her. I didn’t seem important to her and that I would come last after everything else. I tried to justify it to myself and reason with this situation. That coupled with not expressing myself or communicating effectively caused the divide to widen. It hurt and I started becoming distant, I didn’t know how to handle any of this. My low self esteem helped create this mess as well as push me deeper and deeper into my darkness. A lot of pain, confusion and frustration ensued. The lessons and realizations continue to this day. First and foremost; be a man, love and respect yourself, work to become your ideal self and listen to your instincts.

  • It amazing that a woman stays with a man who cheats and beats her. If she leaves, then she must not love him. On the other hand, if a woman cheats on her husband or man and he leaves her it not questioned if he loves her. It expected that women must stay with a mam no matter what he does to her. In addition, she must do and accept anything for him if she loves him even if she ends up in prison. As for me, I will not accept any behavior from a man that he will not accept from me. The double standard that divides men and women is not accepted by me. If you do it to me I’ll do it to you or I leave; point blank. It has been said to me you must not love him. “No matter how I fill about him I love me more”.

  • Truth is a matter of choice, sure. But sacrifice is a very ambiguous thing. It is also a way to make others obey to you. Sacrifice may be a way to buy their love. Love is not a deal, like: “here is my sacrifice, give me your love back now”. Love is a matter of gift without rewards. If you want a reward then you’re buying that person, not loving him/her. If you love someone you respect his/her liberty to seek happiness (with or without you).

  • I mean all is fair in love and war. But if you’re in a relationship, I think it’s also up to you to make sure that you’re recognized as the one and only. So that when the idea of being with someone else crosses either’s minds, either can think “I could only be with him/her”. If you fail to do that, well it’s pretty obvious what would happen.

  • I liked that this talk opens up an opportunity to provoke people’s mind in thinking about if they’re experiencing true love or not… however I do have to add – if you have passionate “true” love over someone you won’t even spend a day contemplating whether you should drop your sidelines for the “love of your life”

  • I think there are many different kinds of “LOVE”. There’s the kind of love you have for your child(ren), there’s romantic love, there’s friendly love, then there’s the kind of love we’re SUPPOSED to have for our fellow man (thy neighbor), etc. I personally don’t believe that we can really put “LOVE” into just one specific Box. People also tend to express love in differant ways depending on how they’re wired….for instance, if they were raised in a home where LOVE was shown to them through things like WORDS OF AFFIRMATION and/or VALIDATION, CONSTANT PRAISE, etc….then most likely they’ll express love to others in the same manner. I think it’s best to go with our gut whenever we’re involved in a serious relationship. If you feel as though you’re always the one putting forth all the effort in the relationship and RARELY if EVER getting the same in return….then maybe it’s time to MOVE ON to BIGGER and BETTER things.

  • I can’t imagine anyone having a relationship these days. Long term. I thought I had found the best woman ever. We aren’t together anymore and seeing how a lot of people are in relationships, it is almost like cheating is ok. Like it’s the norm. It’s demoralising and I wish I was born in a world that was more traditional where people fought for their relationships to work.

  • Here for the culture. Well done Femi! True love that is not backed up by the right action is not true love. If you are perusal this article, I want you to know that you are loved and you are deserving of love. Jesus loves you and wants to give you peace. If you would like to accept love, please say these words: Lord Jesus I accept your love and I entrust my life in your hands. Thank you! Congratulations if you said that word. Praying for your peace. God bless you. Please join a Bible believing church to grow your faith. 🙏🏽❤️

  • True love comes from God so in order for anyone to show true love to another, you first must turn to God by letting him take control of your life in loving him first .And you can only love him by keeping his commandment’s because he said if you love me keep my commandment’s,and by doing this you will have love for God and your fellowmen everything where love is concern hangs on God’s commandment’s once you decides to be obedience to it will never be at fault with love.

  • My childhood sweetheart reunited with me in 2015. We were each others true loves at middle school. She lost her dad in 2017 and i was her rock during the darkest time of her life. Comforting and guiding her through her grief, every step of the way. I know about loss, my mum commited suicide when we were 13. Her parents told her to stay out of it. We drifted apart in 2000. She called me her rock, her float and her glue. I was there for her like nobody else. A month ago she told me she is seeing some guy who has a motorcycle. Im devastated. I cant describe how forsaken i feel. Thought we were destined to be together. I still love her but i wont chase.

  • Sacrifice is how you can tell just as he said. My 2nd husband stopped sacrificing for me. He’s now loveless. I continue to sacrifice for my 2 children I have with him. My baby turns 18 this month. I have been out of the bedroom for 10 years. I sacrifice for my kids. Now he’s been ill as I am too. He has been a loving father thank God. My older 3 didn’t have that. Big difference. Never settle. When someone shows you who they are believe it. Walk away otherwise you become stuck.

  • Bible says husband love your wife, wife respect your husband. That’s God speaking to each gender’s respective weakness and strength. ‘Being respectful is an inherent virtue in a good woman and respect is a fuel for the heart of a man. Just as loving is a veritable strength in a good man and love is an oil that soothes the being of a woman. Conversely, we love what we respect and respect what we love. Its God’s way of keeping His people grounded.

  • Telling people to expect sacrifice from the people who love them gives them such a terrible skewed idea of what love is. Love is freedom. Love is free from expectation. Love is just giving, only giving. And giving in a way that it just flows out of you because your own cup is already overflowing. You have to love yourself first to love anyone else. It is much easier and effortless when love is done this way. Expecting anything from our loved ones puts them in a position where disappointment will be the outcomes many times and this is unnecessary strain on any relationship.

  • you know you’ve found someone who is in love with you when you know without a shadow of doubt that you’re spouse will lay down their life for you & it shows because you’ve seen them do it during all circumstances of life. marriage in america used to be commitment now a days its rare to find & the divorce rate shows a deterioration & getting worse.

  • You were very lucky to find true love I wish you and your family well. I feel now at 63 that I have never had or ever will find true love. It has always been one sided. I have always given and sacrificed for my partner and ex’s and put them first, they have always taken and expected it but give nothing in return. My current partner of 24 years (partner not married) has never asked for my hand in marriage, nor that we should get engaged. I do believe he has never cheated on me, so that is something I should be pleased about . But true love sounds beautiful, must be something fantastic.

  • Sometimes I feel like I can’t truly love any guy bcos it seems they are all cheaters and liars. This makes me expect them to disappoint me and so I can’t love them so when it eventually happens I won’t be heartbroken. Btw I have never gone through a heart break before I just observed these behaviour from men too commonly when I was growing up and made decision they can’t be trusted with my love lol.
