What Shoes To Wear With Knee Length Dress?

Fashion trends this year include metallic shoes, knee boots, and Mary Janes. When styling a mid-length piece, consider the footwear on your feet. Opt for a suitable boot, such as leather or suede slouchy boots, with a midi or maxi length sweater dress for an elevated look. Adidas soccer sneakers are also popular, with options like Samba and Gazelle.

When choosing shoes for a knee-length dress, consider the length that flatters your height and the shoes you wear. Lace-up combat boots or chunky-soled Chelsea boots with a midi dress will give an edge to your outfit. White and neutral sneakers are versatile and can be worn with jeans or chambray dresses.

A patterned cardigan with a green skirt and knee high boots can enhance your style. If your dress is black, navy, or any other solid color, wear a shoe that pops with crystals, sequins, or bright colors. If your outfit already has a lot going on, a comfortable pair of black shoes or a nude color can be a great choice.

To complete your knee-length dress outfit, explore top shoe ideas that will enhance your style and make a fashionable statement. Knee high boots or ballet flats are great options if wedges are not an option. Brogues are a popular option for ankle boots. Sandals are a perfect choice for an ankle-length dress, with flats or small heels for a casual look and higher heeled sandals for a more formal look.

Where should a knee length dress fall?

To achieve the ideal tall silhouette, hemlines should end at the narrowest part of your body. For a maxi, it should end just above the ankles. For a midi, it should end at the narrowest part of your shin. For a knee-length skirt, it should end at the bottom of your knee. Wearing a mini skirt is no longer a cause for concern. You’d be comfortable wearing shorts or a mini skirt. Hemlines have come a long way. Before they were a fashion staple, they were designed for practicality and function, not style. Before hemlines were shortened, they covered the ankle for modesty. Heels were shortened to about 17 inches above the ankle because women started working and war made it hard to find textiles. In the 1970s, hemlines like mini, midi, and maxi were all popular.

Today, hemlines make your body look taller. Wearing hemlines at certain lengths can make your body look longer or shorter.

For a special event where you’ll be standing a lot, pair the Taylor dress with an eye-catching flat. Our top picks are the Rowans in silver or Prosecco. Complete the look with coordinating earrings and the vegan leather Nicky jacket. Patterns are another way to make your flats more interesting, especially with a solid black dress. Try the leopard-print Grace loafers with the Felisa dress, which features clean lines and cap sleeves, and layer on a cropped jacket during the cooler months. Complete your mostly black look with gold accessories like the Claressa hoops and dainty single-bezel necklace.

  • Sarah i LOVE your website! 😍 You say things that nobody else says and you’re SO RIGHT!!!! Thank you. I subscribed after just 1 article. I’ve been perusal TONS of style articles for months now, and al lot of them recommend pencil skirts for rectangle shape, but they have always looked terrible on me, and I couldn’t understand it. 🤔(I’m 5ft 2.5″ btw and a very slim size 8, with practically no bust 🥴). So when you said avoid anything with straight lines, I knew I was onto a good thing. 🤗 I’m very much looking forward to perusal more of your articles, and as a visual learner I really do appreciate the images you have to show us. They’re great!

  • I just have to disagree with the ”outfit sandwich” concept. I’m petite with short legs and a long torso. Wearing the same color from foot to waist (albeit varying in textures quite often) gives me the illusion of a longer leg. It’s a must for me (one of my personal style elements). If I used the sandwich rule, I’d be cut into three quadrants, obviously a leg shortener. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

  • I’d just come in from the garden, I’ve just got over Covid and now got shingles, trying not to feel sorry for myself…..then up popped the lovely Lydia….you raise my spirits even though I am older, I adore your style and articles, ignore any silly comments, not worth the room they take in your brain space, listen to your heart…always!!! …happy summer ❤️

  • You’re such a beautiful breath of fresh air. Your content is so well organize to express your point of style techniques. I’m 70 yrs old and fascinated with your choices of fashion and was raised with quite the similar mindset. I laugh at the trends that says minimalist, classic and old money. That’s been my style all my life. Great job of sharing updated trends with a classic twist.

