Who made Kate Middleton’s wedding dress?
“Miss Catherine Middletons wedding dress has been designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen,” the statement read. “Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing.”
The statement also said that Kate aimed to “combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueens work.”
According to the BBC, extreme measures were taken to ensure that nothing would happen to the dresss lace as a team of embroiderers aged 19 to 70 at the London Royal School of Needlework created it. The outlet reported that hand-washing was required every 30 minutes, while needles were renewed every three hours in an effort to keep the fabric pristine.
Where did Kate Middleton get her wedding dress from?
Kates English Cluny lace and French Chantilly lace wedding gown was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The long-sleeved dress also had a small piece of blue fabric sewn inside (her “something blue”), a 9-foot-long train and padded hips, which were designed to look like an opening flower.
When the dress was put on display for the public after the wedding, it broke royal visitation records: More than 600,000 people came to see its intricacies, which included four plant motifs on the skirt to represent England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The details were hand-appliquéd using an old Carrickmacross lace-making technique — the brides “something old.
Kates accessories covered the “something borrowed” and “something new” adages, including the Cartier Halo Tiara lent to her by the Queen. She also wore Robinson Pelham earrings, which were a gift from her parents, and featured an oak leaf with a pear-shaped diamond inspired by the Middletons new coat of arms.

“My family has been in the bridal business for about 45 years now. Growing up in the bridal business was such a joy. As a little kid, I would hide in the racks of our bridal boutique and scare our customers. I would always have conversations with our staff and our vendors, and they were always so kind to me. They made me feel like family. It was such a wonderful experience growing up in that environment. Throughout my life, my mother and grandmother have been my greatest influence. They were such strong ladies in business and taught me that there are no barriers. If you want something and work hard, you will find a way to make things happen. Im so excited to start introducing my twin girls to Maggie. I truly feel so fortunate to have these experiences as a business owner of a women-led company, as well as a mom. – Kelly Midgley.
Maggie Sottero established two additional labels. Sottero and Midgley was born for the chic and statement-making bride. Rebecca Ingram embodied another family name, Kellys great-great-grandmother, and made the trio of collections complete with its perfect convergence of style and affordability.
