What To Do When The Brides Side Is Small?

A kids table is a good idea for weddings with young guests, as long as it is located near where the children’s parents will be dining. Consider placing coloring books and other activities at the kids table to keep youngsters entertained. When attending a wedding, it is important to decide which side the bride and groomsmen should sit on. The bride’s side historically consisted of the bride and her parents.

In the U.S., the bride traditionally stands on the left side of the altar and the groom on the right side. However, this practice is not a law but a tribute to history. If you don’t have a preference for where to sit, you can fill in an empty seat on either side of the aisle. Guests of honor may be assigned a special seat.

During the tea ceremony, elders from both sides of the family present gold accessories and jewelry to the bride, which holds deep cultural value in Chinese tradition. To plan a wedding, set a budget, choose a date, style, and site, meet with the ceremony officiant, coordinate invites, flowers, and photography, write wedding vows, and send thank-you notes for all gifts.

The Christian wedding processional order includes the officiant, who makes announcements and lets everyone know that the wedding is about to start. For a personalized touch, pair sweets with your favorite way to end the night.

Another option is to form a semi-circle around the couple instead of traditional sides. Alternatively, blend them together in couples or groups of three and have them stand on both sides of the couple instead of having bridesmaids on the left and groomsmen on the right.

When planning a destination wedding, it is important to go with the uniformity and explain that your family will not be attending the wedding.

Why does the bride’s family sit on the left all?

In the Middle Ages, a bride might be kidnapped and held by the groom with his left hand so that he could fight if her father or brothers came to rescue her. The best man would stand nearby to defend. The couple faced the altar in a church. Family members sat behind them. The groom’s family sat to the right, and the bride’s to the left. It’s unlikely that the bride has been kidnapped, and most ceremonies are now performed by a civil celebrant (no altar) with the couple facing each other or the guests. In many instances, all guests are known to both the bride and groom, so seating no longer has the importance it once held.

At one wedding, the bride had 70 relatives and the groom had only 5. If they had followed tradition, one side would have been empty while the other was full. This doesn’t look good in photos.

How to walk down the aisle with an uneven bridal party?

Walking Down the Aisle. One reason brides and grooms worry about an uneven wedding party is the processional. Who will each person walk down with? There’s no rule that says bridesmaids and groomsmen have to pair up for their entrances. Consider matching one bridesmaid with two groomsmen (or vice versa), having each bridesmaid process alone, or having all groomsmen start at the altar. If you go with the latter option, the bridesmaids will walk down the aisle alone.

Standing During the Ceremony. Some couples worry about how the wedding party will look during the ceremony. Don’t worry about an uneven group. Guests will be focused on you and your spouse, not the number of attendants. If you want everything to look even, you have a few options. Mix bridesmaids and groomsmen on both sides of the aisle so the number is balanced. You can choose a few people to stand during your vows while everyone else sits.

Taking Photos. An uneven wedding party doesn’t have to result in lopsided pictures. Your photographer will arrange everyone to create a balanced look. Your wedding photographer knows what they’re doing. Let them take pictures of your whole group that you’ll love.

Is it better to have a small bridal party?

Should you have a small wedding party? You want to include everyone in your wedding party, but you can’t. If you’re having trouble deciding, don’t stress. There are many benefits to a small wedding party. We like a smaller wedding party, not just because it’s easier to herd six people than 20. A small wedding party saves time, drama, and money. Saves time. Wedding days can be long. Getting hair and makeup done can start early for the ladies. Were talking hair & makeup starting at 6am for 7 bridesmaids, 2 moms, and grandma before the First Look at 2 PM. If your reception ends at midnight, you’ve been awake for 18 hours!

With a smaller wedding party, you can sleep in longer. There’s more time for relaxation when there are fewer people getting ready.

How to handle an uneven bridal party?

Your wedding party is uneven, but no one will notice. If you don’t like the uneven appearance, you can: – Have each side sit after the processional, leaving you and your partner alone. – Have just your maid of honor and best man stand with you.

Recessional: If both sides came in together for the processional, simply reverse for the end of the ceremony. If the bridesmaids and groomsmen didn’t walk in together, they can walk out in groups of three and two. Or, everyone can dance out of the ceremony! Be creative and have fun!

Reception: Have fun and make the reception yours. The wedding party can sit at the head table. You can arrange the seating to match who they walked in with. You can let your wedding party sit with the guests.

Does it matter which side the bride and groom stand on at the altar?

Christian wedding ceremony. In a Christian wedding, the bride stands on the left and the groom on the right. The bride’s family sits on one side and the groom’s family on the other. This tradition goes back a long time, and you might not like the reasons. Jordan Yuppa of Here to Hitch Wedding Officiants in Nutley, New Jersey, says this tradition comes from ancient European customs. In the Middle Ages, the groom kept his sword arm free to protect his bride from attackers or suitors who might try to steal her away. The tradition might seem strange, but there might be a romantic reason for it.

Which side do brides’ families sit on?

Seating family. Seat married parents. The bride’s parents sit in the first pew or row on the left, facing the ceremony. The groom’s parents sit in the first row on the right. At same-sex weddings, the couple might seat guests on one side or the other. If there are two aisles, the congregation sits in the center. The bride’s parents sit on the left, the groom’s on the right. Seat widowed parents. If the bride or groom’s parents are widowed, they may want to be by their side during the ceremony. This is fine. Their guest is treated as an honored guest.

