What is the dress code for a winery?

  • Dont Wear Perfume or Fragrances – avoid wearing heavy perfumes, colognes or lotions with strong smells. These can interfere with the aromas of the wine and bother other tasters who are trying to asses the aromas in the wine.
  • Dont Wear Clunky Jewelry – choose simple accessories that wont get in the way of your wine tasting. Clunky jewelry can clank against glasses or more easily knock glasses off the table.
  • Dont Wear White or Light-Colored Clothing – while white & light colored clothing can look elegant (& keep you cool on a hot day!), they are more susceptible to spills or stains when wine tasting. If its going to be hot during your visit, try to opt for darker colors in lighter fabrics – such as linen or cotton.
  • Dont Wear Clothes that Arent Comfortable– wearing clothes that are overly tight or complicated to get in and out of may not be the best fit on a wine tour. Youll often walk through vineyards, sit and stand for long periods, and since youre consuming water and wine all day, youll likely use the restroom frequently. So you want to make sure your clothes are comfortable and easy to wear for extended periods.
  • Dont Overdress or Underdress – while some wineries are more luxurious than others, your winery outfit shouldnt be formal. So keep the cocktail dresses at home, and instead opt for a stylish sundress. On the flip side, sweatpants arent typically appropriate for wine tasting. However, a cute pair of jeans with a nice blouse or top are perfect for a day wine tasting!

In the end, the most important thing to wear on a wine tour is your smile! Wine tasting is a fun, social and casual day out where you get to spend time with friends and make some new ones.

Absolutely! Jeans are a great option for a day of wine tasting.

For women, this usually means dresses that hit around the knee, tailored pants with a dressy top, or standout jumpsuits. Its all about looking polished and poised.

So, youve got an invite, and it screams cocktail attire — but what does that really mean for us? Lets unravel the mystery. Cocktail attire is that sweet spot between your most glamorous gown and your favorite business casual wear. Its about looking polished and poised without feeling overdone. Think of it as your fashion playground for semi-formal events where you get to show off your personal style with a touch of sophistication.

The Heart of Cocktail Chic. Embrace the elegance, but remember, comfort is your best friend. The core of cocktail chic lies in finding pieces that make you feel confident and fabulous. Midi dresses are your allies here, offering just the right blend of class and comfort. Theyre versatile, stylish, and work for every body type. And if dresses arent your thing, fear not! A well-fitted jumpsuit or a chic pantsuit can be equally stunning. The key? Go for pieces that flatter your figure and make you feel like the best version of yourself.

Deciphering the Dress Code. Navigating the world of cocktail attire doesnt have to be a puzzle. Its all about balance. Dresses? Midi is the magic word. Too short might veer into casual territory, and too long could edge into formal gala attire. Colors and prints? Have fun but think elegance — bold can be beautiful if balanced right. Can I wear shorts to Napa?

Shorts are definitely okay for men and women. Jeans and T-shirts are also cool. What you wear wine tasting really is up to you!

We strongly suggest wearing sunglasses. Theres a good chance one or two tastings will be held outdoors weather permitting. Youll also have free time for lunch and to walk around a Wine Country town, so sunglasses will come in handy.

Please wear comfortable shoes. Wed hate for you to miss out on an extra pour in a vineyard while the wine server is telling the group about what makes their wine the best.

  • We got married in napa, we eloped so no family at all just us and we used a company called “run away with me” based in napa I believe, and they were great. We live in Florida so I was nervous planning it long distance. We got married at Beringer, under the red woods. I would recommend hiring a wedding planner now to help you… they have so many contacts and it will make the process less stressful. You don’t have to have the venue first before you have a wedding planner just FYI 😋 PS we went to the spa at auburge du soliel and OMG it was such an amazing venue.

  • Venue recs: Cielo farms – not SO much garden but 100% tuscany vibes Kestrel park – has some garden vibes for sure!! hugggge grounds and fields around so super private Cal a Vie Spa – european/garden Villa del sol d’oro – literally italy in socal Dos Pueblos Orchid farm – not necessarily european vibes but deffffff garden vibes!

  • Y’all need to check out Carneros resort!! My sister just got married there in June and it’s SO beautiful and magical! All the perks of a hotel but it was so private. The staff is amazing, food, and the venue itself is stunning. The hotel rooms are also similar to Solage where they’re all like cottages and the whole property is super similar aesthetic!! Grew up in the Bay Area going to Solage and Napa and we absolutely loved it❤️

  • I am currently planning my Wedding in Canada and I literally just feel like you! Everyone always just posts the happy things about wedding planning, so in the beginning I was super stressed out like is there something wrong with me that I feel like this? So you are definitely not alone in these feelings❤️

  • I would elope in Europe in 2024 and have a California reception in fall or even 2025. Check out Cavallo point in Sausalito or even venues in Paso Robles. Maybe Napa isn’t the right place . Also, be prepared to go way over budget. Once they know it’s a Wedding they gouge you. Just in the last week of invoices there was an additional $10,000 + we weren’t expecting. Best of luck finding a venue and wedding planning 💛

  • I’m a wedding coordinator and highly recommend shuttle services for our ceremonies! It does seem like an extra logistical nightmare but it just comes down to the communication with your planner and the transportation company. If offers a safe and fun way to get your guests to the venue. Up to you guys though, obviously. 😊

  • Loved this article and love you guys!! I’m from San Jose, CA and have had my eye out on this specific venue for my future wedding hopefully someday😂! Its called the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga,CA. It’s giving the garden/european wedding vibes just thought I would share with you guys in case you guys want to check it out! I’ve also seen some venues in the Santa Cruz mountains that also look beautiful and you guys might want to look into! So excited for all the wedding related articles to come❤

  • So my uncle got married in napa last weekend in September in 2022. We had the BEST time ever. The only thing I would consider if you do fall is how cold it gets! It was beautiful during the day and warm but at night time the weather drops drastically and not everyone came prepared with jackets so they had to go and buy blankets for people to grab while during the reception/dancing part lol. Granite they didn’t have heaters bc they were trying to charge $700 a pop. But just something to consider is it gets cold at night! But we still had soooo much fun

  • It makes me sad how Northern Americans can’t help but compare our land to Europe. If we were as curious about our own land as we are about “trendy” land, we might decide to recover and renew the heritage areas that exist around here. I realize it’s a “long goal” but there’s so much to appreciate here, it’s hard to watch someone be so critical of a place as beautiful as Napa Valley.
