How old is the movie The Wedding Planner?
The Wedding Planner is a 2001 American romantic comedy film directed by Adam Shankman, in his feature film directorial debut, written by Michael Ellis and Pamela Falk, starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey.
Plotedit. Ambitious San Francisco wedding planner Mary Fiore is re-introduced to childhood acquaintance Massimo by her father Salvatore, who wants them to marry, but Mary declines. Hoping to persuade her boss, Geri, to make her a partner at their company, Mary is hired to plan catering heiress Fran Donollys society wedding to long-term boyfriend Eddie. While reporting her success on the phone, Marys shoe heel gets stuck in a manhole cover. As she struggles to free herself, a taxicab collides with a dumpster that comes hurtling towards her. A nearby man pulls her out of the way of the speeding dumpster just in time, and she manages to thank him before fainting.
Waking up in the hospital, Mary meets her rescuer, pediatrician Steve Edison. Her colleague Penny persuades Steve to attend an outdoor movie with them, but makes up an excuse to leave the pair alone together. Mary and Steve dance but are interrupted by a heavy downpour before they can kiss.

A guilty pleasure. Yes, it is a chick-flick but it is a real pleasure. McConaughey is as sexy as Ive ever seen him and Lopez is really funny, handling the bumbling pratfall humor very well.
This is a cute story. But what really makes a good romantic comedy in my eyes is the chemistry between the lead actors and these two have it in spades! Id like to see them together again. Better chemistry than Roberts and Gere or Roberts and Pitt.

Was The Wedding Planner a good movie?
The Wedding Planner is a disappointing would-be romantic comedy — neither comic nor particularly romantic. Its biggest problem is a sitcom-style script with too much emphasis on the situation and not enough on the comedy. It fails to create a single believable or sympathetic character.
A Lot or a Little?. What you will—and wont—find in this movie.
Jennifer Lopez plays Mary, THE WEDDING PLANNER who is so organized that she has all the essentials strapped to her belt, including smelling salts and superglue. She is also so cynical that she can predict the length of the marriage based on the song selected by the couple. Mary is supremely competent and confident at work, negotiating for a partnership in the firm if she can land an assignment for a dot-com zillionaire bride Fran (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras). Matthew McConaughey plays Steve, a pediatrician who saves Mary from an onrushing dumpster. They go out with Marys friend for a movie and a dance under the stars, and Mary is smitten. Then she discovers that Steve is Frans groom-to-be. Meanwhile, Marys father (Alex Rocco) is trying to fix her up with a horrendous loser from the homeland.
Families can talk about the way films and TV portray weddings and marriage. Why is so much attention placed on weddings? Is it the romance behind it? The money spent on it? Why doesnt the media focus more on what happens after the wedding and honeymoon is over?
What were weddings like in the 1920s?
Many receptions were simple but elegant. Though some did choose church or courthouse weddings, couples in the 1920s often got married at home, and little could compare to the beauty of a quaint, romantic backyard wedding.
The 1920s were a time of celebration and nothing was done halfway. At the end of the war in 1918, many women were reunited with their loves and desperate to start their lives together. Some lost their husbands in the war and were getting remarried. No matter what brought the bride to this significant day- every detail of the wedding made a statement- from her bouquet to her headdress. The bouquets were colorful and oversized to stand out as much as possible and the headdresses caught everyones attention when the bride walked into the room.
Some brides chose traditional white wedding dresses while others chose to stand out with a color other than white. Those who were getting married for the second time were sometimes even less traditional, choosing a party dress or adding a feather boa to their wedding day attire. Lower necklines on wedding dresses and intricate details such as beading grew in popularity.
Brides could purchase their dresses in a department store or visit one of the specialty bridal shops that were popping up all over. This particular bride chose a slip-lace dress with a sequinned headband. Different headpieces were common for brides in the 1920s and ranged from beaded headbands to cloche hats, depending on the style of the bride.
When did the wedding tradition start?
Have you ever been a flower girl, a bridesmaid, or caught the bouquet at a friends wedding? All these customs are expected at modern weddings, but these wedding traditions date back to ancient times. Since the origin of marriage about 23,000 years ago, different cultures have created their own wedding customs. Many of these customs have stood the test of time and have evolved into the wedding traditions we are familiar with today.
A lot of these traditions began in ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece. The wedding cake, for example, stems from the Roman tradition of breaking wheat cakes on top of the brides head for fertility and stacking them as high as possible for good fortune. Weve compiled a visual of 16 popular wedding traditions and their origins, so you can learn more about how these common customs came to be.
Whether youre planning your wedding ceremony and reception, attending one soon, or just want to learn more about the history of marriage, youre sure to be surprised by how much these wedding traditions have changed since theyve originated! Although traditions play an important role, history has shown us that its okay to get a little creative when it comes to planning your special day.
The origin of marriage dates back to 23,000 years ago when hunter-gatherers became farmers, and gender roles around the household started to form. Males became responsible for gathering food, while females stayed at home to rear children. Thus, marriage soon became necessary as a way to ensure the survival of their offspring.
