This comprehensive guide provides tips on maintaining grooming equipment, including clippers, combs, and blades. It emphasizes the importance of proper maintenance to prevent issues such as poor clipper function, slower grooms, uneven cutting, and costly repairs. To maintain your grooming supplies, follow these steps:
1. Clean your clippers and blades regularly, removing old ones and blowing out debris. Insert new blade drives and replace screws when necessary.
2. Adjust the tension of your scissors by testing the tension by holding them by the thumb ring with your left hand and opening the blades to a 45-degree angle.
3. Brush your husky’s coat regularly, using shampoo and conditioner, a shammy or cloth to wash the dog’s face, and ear wipes or an ear cleaning solution.
4. Use a sturdy brush for your cat’s coat, especially if they have long hair. Show respect to your groomers and avoid damaging their hard work.
5. Maintain the correct temperature for trail grooming, between 23º F and -5º F (-5ºC). Bleach should be used in moderation, as higher concentrations can cause paw burn and lung damage.
6. Choose clipper blades with various lengths, as some dogs require shorter or longer coats. Choose blades that can be re-sharpened and are suitable for different breeds.
7. Brush double-coated dogs regularly to remove dead hair and promote healthy growth. If your dog has a double coat, use a deshedder before brushing.
8. Clean your tools with a dog-friendly sanitizer to remove build-up and prevent damage.
9. Regularly clean and maintain grooming equipment to prevent rust, corrosion, and other forms of damage that can shorten its lifespan. Oiling dog grooming equipment can also help prolong its lifespan and performance.

How to store grooming scissors?
Tip 4. Storing your dog grooming scissors safely.. To store clean dog grooming scissors, firstly you must ensure that each pair of scissors is closed and keep them in an area where it is dry, out of the sunlight (when we have sunshine) and somewhere safe. I would also advise to cover the scissors with either a dry towel or sheet. This will keep any stray dog hairs, dust and moisture, away from your precious dog grooming scissors.
Tip 5. Ensure your dog grooming scissors are sharpened.. To maintain a dog grooming scissors performance, ensuring that the scissor is serviced and sharpened, it vital. All dog groomingscissors are given an extremely sharp edge at the point of manufacture. This sharp edge will naturally blunt over time. However, there are a number of factors which can cause dog grooming scissors to blunt quickly. Having your dog grooming scissors serviced and sharp will maintain your scissors longevity and keep your scissors performing at their best. How to clean a grooming table?
Look after your table well to extend its lifetime. Poor care can significantly shorten a tables life, especially for electric models (motors and fur dont mix – same with clippers and dryers). At the end of every day, blow or brush all fur off the table-top, wipe it clean and dry it. Take extra care to blow or brush out fur from under and around table legs, the motor and pedals, especially around any moving parts to reduce the fur entering the mechanics.Wipe and keep the table dry to avoid rust or stains, paying attention to any stainless-steel parts such as the grooming arm (stainless steel is rust resistant, not rust proof). For hydraulic and electric tables, return them to their lowest position at the end of every day, or when being stored for longer periods.

How do you clean grooming blades?
Cleaning blades thoroughly should be done after each dog. To avoid doing this during grooming time, keep several of each blade length on hand and put them aside once used, and pick up a fresh one. Clean them all at days end. Put newspaper or paper towels on your table or a counter, put all the blades you used on it. Grab a 16 ounce jar of blade cleaner – there are several kinds to choose from and all seem to work well in my experience. Clean excess debris from blades with a toothbrush or similar tool and put the blade on a clipper. With the clipper running immerse only the teeth of the blade into the liquid and run for 10-20 seconds. Lift out, wipe blade (unless instructions say it requires a longer contact time), lay down on newspaper or paper towel. Hold clipper in a downward position – if blade cleaner should get into the housing which is possible on some models, it will NOT go well for the clipper. Do next blade. When all are done, they should be wiped again and oiled. While many of the blade wash products do provide some lubrication, the viscosity is different than blade oil and cant be counted on to lubricate correctly. Since the blade is off the clipper you can do a more thorough job oiling. Pick the blade up and slide the cutter 2/3 of the way out from under the tension spring (the humped metal piece that holds it in place) and place a drop of oil on the cutter and on the comb blade, on the inside where theyll meet. Push the cutter 2/3 of the way out the other way and repeat the two drops of oil. Push the cutter back into place – now much easier since its lubricated. Be careful not to push the cutter all the way out, it isnt easy to get it back in again.
Its much faster to keep several sets of the same blade lengths in use so that you use a blade on one dog and then put it aside for cleaning later, but another method is to use one of the blade cleaning product in a spray form, such as Andis Blade Care or Top Performance Extend-a-Life. Spray on the blade while running, wipe, oil all with the clipper running (and pointed downward).
Expending a little time and a few inexpensive products can mean easier, faster clipping for you, safety for your four legged clients and reassurance to your two legged clients that their pet is in good, caring hands.

Storage containers are really handy, as you can easily group things together. For items like clipper blades, a hard case is a great way to keep them damp free and organised. For your clippers the hard case is a great sturdy box that keeps your clippers secure.
Dont worry youre nearly there! Its time to store your clipping equipment away. But before throwing everything into the most convenient empty space, consider using some form of storage. This will help you keep everything organised, which might not feel like a priority but youll appreciate it when youre preparing for your next clip.
Were just mentioned about keeping everything hair free, but we cant emphasise enough how important it is. If you dont youll be greeted by a clipper and blades that you wont be able to use straight away because of corrosion. Clippers that arent cleaned after use will attract moisture. Moisture and hair determinates the clipper armature and motor. So, before storing your clipping equipment away, make sure the filter, clipper head and clipper blades are clean and dry.

