Standard ring sizes range from 3 to 13.5, with women’s rings typically falling between sizes 3 and 9, and men’s rings generally between sizes 8 and 14. We started a project to help you pick the right sizes. It’s hard to find two people in the clothing industry who agree. Patterns are different sizes and sizes are different sizes. Crazy! After looking around in department stores and pattern departments, we realized it wasn’t just us. We’ve included what we believe to be typical sizes based on average weights and measurements. Use it as a guide, but remember that we get blanks from all over and the vendors don’t always follow the charts. Also, normal-sized stuff shrinks, so allow for shrinkage when ordering. Some vendors cut oversize to allow for shrinkage. After shrinkage, they should be the right size. We mark oversized items with an icon. We decided to measure everything before shrinkage. You will see those measurements on all of our clothing. Use that when you need a more specific fit. Don’t forget to allow for shrinkage! That’s the deal. Need help? Join the club. Anyway, we hope it helps.

  • Thanks buddy for the great review. I bought a cheap Savage 308 and it has those cheap rings and scope I have been having a hard time keeping it at Zero. then I realized that the scope get loose after a few shots. on 2.47min, you showed that cheap ring from Walmart and hit the nail on the head for me. Upgrading those rings as we speak. Thanks

  • You kept mentioning leaving links in the description, which you ended up not doing. What specific brand and model of rings would you recommend for a ruger american in 30-06 (so a long action and I believe it requires weaver mounts) and a vortex 4-12×40 scope (which has a 1in tube)? Thanks for the article!

  • I just bought a Henry lever action model ho12 gcl 45 colt with side load gate my dilemma is I want to be able to use it for deer black bear and cougar but still want to be able to use it for cowboy action shooting my brother in law told me I could get one of those quick attach detach rings that I can pop on for hunting and off for cas to use the semi buckhorn I hope my theory is correct and it would work but I don’t know

  • You must degrease your new rings and screws prior to mounting. The factory has a rust preventive. If you do not remove they will loosen. Never use normal bases in a Picatinny mount. The scope will shake loose. Picatinny mounts require Picatinny rings and bases. Always use blue lock tight. I hate split scope rings.

  • I’m not sure what they are called but on majority of my hunting rifles the scope rings allow me to still use my open sights easily. To me say you by chance have the deer of a lifetime comes in 15yrds away that scope isn’t doing anything, while open sights still an option. Or by chance you trip walking into the woods and don’t trust if your scope got dinged enough it might be off, well without open sights it’s left to chance while with that style rings open sights are still an option. Just a preference I suppose.

  • I agree that the vertical split rigs are terrible to work with! You need 7 hands, and despite this, they will fall apart on you at lest 5 times during assembly! The vertical configuration is supposed to prevent the scope from rotating whilst you tighten the rings (common with horizontally split rings), but it’s simply not worth the fuss. As you mentioned – moving the complete scope assembly to another rifle is also out of the question. Hard pass on these, thank you!

  • I’m a big fan of Leupold Mark 4 rings. I watch for sets on my local gun forum in the classified section. I wait a few weeks. And then offer $40. Bought two sets. Bought another on eBay for $50. Just bought a Leupold mark 4 cantilever one piece mount for $50. I sometimes don’t need them . But at the price I just buy them to have if I need a set. Amazing how people buy the wrong height. Then when they go to sell. People aren’t confident that the rings are going to work. And it’s not like you can drive over to a strangers house and ask to try them out on your rifle.
