When trying on wedding dresses, it is essential to feel comfortable and confident in your underwear of choice. Wedding underwear is traditionally white, ivory, or nude, but the specific color choice when wearing a sheer or sexy wedding dress is key to creating that illusion. Guests can wear anything they want as they go wedding dress shopping, but there are three factors to consider when picking what you should wear to the wedding dress.
Some comfortable but cute casual outfit ideas for wedding dress shopping as a guest include a sweater top, navy blue striped top, jeans and a casual top, button-up top, blush V-Neck balloon sleeve bodysuit, suit trousers with a button-down shirt and no tie, or a floaty maxi or midi-length dress.
A few extra tips for what to wear to a wedding include knowing the difference between black and white tie, knowing the dress code for men, and having a conversation with your stylist about your dream day and look.
During your bridal appointment, the only item required is any type of panty or underwear due to state law and for sanitation purposes. Cups and boning within traditional wedding gowns provide structure and support, eliminating the need for a bra entirely. Accessories, such as jewelry, can complete an outfit and enhance your look.

How soon should you try on wedding dresses?
Typically, we suggest making your bridal dress appointments 9-12 months prior to your wedding date. This date is suggested with the goal of picking out and ordering a dress 8-9 months before the wedding. This gives you plenty of time to shop around and find the dress of your dreams. It also ensures that you avoid rush fees and give designers the lead time necessary to create your gown from scratch. Dont forget that each gown is made to order, so longer wait times are inevitable. Finally, this timeline allows for alterations after the dress has come in. Even though the dress will be made specifically for you, there will most likely be slight alterations done to make it fit like a dream, and thats something brides must plan for.
Although it may be tempting during longer engagements, we suggest avoiding dress shopping before 12 months out. Starting your wedding dress hunt too early can result in dress regret later on. Brides who start before the 12-month mark often find themselves comparing their dress to newer designs as more recent collections are rolled out. Additionally, the farther out your wedding is, the less you know! Ensuring that you have the wedding theme and location established before you pick a dress can help make sure that it is appropriate for the occasion.

What Underwear Should I Wear to Try on Wedding Dresses?. When trying on wedding dresses, it’s important to wear the type of underwear you plan to wear on your big day. This way, you’ll be able to see how the dress looks with your underwear before your wedding. However, it can still be challenging to know which type of underwear to choose. While some ladies may easily reach for a no-show thong, other brides-to-be may not find these as comfortable.
In general, the underwear pieces you choose should be a neutral color that will blend in with your skin. It’s also best to find something that’s seamless to avoid any panty lines from showing through the dress. For the bra, choose something strapless and seamless, as well as in a neutral color.
Additionally, the underwear you choose may also depend on the type of wedding dress you’re looking for. While some brides-to-be may have no idea what they want when going into their bridal appointment, others may already know ahead of time the style they’ll prefer. You cant wear fake tan or lots of makeup to your appointment.
For the majority of bridal shops, including Hannah Elizabeth Bridal in Botley, you are unable to wear fake tan or significant make-up to your appointment. When you find the dress of your dreams, you wont even notice your skin or lack of eyelash, you will fall in love with it regardless. Who should go with bride to try on dresses?
Who should you invite when shopping for your wedding dress?Maid of Honor – Of course, your number one gal should be there with you to help you pick your gown. … Parents or Close Family – Chances are your mom has been dreaming of your wedding for a while –maybe even longer than you have.
It is official, you are engaged- yay! Now the fun gets to begin, and you get to start looking for your dream wedding dress. As you start thinking about setting up your bridal appointments, you need to think about who you plan on inviting to come with you. Going gown shopping is super exciting and it can be tempting to share that experience with everyone on your side of the bridal party. While this may sound great in theory, it’s difficult to make happen and can potentially add stress to your decision making process. We recommend limiting your gown shopping entourage to about three people at most. This will help make your experience the best it can be with the very most important people by your side.
Now that we know how many people you should bring, let’s talk about who!
- Maid of Honor – Of course, your number one gal should be there with you to help you pick your gown. She probably knows your style better than anyone else so having her opinion would be a great help.
- Parents or Close Family –Chances are your mom has been dreaming of your wedding for a while –maybe even longer than you have. So there is no doubt that she is an obvious choice to bring with you to go wedding dress shopping. Or maybe your Aunt who has been an important part in your upbringing. Then of course a nice choice would be extending the invite to your MOG to make her feel included. And then of course, if you have a sister she would be a perfect to have there to help pick out your wedding dress!
- Bridesmaids – The women that you asked to stand by your side on your big day would naturally be the next choice for who to bring to your appointment. While we think it is great that you are so close to your #bridetribe, bringing in all of your girls can make things difficult. You are then working with so many different opinions. Of course you don’t anyone feeling left out, so our recommendation is to make a really fun appointment with all of your girls when YOUR actual wedding dress arrives in the store, and make it a grand reveal for them! This way you will limit the amount of opinions that you have when picking out your gown, but you will be able to make sure that everyone feels included.
- Its okay to shop alone –It’s also totally okay to go shopping alone if that’s what makes you the most comfortable! Keep in mind, shopping for your wedding dress is much different than running to the mall for a new outfit, we recommend doing what is easiest for you. Some brides feel do guilty about not sharing the experience with friends or family– but you don’t need to! They will understand, and this entire process is for YOU. If anyone is bummed that they didn’t get to go shopping with you, you can always invite them to your gown pick up appointment or even one of your fittings!