Seating divorced parents. If the bride or groom’s parents are divorced, seating needs to be planned carefully and the ushers need instructions. It can be tricky. Divorced parents may or may not get along, or the bride may be close to one parent and not the other. Tact and diplomacy are important for keeping the peace.

Why is the bride always on the right side?

In a Hindu wedding, the bride switches sides during rituals, moving from the groom’s right to his left after the marriage is official. In traditional Jewish weddings, the bride stands on the right side of the groom, with both facing the rabbi. This is a reference to Psalms: “Your queen shall stand on your right.”

Modern altar placements. Today, there’s little chance of a duel at a wedding, and wedding traditions are less strict. Couples can choose where each partner stands according to their own preferences. “These rules can be changed,” says Eid. Couples who choose to sit with their families in different parts of the venue might stand opposite them, so their loved ones can see their faces. Brides and grooms can choose where to stand. “The bride or groom should decide where to stand based on where they prefer to be photographed or where they feel most comfortable,” says Eid. They would stand with the side of their face they prefer facing their guests and the side they least prefer facing their officiant.

Is it OK to have a small bridal party?

No rules. There are no rules for picking a bridal party. If you want to include fourteen people on each side, go for it! If you only want four, that’s fine! Or no bridal party if you want! Do it! It’s your wedding day. Do what you want! We like bridal parties of six or eight people. Think about this as you plan your wedding. The most important thing is to have the people you love by your side. Don’t make your friends and family take a back seat to the photographer. If you have seven bridesmaids and want an even number, ask yourself, “Who is someone who has supported me and would enjoy standing next to me at my wedding?”

If you’re wondering about your own ceremony, here’s some advice on how to look and feel your best at the altar.

Follow tradition. In Christian ceremonies, brides usually stand on the left. In Jewish ones, they stand on the right. The bride may also be on the right for military and police weddings. Ask your officiant about the rules for your ceremony.

Is it okay to have an uneven bridal party?

Can you have an uneven wedding party? It’s fine to have an uneven wedding party. Couples may have uneven wedding parties for many reasons. They may have more siblings or relatives on one side, different expectations from friends and family, or a larger circle of friends on one side. Modern weddings are breaking with tradition. This means that rules like choosing wedding party members just for symmetry are being broken. Today’s couples are also choosing wedding party members of different genders or no wedding party at all. Post says that if you have to ask people you wouldn’t normally ask just to be even, you’re putting numbers and symmetry above people. That’s not always the best choice.

  • Loved your article and found it so easy to follow. I’m taking the challenge of recreating a wedding dress for my daughter’s debutante ball and as someone who usually only really mends this is a huge curve ball. I have a month and some careful planning should allow for fittings throughout. Wish me luck! Though I feel so much better about the whole thing after perusal this. Bring it on ! 😀

  • This is a great article, very clear and helpful – but would you confirm whether the lining seam needs to be hand sewn to close? I’ve taken in a bodice which has three layers; fine net with appliques, heavy glitter layer and a final lining. The net and glitter layers I’ve taken in by machine exactly as you show in your article, but without turning the entire dress inside out (impossible for a large gown) I’m assuming that I close the lining seam by hand sewing. Is this correct please as no-one every seems to show or discuss it. Thank you!

  • It’s only easy (simp!e) if you have a little knowledge. It can take quite awhile to get it where it looks good and The Bride is happy….THAT WHAT IT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT!!! This is a skill and when you can’t do it pay someone…I sew for a living and what I can’t do I have no problem finding someone who can …Respect the Profession …we can never be replace with a computer…

  • Hello! Thankyou so much for your lovely article. I’m getting married next year and a kind friend is lending me her dress for the day. It’s 27 years old ivory satin with pearl beading on the front. Its beautiful but also a size too big. Is there any simple way I can alter the size or fit without causing any permanent damage or changes or the dress? Hope you have a lovely day xx

  • There IS a very quick way to tie a knot, though I don’t know if I’ll explain it well. Wrap the thread around the tip of your finger two or three times. Let’s say your right forefinger. With your left hand, hold the rest of the thread out and pull, while, with your right thumb, you roll the wrapped thread off your fingertip. Trust me: it’ll knot up. I hope that works for you!

  • Interesting article! Id be interested to know how much profit wedding gowns create …theyre expensive to buy and im guessing that is due to fabrics time experrise etc would be great to see a breakdown of all that (not your personal finances obviously, just generally in bridal) and i think rhat would help anyone thinking of going into that field… you must be a saint i lose patience if i spend 4 hours on the same garment, id never manage a wedding dress lol. I did make my own wedding dress but we did it on the quiet so i made betty dress from sew over it using fabric from ikea!! Not dressy in the slightest! And i made it with two days to go! Lol would be interested in what its like to work in a bridal ie is it stressful? Fun? What do you love and hate about bridal etc? X

  • I haven’t seen anybody asking, but I would be curious to know how long this whole process really took? I adjust wedding dresses but some of them I wish I wouldn’t have to deal with 😄 because it seems impossible sometimes to do and it takes many hours, and I feel bad to charge so much (good thing I don’t do this for a living, so I don’t have to charge a lot).

  • Lovely tutorial! I’m so happy you’re making articles again! This article brings back memories of a wedding dress that I altered last year. ☺️ Looking forward to your articles on straps and hem shortening, as I’m about to do both of those types of alterations on a couple of formal gowns in the next few weeks! 💕
