What To Wear To A Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Female?

The rehearsal dinner attire should reflect the bride’s personal style and individual taste, as it is an event where she can truly express herself. To find the appropriate dress code for a rehearsal dinner, check the invitation and consider the theme or dress code. Cotton and linen are more appropriate for casual events, while richer or heavier fabrics like velvet or satin are better for more formal events.

For beach or garden weddings, men can wear a linen shirt with dress shorts or khakis, while women can wear a sundress or maxi dress with comfortable sandals. For more formal outdoor rehearsal dinners, men can wear a lightweight suit or a blazer with dress pants.

Don’t wear anything too stiff, as a rehearsal dinner is a romantic event and what you wear should reflect that in some way. Add an element of romance with a ruffle, and consider wearing white tie, black tie, floor-length gowns, suits and ties, black tie optional, mid-length dresses and suits, outdoor formal, cocktail, or cocktail dress.

Modest attire is more common for rehearsal dinners, with guests being more likely to make a statement. Dress styles can range from cocktail dresses to more fashion-forward options like jumpsuits, silk suits, or flowing maxi dresses. Avoid sundresses, unless it’s a daytime event.

Rehearsal dinner outfits for women include a sleek two-piece suit, midi dress or evening gown, and classic cocktail dress. Choose deep, rich colors like maroon and burgundy, navy blue, moss green, and burnt orange, and avoid overly saturated colors, extreme brights, and overly saturated colors.

Look for fabrics like silk, chiffon, or lace that allow for easy movement and breathability, and mini and cocktail-length dresses are also suitable.

What is the purpose of a rehearsal dinner?

What is the Purpose of the Rehearsal Dinner?. The purpose of the rehearsal dinner is to show hospitality to the wedding party and out-of-town guests. This is a time for the two families to meet and enjoy each others company.

It is most commonly held the night before the wedding day after running through the wedding rehearsal. In some cases, couples opt to have the rehearsal dinner two days before the event in order for people to recover, but this isnt always convenient if you have a significant amount of out-of-town guests.

Does It Have to Be a Dinner?. Not at all. Rehearsal brunch, lunch, etc. All of those options are valid and common. The idea behind the rehearsal dinner is to feed the people in your wedding party (often just after the wedding rehearsal/walk-through) as well as any out-of-town guests, which are most likely extended family.

In some cases, the rehearsal and the dinner or meal have to be scheduled separately. While its preferable to do them together, dont feel forced into anything. Each couple and their family have a unique circumstance. The heart of the tradition is about being together, sharing your hospitality, and a special moment before the wedding.

Is it inappropriate to wear black to a rehearsal dinner?

When in doubt, a black cocktail dress works in all four seasons.

A great rule of thumb is to remember that the rehearsal dinner will typically never be more formal or fancy than the wedding itself. Use that as a measuring stick to help guide your outfit selection.”Rehearsal dinners tend to be a more relaxed version of the actual wedding, but its still a fun time to show off your personal style,” says Warten.

And as with all events, you should avoid wearing anything that will make you uncomfortable. You dont want to be pulling and tugging on your outfit, especially if youre standing up to give a speech. “Pick an outfit formula that is true to your style and silhouette which will make you look and feel confident,” says Warten.

Rehearsal Dinner Attire For Men and Women. Once youve got a good idea of the dress code based on the invitation, its time to start shopping. Do you wear a suit to a wedding rehearsal dinner?

Unless youve been specifically told otherwise, assume a wedding rehearsal is, at minimum, a business casual event. Dress slacks or khakis and a collared shirt (polo or button down) should be the least formal you dress. Without asking the bride or groom, there are a couple ways to know if you should wear a tie, jacket or suit to a wedding rehearsal.

  • Is the actual wedding a black tie event? If the wedding invitation specifies that its black tie, its likely the wedding rehearsal will be more formal as well. Opt for a black, gray or navy suit, collared shirt and tie.
  • Where is the rehearsal dinner? The location of the rehearsal dinner is really the key factor in deciding what you should wear. If its at a restaurant, look up the dress code and dress accordingly. (Even it the dress code is casual, at minimum still wear khakis and a collared shirt.) If its at a private location, like a country club, you can usually find a dress code online, but many country clubs require men to wear a jacket.

If youre still worried of being over or underdressed, there are a couple things you can do. Ask the bride or groom for their input. (Really, its ok!) Or, be prepared for any occasion by dressing in separates. Wear tan slacks and a button down dress shirt. Bring with a necktie in a classic dark color (navy, burgundy or gray are our favorites) and a dark sport coat. If you arrive to the wedding rehearsal and see that a collared shirt and slacks wont cut it, put on the tie and coat for a dressier look.

Make a Schedule. Traditionally, the ceremony is practiced before the meal and mingling. Then, guests are wined-and-dined atformal sit-down dinner, funded by the grooms parents. However, at modern day rehearsal dinners,it holds true that anything goes. Short-and-sweet or long-and-indulgent, the type of gathering you want is solely up to you. There are also customs, such astoasts, speeches and game playing, that you can add to mix up your dinner itinerary, making this one of the more enjoyable events for the bride.

Practice “I do”. From walking to wedding party placement, practicing “I do” is crucial to working out last minute kinks and making sure everyone is on the same page. Typically, ceremony rehearsals require about an hour. Tell your guests to arrive 30-minutes before the actual time that they need to show up. Nevertheless, there is always onelate straggler in every wedding party.

Also, give yourself and your rehearsal guests plenty of time to leave the practice run and get to dinner from the ceremony venue. Although it may not be possible to accommodate all schedules, do try to be considerate of your out-of-town arrivals and those whohave to work.

Do you bring a gift to a rehearsal dinner?

Its Not Common…. While its quite common for the bride and groom to bring gifts to the rehearsal dinner (which theyll distribute to their parents and their wedding party), its unusual to see guests arrive with a gift in hand, as well. Pre-wedding events are focused on the bride and groom, and since this event isnt one that usually requires a gift for the happy couple, most people dont even consider bringing something to thank the hosts for their hospitality, and doing so definitely isnt required.

…But, It Wouldnt Hurt. Of course, theres nothing wrong with a little host or hostess gift as a symbol of your appreciation. The hosts are, of course, generously paying for a celebration in honor of the couple and have invited others to join them (whether its just the wedding party, out-of-town guests, or everyone who is invited to the wedding). You could keep it simple with a card, or opt for something that you might bring as a hostess gift to someones home, like a bottle of wine, chocolates, or a pretty candle.

Keep the gift on the small side, especially if youre at a destination wedding: The hosts will need to be able to bring it home, after all.

How fancy are rehearsal dinners?

What is a Rehearsal Dinner. The rehearsal dinner serves as a dinner following your ceremony rehearsal. It can be casual or incredibly fancy – your choice! Some couples have opted to skip the ceremony altogether but are still having a “rehearsal” dinner. Technically this might be more of a welcome dinner, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

During the rehearsal dinner, a few toasts may be given and often they are pretty spontaneous – sort of like an open mic night. Dont fret too much about having a timeline for the rehearsal dinner unless you have hired live event entertainers on a set schedule.

Who is Invited to the Rehearsal Dinner. Definitely your immediate families, the wedding party (bridesmaids/groomsmen), parents of the flower girl and ring bearer if you have those, anybody participating in the ceremony such as readers, singers, and the officiant. Essentially anybody participating in the ceremony and their spouses.