  • Brilliant content. As they say, the devil is in the details. You covered the finer subtleties that really make all the difference in the finished look… those that make it a “pass” or “fail.” So appreciate the extra care and thought you put into guiding us! Thank you as always, Lydia. So pleased to be a member of your community. ❤

  • I have just joined to your subscribers after perusal few of your articles. Waw, such an elegant, young woman with right manners. Happy to see so fresh and smart content in the world if tik-tok crazyness. Lydia, what a beautiful name, your advice is very useful and time spent in your website is worth every second. Greetings from Slovak 40+ girl 😅

  • I’ve unsubscribed from so many YouTubers lately and I think you’re actually the only fashion YouTuber left that I’m subscribed to, apart from my friends. I love how you don’t push us to buy things all the time, even your ads feel very organic, and it’s purely about the outfits and the styling whatever your budget. Love all your content!

  • As soon as I saw your top, I loved it! Thanks for letting us know its history and even though it is a neutral shade your lipstick brings in the burnished sun baked shades that look so fresh right now. In fact your whole make-up palette does. I have been perusal your website for a while now and I have finally got a closet full of clothes that I feel good about wearing and ideas about how to make my outfits personal. I am buying less and putting more thought into my purchases. I added a red bandana tied at my neck to a very simple navy blue linen dress for a Memorial Day party and it made the dress stylin’ and perfect for the party. I never would have had the thought (or had the nerve) to do that before perusal you.

  • I spotted the dress on the rack, and kept waiting excitingly for u to dress it up 😍 Colours suit u ! I remember across the years every summer that u add some colour, coloured printed sets, pink dresses, .. etc. 😉 I am a colour girl, yet love neutrals too, so u can imagine how excited I am when u wear them 😂 The devil is in the details 👌🏼 U nail ’em every single time ! I always say Lydia is the queen of proportions 😍👏🏼

  • Thanks for your articles. I love your voice and listening to you, and the way you explain fashion. You have helped me start to get back into putting myself together and feeling more confident, after years of ignoring this side of my self due to having kids and everything that comes with being a mom. You’r awesome. I hope you do great, you deserve it.

  • Wonderful content! I really appreciate your attention to little details, namely with the loafers. I have two different pairs: a dark brown color with the Sezane style crunchiness and a nude pair with the Tod’s shape. I find that my nude and more delicate-style loafers are far more versatile in the warmer months compared to my chunky loafers, which are more versatile in the fall and winter months, just based on styles and coloring between seasons. When I first started perusing my personal style, I didn’t realize that having the styles BOTH of loafers and for trainers alike, would make such a difference! I love to play fling-girl dress-up to figure out how to style things and how I like them styled. I do wish I could find a delicate summer sandal that also had good support… I guess the two don’t really go hand in hand. I’ve always been a barefoot person, so flat sandals are okay, but it would be great to have a supportive pair to wear for longer periods of time. I certainly do love contrasting elegant pieces with casual! It certainly makes the piece I adore wearing for the fun of it much more practical and suitable to daily life. P.s. You have such lovely, toned arms! I would love to know what you do for fitness and if you participate, what fitness clothing you enjoy.

  • Thank you so much Lydia, I’ve discovered your website a few months ago and your advice helped me so much. I get compliments on my look all the time now and that used to never happen. I feel so chic and polished now. THANK YOU Could you please make a article on how to recognize quality in clothes, shoes, etc ?

  • All those pieces are beautiful! That dress is gorgeous, the linen skirt I’m obsessed with. Love this shoe tip article, what I would also love to see is maybe more shoe suggestions inserted in the article from Pinterest etc, just to give us more options. I know I’m prob asking too much but IYKYK… Thanks Lydia!

  • Lovely words at the end of this article. You looked a little overwhelmed – bless you! (Gratitude is wonderful mindset.) I discovered you a few months ago. I was fed up feeling that other women always looked more put together than me. Like they knew a secret and I wasn’t privy to it! You would think someone in their late 40’s could dress themselves…..I couldn’t. But I can now. A wardrobe review and edit – tbh I have alot of the right pieces, I just couldn’t put them together very well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I can see your audience spans many ages, which must be wonderful to know. Keep em coming girl. You are doing a wonderful job.

  • I have come across your articles and I love the way you present different outfits. I have seen other fashion presents but I find most of them are frumps. You obviously have a well developed style of dressing which suits your personality and physic. It is a pleasure to watch your articles as well as a lot of fun. I am an older lady so I wouldn’t wear a miniskirt however, at your age and with your physic it looks amazing!

