One thing missing from the statistic is the rate of single men who didn’t date, but dated after 40, and married is staggering low. As a matter of fact, by some statistic that puts me at a 2-5% chance of meeting someone. You might say go online to date, but normally the rate is 17% of people on the site gets into a relationship, whereas other factors like age will put that number even lower. With that said, if I could travel back to early 2000 and tell my 16 years old self about what life will be like at 40, I would have put way more effort into getting married younger. There’s a combination of reasons marriage is on the decline. I think urbanization and socioeconomic factors have alot to do with it. Alot of people leave home for the big city where no ones pressuring you to get married as opposed to being constantly nagged by your aunt about it. I heard stuff about “marrying and divorcing over and over again” once on a podcast with Hoya Roc and Zoltan Teglas. Zoltan actually was saying that there is a marriage and divorce industry in the USA behind and it was in big part responsible for this devaluation of long-term relationships and also stable families.
