What To Wear To A Wedding Rehearsal Men?

Men’s attire for a wedding rehearsal is not as straightforward as a wedding, but it is essential to look sharp the night before. For beach or garden weddings, men can wear a linen shirt with dress shorts or khakis, while women can wear a sundress or maxi dress with comfortable sandals. For semi-formal rehearsal dinners, men should wear jackets, suit pants (or slacks), and ties, while women should wear cocktail dresses or pantsuits or dressy skirts and blouses.

For casual rehearsal dinners, there is a range of chic styles for both men and women to wear. Wedding themes can range from rustic to beachy to glamorous, and it is essential to choose attire that complements the couple’s personality. For a rustic or outdoor wedding, men can wear a linen suit, while women can wear a flowy sundress. Beach weddings call for lightweight fabrics and bright colors.

Casual wedding dress codes allow men to dress down, so options like chinos or dress pants are recommended. A nice suit is great for a rehearsal-dinner look, and you can play with colors and patterns to suit your personality and add boldness for photos. For guests, a casual suit and tie can be worn, and clean lines, a tuxedo, or a dark suit with a bow tie are essential accessories. The most important accessory is your confidence, and you should always wear the right pieces to ensure a comfortable and memorable rehearsal dinner.

What do guys wear to a wedding rehearsal?

If youre still worried of being over or underdressed, there are a couple things you can do. Ask the bride or groom for their input. (Really, its ok!) Or, be prepared for any occasion by dressing in separates. Wear tan slacks and a button down dress shirt. Bring with a necktie in a classic dark color (navy, burgundy or gray are our favorites) and a dark sport coat. If you arrive to the wedding rehearsal and see that a collared shirt and slacks wont cut it, put on the tie and coat for a dressier look.

One thing we cant stress enough for groomsmen is to not wear the wedding colors to rehearsal, especially any items youll be wearing in the wedding. At a rehearsal dinner, the colors and any theme are still a bit of a surprise for the wedding guests, some of whom may be in attendance. Its okay for the bride and groom to wear the wedding colors if they choose, but steer clear of it yourself.

Much of the same advice for groomsmen applies to all other male guests at a wedding rehearsal. At minimum, wear a collared shirt and dress pants or khakis, and then do your research based on the location to see if you should add a necktie and/or jacket. Its best to stick to more neutral colors, too. Just like we advise groomsmen, dont wear what you think is the wedding color; thats reserved for the wedding party on the big day. Its not necessary to ask the bride or groom about attire if youre not part of the wedding party or immediate family. Use your best judgement, dont wear the wedding color and what you wear will be fine.

Is there a dress code for a wedding rehearsal?

How formal should my attire be compared to the actual wedding day?. The rehearsal dinner will never be more formal than the wedding itself. Some wedding parties may want to do a full simulation with guests looking as they will at the wedding, which means matching the attire style youve chosen for the big event. But usually, youll wear something a little less formal.

A Quick Checklist for Mens Rehearsal Dinner Attire. So, you think youve picked out some appropriate wedding dress rehearsal attire but you want to make absolutely sure youre going in the right direction. Run the outfit past this checklist to catch yourself before you make any mistakes:

  • Do your clothes match the dress code stated on the rehearsal dinner invitation?
  • Will you feel comfortable in these clothes while inside the venue the bride and groom have chosen?
  • If in doubt, err on the side of dressy, ideally with items that you can take off (such as suit jackets and ties) if you end up overdressed.
  • Be subtle when accessorizing, assuming you accessorize at all.

What not to wear to a wedding rehearsal?

Avoid anything too sexy, dont wear flashy materials like sequins, and just generally try not to make the night about anyone but the couple.

What do you wear to a wedding rehearsal as a guest?

For most rehearsal dinners, a cocktail dress is a no-brainer, fool-proof option. Cocktail attire is formal enough to suit almost any formal occasion, but wont make you feel overdressed if the event happens to be more casual.

What not to wear to a wedding rehearsal dinner?

Going Too Casual: Even if its a casual event, try not to wear jeans. Sometimes, jeans are totally appropriate (BBQ rehearsal dinner, anyone?) but usually its not a good idea. Similarly, dont wear t-shirts, loungewear, athletic clothes, or anything you might feel comfortable wearing to the grocery store.

What do you wear to a rehearsal practice?

10. REHEARSAL OUTFIT “BLACKS”. Your character should be bold and colorful, not your rehearsal outfits. Come to rehearsal ready to wear your “rehearsal blacks”. This means dark-colored clothing that is very easy to move in. Definitely not jeans, dresses, or clothing that would impair your movement unless the director has specifically requested you do so.

What to wear at a wedding rehearsal as a guest?

The dress code is all dependent on what the couple requests, but as a rule of thumb, its always best to dress in something formal or semi-formal. For instance, if the pre-wedding festivities are being held in an outdoor garden, a flowy floral dress is the perfect option.

