When Marriage Is Hard Christian?

Marriage is a sacred bond between two individuals, and it is not meant to be a source of isolation, abuse, or divorce. However, the Bible teaches that it is not meant to be broken, as it is designed to be a source of blessing and happiness. When marriage gets difficult, it can be fearful, as it represents the unknown and exposes weaknesses in each individual. However, God has the power to restore even the most broken relationships.

When a husband and wife begin their marriage, they should trust in God’s will for peace and understanding, keep Jesus at the center of their relationship, and hold their tongue until God has a hold on their heart. True love doesn’t happen by accident, and marriage is designed to glorify God.

When marriage gets hard, it is important to remember that two are better than one, and when you fall, you have each other to help you up again. The Bible emphasizes the importance of the power of two and how strong your marriage will be when it’s threefold – you, him.

Counseling can help couples with decision-making processes, and research published in 2020 revealed the most frequently given reasons for divorce from a sample of over 2,000 people. One of the top reasons why marriage is hard work is because both partners have to work on building trust and ensuring it won’t be broken.

In a difficult marriage, God may bring relief through an outside occupation or a special calling, and He may use our hurts to minister to others who suffer. It is essential to reject the “right person” myth and seek out counseling, as intentional hard work is required in order to maintain a healthy marriage.

Why did God allow my marriage to end?

We are with God. God wants to save all marriages, but allows divorce for those whose spouse won’t repent. God is always trying to get our attention so we can learn about His love, grace, forgiveness, and mercy. That never changes.

People often ignore God in marriage. Both must want the marriage to work. Both must invest energy, time, and grace. Even if you and your spouse believe in God, your spouse must choose the marriage over themselves for it to succeed.

There’s always hope for reconciliation as long as both spouses are not married to anyone else. I’ve seen and heard many stories of marriages being saved, so I don’t believe it’s impossible. Even if a couple is divorced, they can get back together if they’re both still single.

Is it selfish to leave an unhappy marriage?

As experienced family lawyers, we field these questions all the time. And we can sincerely say that wanting out of an unhappy marriage is not selfish. It is one of the single bravest acts a person can take, but unfortunately, it is often riddled with shame.

Well walk you through the most common reasons people stay, how to know when its time to leave, and how to divorce without losing yourself in the process.

Why Do People Stay in Unhappy Marriages?. There are many reasons why people choose to remain in marriages they find unfulfilling. Some stay because they still feel an obligation to the commitment they made and cant let go of that loyalty or sense of failure if the relationship ends.

What does the Bible say about marriage being hard?

Constant Conflict – (Ephesians 5:33) “If your marriage is filled with conflict, dont give up.” This scripture instructs a husband to love his wife as he loves himself and that his wife must respect him. If your marriage is filled with conflict, dont give up.

As someone in his 22nd year of marriage, I can testify to this: There are no perfect marriages and no perfect people. In a marriage that works, you will find two people who have many stories to tell of trials they’ve endured and choices they made not to give up on each other. In my own marriage, I have given my wife ample opportunities to choose to move forward with me, and although not in as great a quantity, she has given me opportunities, too.

But the reason our marriage is a success is not because of perfection. It’s a success because when it has been broken, we each decided our union is greater than either of us on our own. We decided, inspired by our faith, to work on our relationship. You can do that, too. When your marriage is broken, you can start by using these 10 Bible verses for broken marriages.

1. Lack of Commitment to the Marriage – (Proverbs 18:22). Several years ago, in the midst of a midlife crisis, God impressed upon me that he had provided everything I need in my wife. Put into that perspective—that your wife is a tremendous blessing from the Lord in every way. Knowing that, a man can pour his whole heart into committing to being all she needs him to be, too.

What reasons does God give for divorce?

Four Grounds for a Christian to DivorceAdultery. Adultery is one breakdown Jesus specifically mentions. … Addiction. Without treatment, addiction will consume everything in its path. … Abuse. Most often, we think of physical abuse. … Abandonment. Finally, brokenness can be a result of abandonment.

Divorce may be an accepted fact of life in our culture, but for many Christians in broken marriages it presents a moral dilemma. Do they stay in an unhealthy, perhaps even harmful marriage for the sake of a vow and covenant? Or do they act against their beliefs and seek a divorce? The stark choices can leave Christians in a kind of limbo—no longer feeling committed to a marriage that is irreparable, but unable to take that step towards a new life.