📹 The Best Way to De-Shed Your Dog’s Hair
Do not use dog shedding tools DO THIS INSTEAD! You will never look at dog de-shedding tools the same way after learning the …
You could just see the moment she realized that they didn’t hurt her but took all the pain and burden away from her. She immediately changed her demeanor and was so happy. Her whole body just brightened up. I bet she enjoyed every nail trim after that as I’m sure it’s one of the best memories she has.
I’m a 64 yr old man who has loved animals my whole life, particularly horses and I am in tears. Bless you for rescuing little Stella and her friends. Getting her the care she desperately needed and bless the patient, caring, wonderful farrier who fixed her hooves. A new life for these precious animals. 🥰
How can any person leave their animal to get into such an outrageous condition is absolutely beyond comprehension !!! Thanks for giving Stella a happy home and the care she deserves… . I am so happy that Stella showed you her appreciation through her playfulness and happy spirit ! You are truly an earth angel ❣️
I bet that farrier must have felt such a sense of accomplishment after all that hard work. There’s something so special about knowing that you’ve made a profound difference for the better in a neglected/abused animal’s life. Same for Stella’s new “mom.” So yeah, Stella, run! And prance, and high-kick, and…do all the things that happy horses get to do.
A beautiful story of the joy horses get from running, like dogs are born to run so are horses, to see her unbridled (pun not intended) happiness expressed through going for a gallop is beautiful, she was lucky her feet weren’t deformed by the crazy length of those hooves. I reckon I would have gotten a little teary if I witnessed that first hand.
It’s so true that animals know when you’re helping them. I groomed dogs for many years, and occasionally we would have a severely matted/neglected cat or dog come in. They just would sit/lay there and look dejected, and let you do whatever you needed. Once they were done though? It was amazing to see the transformation of their personality. For dogs, Usually giving kisses, running around, barking a little bit and generally upbeat. For cats, just rubbing their head against you before they happily went back into their kitty carriers.
o my god to see her bombing up & down like a mad thing with joy in every fibre of her being made me forget how cruelly she’d been treated before. no excuses for outright neglect but i’m happy that beautiful pony was hooked up with such a sensitive farrier & others, so thank you for your remedial treatment & obvious kindness.
I love these types of articles. I love all animals so much and hate it when they are mistreated. Animals have such amazing personalities and you could see her personality come out after her hooves got fixed. I’m so grateful for people who rescue and save animals. It makes me shed tears of happiness to see this.
Thank you sooooooo much for changing Stella’s life. You made her life so much better and she’s free from the pain & discomfort of being neglected. She no longer carries such a heavy burden in her heart. Praise God for rescuers like you and for the miraculous work that farriers do. I have ALL the respect in the world for Farriers, because we need out feet to get around, and when they are painful, it makes life very difficult. Thank you a million times!!!!!!!!
Our farrier told us of a horse who had hooves almost as bad as this darling baby. He said it took a long time to trim off all that hoof overgrowth. He said once he was done the horse was so happy he ran around the coral for over an hour and finally collapsed into a good sleep. It really gives the animal their life back. I noticed the happy smile on her face. They really do smile when they’re happy. God bless you for helping this beaufiful baby.
Having rescue ponies myself where they now get their feet done regularly every 2-3months, seeing the state of poor Stella in the beginning of this article is just 💔 Stella was hesitant at first which due to her severe neglect is fully understandable but with the time & patience & care from the rescuers & farrier there, to see Stella running about afterwards so happy & playing was just wonderful & I’m not surprised the rescuers were crying because so was I & I’m sure I’m not the only one who cried whilst perusal this article❤🐎❤
What a compassionate story in every way! I love the respect that you give for the owner’s situation (until you’ve been there you never know what it’s like). I went on many trips with my ex to comfort horses while he took care of their hooves. He often got fresh eggs, garden produce, etc. instead of cash. Once I asked why he didn’t just take someone else with them and he said, “The horses trust you and I do too”. Beautiful work on those hooves! I am so happy her feet were good! Stella is so responsive when she gets her next visit! You know she knew her part. Love her braids too! 🥰
Wowthis Wasson touching and wonderful! I cried tears of sadness the inwas so happy to see her awesome transformation. She was beaten down in the beginning and at theend she was so relieved of her pain and was a whole new pony . Thanks to all m that was instrumental in her transformation! You all give this cruel word hope in humanity!
Absolutely brought me to my knees to see what this poor little girl been going through all my goodness! You are incredible people the wonderful work you do. Thank you is such a small mention for all that you are you did such a wonderful job of course. God blesses you every day. As you know the best gift is perusal Stella be free and running like she’s always dreamed of absolutely precious beyond words. ❤🐾💋🐾
Thank you for saving Stella, for loving her and for giving her a loving, safe home. I hope you are her home forever. For the first time, she is happy. An incredible article. I don’t care how much older people have trouble, they need to ask for help and not abuse animals this way. Unforgiveable. I can’t believe relatives or neighbors or the postman that nobody saw this. You are Stella’s guardian angel.