A halter-neck style dress with a waist-cinching smocked bodice and asymmetrical hemline perfect for channeling your inner Greek goddess. Wear with strappy metallic heels and statement drop earrings to tie the look together.

The gorgeous floral frock—with a sweetheart neckline, smocked bodice, and tie straps—is perfect for spring and summer rehearsal dinners, but its also ideal for dinner dates, getaways, and picnics in the park.

Simple and understated is always a good idea. And the great thing about this smocked number is its versatility. You can wear it during the daytime with a chic cardigan or you can drop the straps off the shoulder for more a formal-friendly look—either way, youll look stunning.

What do people wear to wedding rehearsals?

Things to Consider When Choosing Rehearsal Dinner Attire. 1. Consider the location.. Before picking a rehearsal dinner outfit, youll want to consider the setting. Oftentimes, especially for destination weddings, couples are looking to infuse elements of the locale into their events. Couples who go out of their way to consider these types of details are hoping that their guest indulge and participate. You can also fill in a lot of blanks if you do a quick Google search of the location, Lori Conley says, general merchandising manager at BHLDN / Anthropologie Weddings. What if theres no explicit dress code and youre unsure about the vibe of the venue? If no formality is specified, stick to semi-formal/cocktail attire for a rehearsal dinner no matter the day or venue type. Simply set aside your denim for the post-wedding brunch and save the ball gown for a black-tie event where its required, says Blaire Walsh, style director of Rent the Runway.

2. Err on the side of dressy.. When in doubt, experts say its always better to lean towards a more formal rehearsal dinner outfit. My advice is that its always better to be overdressed than underdressed, Walsh says. Keep in mind that you are going out to socialize and celebrate loved ones so bring your A-game and lean towards styles that are fun, festive, and seasonally appropriate. There are certain items of clothing that should be considered off-limits for a rehearsal dinner. Never be the guest that is too casual—jeans are off the list, as are sneakers. Its always better to opt for a tad too dressed up than to look sloppy, Conley says.

3. Dont forget to accessorize.. Fun accessories can take a closet staple such as a jumpsuit or a little black dress to the next level. Accessories can also help pull together the perfect look. Have fun with a bold earring or bracelet stack since you may have a more pared-down look for the wedding itself, Conley says. Adding the right jewelry can give your rehearsal dinner outfit a more formal or playful vibe depending on how you decide to accessorize.

Should men always wear a suit to a wedding?

Never doubt the navy suit. A suit is always a foolproof option for a wedding. Since the groom is usually wearing a tuxedo or a black suit, youll want to stray away from these super-formal styles. (Let him shine!) Instead, a classic dark navy suit—either single- or double-breasted—will always look elegant and appropriate. Pair it with a white button-up shirt, and black or brown dress shoes. If the wedding venue is outdoors, consider a suit in a lighter fabric (like linen or cotton) to offset the darker colorway. Yes, it will be slightly toasty under the sun: Suck it up, the days not about you.

Go light and bright. If youre worried that a navy suit will be too heavy on the special day, there are lighter, airier suiting options. A breezy seersucker suit will always be a timeless option for a wedding, especially if its by the water. An olive or sage green is another contender. A tan or khaki suit, in linen or cotton, is also an excellent option—just make sure the neutral tone is complementary to your skin tone. All of these can be paired with a crisp white button-up shirt: a wedding must.

What is appropriate to wear to a wedding as a male guest?

By the way, a formal wedding is a dress code, not merely a description. A tux is still a fantastic choice here, but its a little bit less formal than a black-tie event. Its also the best bet for what men should wear to a wedding with no stated dress code. Tuxedos are optional, but they will expect a full formal suit at the very least. Not sure if its formal? If the women are still planning on long dresses, assume its formal.

A wide variety of weddings could be formal, but they typically lean towards traditional. Its unlikely youll find an offbeat bride or quirky couple throwing a full formal wedding (but again, rather check than assume). Think receptions in the early evening or late afternoon and formal settings like hotels, halls, and ‘wedding venues. The ceremony is probably indoors and probably in a traditional chapel-like venue too.

What Do Men Wear to a Formal Wedding?. Pick a dark, but not black, suit. 2-piece is ok, but a 3-piece is very suitable too. Charcoal, navy, gray, and midnight blue are fantastic. Use a collared dress shirt. White shirts are a safe choice. You can use colors, textures, and patterns, however. Pinstripe, or a lovely pastel, can add some personality. You can wear a bow tie or choose a smart necktie. No novelty ones, though!

So in a more formal type wedding, the groom and hus groomsmen might well wear tuxedos. In a less formal type wedding, they may wear suits or even less formal wear depending on what has been decided by the bride in the planning stages.