  • Hi Lydia. I have been following your chanel for a while and absolutely love it. I work as n journalist and a couple of times I have already suggested your website in my articles as a very useful one. Keep up your great work. Greetings from Prague (btw great place for a long summer weekend city break:-))

  • Great article Lydia! I especially liked the introduction because some people may see you and think I can’t wear what she wears, or she would look great in a gunny sack. Ha, ha. And they miss the point that they were looking for help. And one of the things that you do a great with is sharing styling tips that can be used no matter what size you are, body shape, or age. In fact, I think of your content as advanced styling but maybe that’s because I have been perusal for some time. Keep up the good work.

  • Lydia, you are so right about the black loafer. I had on a pair last weekend just like the one you were showing us, and I had beige linen slacks and a black top and black blazer, but when I looked in the mirror at the mall, I thought, No, no, no. these loafers are too wintery/chunky for this outfit. With the top stitching, the tongue detail and the larger heel. I put them away until Autumn when I got home. I didn’t realize why they didn’t work; I just knew they were not right. I thought… like you just said, maybe another more streamlined black loafer or even a lighter color loafer would look better. Thank you for pointing that out. I am just glad I didn’t wear them with a beige skirt. Also, last weekend I had on a puffy mini dress (blue stripe instead of flower print) and I was having an awful time choosing the correct shoe. I do not know why it was so hard for me to choose. My husband was waiting for me to go out and I just wasn’t getting it correct. I finally choose a nude sandal with a small heel. That looked OK. But so glad you went into detail about why the nude flat sandal was best. Thank you again and thank you for being so helpful to us. We all appreciate your hard work. I am so glad you don’t have a lot of hateful trolls.

  • Appreciate your articles so much Lydia because you bring in a scientific and mathematical element to fashion which is so relevant because when it doesn’t look right it’s a mathematical calculation made by the eye. One thing I have take out of this article is that summer shoes need to be quite minimalist whether it be trainers or sandals. This does not always work for me because I need a lot of foot support and flat sandals end up just hurting my knees. So still looking for that perfect sandal which combines arch support and a streamlined look. I’m sure it’s out there somewhere just need to keep surfing!

  • Lydia.. I do love you to pieces, truly. You’ve helped me get back on my game and purge my closet that made me nuts of unnecessary ridiculousness 👏 I love blazers, jackets, jumpers etc.. BUT are these really practical this time of year ? I’m (or maybe most) are not going to really wear those.. we want to strip ourselves of fabric from winter. Granted, UK weather can be flighty, but I can say with all certainty no matter what the weather is in summer I want to show some skin (preferably tanned😉) Just a thought: At the end of articles, maybe show those options ? (Just to me) It would feel like the “bonus tip”😊 PS.. You’ve 💯 hands down helped with my shoe game ! Bravo 👏

  • Lydia my dear! I love this article, I never can really explain why sometimes some shoes to not go with some outfits, and you could express exactly what I think! Sometime they don’t seem to be right for the outfit.Your articles are so useful, so nice and always very positive! Love it! 🙂 Btw I was shocked with the colourful dress, hehehe! 😛

  • One of my most difficult things is trying to find the right shoe for outfit. I’m really having a hard time finding a summer closed toe shoe/sandal to wear to work with flowy pants or skirts/dresses. I wear the sandals, typically, but technically I’m supposed to have my toes covered and I can’t wear heels higher than an inch. Oh well… 😊

  • Lydia. I like the fact that like me you are a big fan of wearing neutrals. They always look gorgeous together don’t they? I think your dress sense in the main is great. The mini skirt featured on this article is gorgeous. Will you be restocking this as I would love one? As for hateful comments made by viewers. I only have the following to say. When people are well dressed classic and know what they’re doing. A lot of people get jealous and you will have a lot of haters as a result. I love what you wear. I also love your jewellery. Lydia where did you get it from? Lydia. Just ignore these haters. They are just jealous and insecure not to mention immature. Thank you very much for uploading this article and for all your content. Pure.

  • How could anyone be negative towards you? Are the Sezane loafers comfortable. I am considering getting a pair for the fall season. I know it is probably so hard to answer or reply to a lot of your followers on this website, but I would greatly appreciate it you could try to let me know about the loafers. You are so lovely and elegant.

  • I am a bit confused since I remember you saying how we should strive for contrast – and if we have delicate combine it with something less delicate etc, so I would have thought that a feminine mini skirt would go better with chunkier masculine loafers (sezane) and not Tods, hmmm or did I misunderstand your previous guidance?:)
