Can I wear red in Thailand?

In Thailand to venture out on a Monday wearing flaming red is just asking for trouble. You are tempting fate and likely to have a bad day. But, wear the same red outfit on a Sunday and youll be fine. Your Monday outfit ought to be yellow or at the very least cream coloured.

This curious and fascinating practise of associating colour with particular days of the week stems from astrological rules rooted in Hindu mythology. The colour assigned to each day is the same as that of the god who protects that day. For instance, the god Surya, which means Sun in Sanskrit, is red and protects your Sunday – dont wear blue! Interestingly, Surya is often depicted in a chariot, pulled by seven horses, which represent the colours of the rainbow.

Each day also has an unlucky colour(s) associated with it, red being unlucky on Monday, yellow and white on Tuesday, pink on a Wednesday and so on.

What do you wear on honeymoon?

Its tradition for brides to wear white leading up to and on the day of their wedding, but after you say “I do,” youre free to wear whatever color you choose. “Obviously, lots of white is classic, but dont shy away from choosing another color palette, and feel free to mix in some prints,” says Leilani.

Youll want to dress comfortably, especially if your trip is going to take longer than a few hours. A coordinating athleisure set will make you feel put together without sacrificing your comfort. Wear light layers and dont forget to bring a jacket in case it gets cold on the plane. We also recommend socks, closed-toed shoes, and a sleep mask if you want to catch some Zs before landing in paradise.

Depending on where youre going, you want to bring at least three but no more than five pairs of shoes. Wear a comfortable sneaker on the plane for walking tours and light excursions, a heel or elevated sandals for dinners, and a sandal or flip flop for the beach/pool. If theres room in your luggage, bring a slipper for walking around the hotel. You can bring additional shoes for going out or adventuring, but if you bring more than five pairs, you may as well check another bag filled with shoes (which we fully support, too). Try to pack light when it comes to shoes so you can bring more outfits, which is all youll see in photos anyway.

Safe to say, daisy duke shorts that let your buttcheeks hang out and spaghetti strap tanks that show too much cleavage and skin are not welcome in Thailand.

Its a modest country and youll find most locals wear clothing that covers them fairy well — you should do the same.

Unless youre on a beach or sunbathing by the pool, respect the local customs and stick to the daily dress code (i.e. dont wear skimpy outfits).

Is there a strict dress code in Thailand?

Tip: As mentioned, Thailand is a modest country but its dress code is also very sun-smart. The more you add sun protection with your clothing, the better youll meet Thai cultural norms. Choose long-sleeved linen shirts over short-sleeves as well as longer lengths in shorts, skirts and dresses. As well, this is not the time for tight clothing – its way too hot. Add breathing room in size choices whenever possible. Luckily, Gen Zs decimation of Millennial fashion plays into your hand – oversized linen shirts are perfect.

2. Quick-dry, wicking and performance fabric. These recommendations come with a few caveats based on where and when youll be in Thailand.‍

Wool?! Yes – in some situations its ideal, but only if its lightweight (look for ≤ 150g/m²). Merinos magic is a combination of properties: its wicking and breathable, it offers UPF protection, it dries quickly, it doesnt wrinkle and it wont smell when it gets sweaty.

Can I wear all black in Thailand?

Colors and patterns in Thai clothing One color you do need to avoid is black, as it signifies bad luck and is thought to attract bad spirits in Thai culture. This color is only socially acceptable when attending a funeral. Symbolism is important to the Thai people.

  • the less you bring, the better. You can always get some shirts and shorts at night markets. I follow the rule of 3 for the tropics (not sure if such a rule actually exists): 3 t-shirts, 3 pairs of underwear and 3 pairs of shorts. That’s it! If you’re organized and disciplined like me, it never hurts to do a quick hand wash while you’re in the shower.

  • I like a sling bag that goes over your shoulder and stays in front. You can get them easily online. They can easily store a tablet/phone/wallet/passports/boarding cards etc. It is the best thing to use when travelling as its light and convenient to use. Gr8 article and tips…. my family and I will be there in Oct 21. Cant wait!