As a Texas family attorney and Christian, I have helped offer advice to many Christians as they face the big question of whether to divorce or not, along with the following questions Christians have about divorce:

  • Are Christians sinning in seeking divorce?
  • Are they condemning themselves to hell?
  • Must they suffer through an unloving, unwholesome marriage?
  • Are there any circumstances that permit Christians to divorce?

What is ungodly marriage?

Ungodly marriage from knowledge has no specific definition, but from little knowledge of what ungodly is, it is any habit, lifestyle, behavior or way of life that is not in accordance to the will and purpose of God. So ungodly marriage and relationship thus, will stand for any union between two people who are having the same goal in mind but will not bring glory to God. These kinds of affair usually end up in disarray and confusion, regret and shame at most. The painful thing is that it is practiced by youths and teenagers of the 21st century and also a male and female partner who are not literate enough to understand the danger of this kind of lifestyle.

Been in relationship or getting married is not bad in its entirety, but what makes it bad is doing it out of will of parents, friends and even loved ones (though at times all these barriers are for reasons which we will later look into), which at times might be doing so for your good as a person.

Ungodly means anything that is not done in a manner acceptable to God. It may mean something that is not done in a clean, pure and in a sanity manner.

What to do when a Christian marriage is failing?

Hold your marriage up to God in prayer and ask the Father to heal your marriage, bring reconciliation and restore your love. Pray, and “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Never give up! Dont get discouraged if you dont see immediate results. Remember, God works according to his timing and not ours. You must simply do your part and leave the rest to Him.

Remember also to pray for yourself, that you may find the strength and courage for the path you are on today. Davids counsel is essential for your endurance: “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD” (Palms. 27:14).

Most marriages encounter problems and conflicts sooner or later. Some marital problems and conflicts can be anticipated and avoided. Others cannot be foreseen and must be dealt with and resolved as they come. This takes the effort of both partners. Marital problems are complex and there are no easy answers or quick solutions for most. If they have been occurring over a long period, the relationship may be at a point of crisis. A marriage in crisis is very painful to go through, but that does not mean the relationship should be ended.

How to survive an unhappy marriage as a Christian?

Marriage is beautiful. The coming together of two souls, two lives, two bodies, and two minds, into one lifelong relationship is one of the mysteries that still confront us in daily life. But it is also hard.

When you love someone, that often requires setting aside your desires to be present for them and meet their needs. Taking someone else’s opinion and feelings into consideration in every decision you make can fray even the best of nerves, and it strains our hearts that delight in being safe and getting what they want. The union is beautiful and mysterious, but it is also hard because neither we nor our spouse are perfect people.

In the book The Mystery of Marriage by Mike Mason, the author had this to say regarding marriage – “A marriage, or a marriage partner, may be compared to a great tree growing right up through the center of one’s living room. It is something that is just there, and it is huge, and everything has been built around it, and wherever one happens to be going – to the fridge, to bed, to the bathroom, or out the front door – the tree must be considered. It cannot be gone through; it must respectfully be gone around. It is somehow bigger and stronger than oneself. True, it could be chopped down, but not without tearing the house apart. And certainly, it is beautiful, unique, exotic; but also, let’s face it, it is at times an enormous inconvenience.”

Does God want me to fight for my marriage?

Marriage is a commitment between one man and one woman before God to spend a lifetime loving and serving each other for Gods glory. The covenant we make in marriage was designed to mirror the unconditional, unshakeable covenant between Jesus and us (Ephesians 5:22-33). Thats why fighting for our marriage matters so much to God.

When we pursue our spouses, we are making the choice to put Jesus first in our lives. Were choosing to trust that Gods design for marriage will exceed our own expectations.

How to Fight for Your Marriage. 1. Never give up.. Every marriage experiences difficulty. Those trials are meant to deepen our love for our spouse — just as trials are meant to deepen our relationship with Christ (1 Corinthians 7:28).

If the trials seem like more than you can bear on your own, its OK to ask for help. Consider meeting with a professional counselor or opening up to an older, married couple who can help you through hard times.
