Where Did Bernie Sanders Go For His Honeymoon?

Bernie Sanders, a popular Democrat senator, has been accused of honeymooning in the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. The popular Democrat senator and his wife did travel to Yaroslavl, a city in the Soviet Union, after their wedding in 1988. The trip was part of a government trip to establish sister-city ties in the Soviet Union. Sanders later described the tour as “a very strange honeymoon” in his 1997 memoir, Outsider in the House. The 10-day sojourn is facing scrutiny as it is considered evidence of dubious judgment and even Communist sympathies.

Sanders, then the socialist mayor of Burlington, Vermont, took his wife, Jane, to the Soviet Union for their honeymoon. The end of Sanders’s years at Madison was not a happy time, as his mother, weakened by a bout of rheumatic fever as a child, had taken ill. Sanders voted against the bill, which would also add sanctions against North Korea and Iran, but he said he feared that new sanctions would lead to a decrease in his bottom line.

Sanders and his wife Jane’s bottom line jumped from $240,622 in 2015 to $1,073,333 a year after their honeymoon. The state of the country in 1988 wouldn’t have made him a communist sympathizer, but the honeymoon in the Soviet Union is still considered evidence of his political beliefs.

  • Please stop using the word stimulus… we are way past that! It is now a matter of rescue! To tack on another corporate bailout is absolutely immoral! “we won’t give you the money until you let us off the hook ” … And it’s your money anyway? These officials were elected by the people to take care of the money that was entrusted to them through payment of the people’s taxes. Where do these officials get off telling the American people that they are not going to use the people’s money to bail them out of an emergency situation!!? It is so obvious that these elected officials are more intrested in the concerns of corporations than they are concerning the people who elected them… And pay them!

  • GO NINA!!! I spent 14 years in the belly of the beast as a private Chef and know it’s not about the 1% wanting more, it’s about them keeping us from having AN-Y-THING. They think we don’t deserve it. Fighters like Nina and Bernie must be supported to get us our fair share back from them!! She understands how sick and tired we truly are!!

  • GO NINA !!! We also need Sanders as Senate Majority Leader – a MUST. If he said he would like to be Senate Majority Leader IF the Georgia runoff results in Democratic victories giving the power to Democrats in the Senate – THAT would bring out millions of Georgia voters in a cry for justice never seen before. Shumer doesn’t cut it and will NOT draw voters in masses in Georgia. Bernie will. Then the progressive movement has legs and one huge heart of a true hero.

  • Candidates that run on the $15 an hour platform; do they intend to create a pay scale for all employees/employers? So when an entry level non-skilled worker gets moved up; will they adjust all other hourly skilled positions? So far just seems to be the bottom coming up, I am not sure what that accomplishes.

  • Poor 11th District continues to elect people who climb on their backs to get to congress and then forget about them, perhaps it would do them well if they stop doing as they are told and think for themselves instead of following people who are going to do nothing but let them down, when will those who are followers stop following and think outside of the box have they ever wanted something better????

  • I heard many times, journalists and politicians say we know, we thank, and we recognise the work of grass roots organisations, workers, and people. All the time, all the time, especially when are needed to be in the grass roots, and that is just it, only needed. When it comes to pay up what is fair, then it is “ohh no we need experience to run things,.” What is the one most distinctive thing about grass roots movements, and work? It is a very obvious thing. The answer is the street. The answer makes another thing very obvious. If you are on the streets all the time, living and fighting, you have to do a very unavoidable thing, in order to survive, and do/have some more living and fighting for another day. What is it? What is it? It is…… you have to pick a side. The left side of the street, or the right side of the street, you cannot stay in the middle of the street. The reason, should be obvious to all. If you don’t pick the right or left side of the street, you will have a big CAR running you over, something that all, I repeat all want to avoid, for any available, obvious human reasons. You only stay in the middle of the street if you want to DRIVE A CAR, RIDE A CAR, USE THE GEAR STICK OF A CAR, DRIVEN BY A CAR etc etc. If on the other hand you are actively involved on any grass roots movement then picking a side left or right is a must, it is the only way, it is on the name GRASS ROOTS. The strange thing is if you take out fear, hate and all the benefits of that towards each other, by the very fact that you cannot run each other over (because you are not a CAR), you will notice that what unties the left side, and the right side of the street is exactly the same thing, the human desire not to be run over by A BIG CAR.

  • Stop the emphasis on $15/hr min wage and start addressing the stupid high cost of living and lack of ‘affordable’ housing for so many people. One cause of inflation is ultra-low interest rates which helps the government and deficit spending. It also allows corporations to (borrow money) engage in bond sales so they can buy back stock.

  • Healthcare should be socio-capitalistic. Everyone has basic coverage which is paid for out of their taxes. Catastrophic insurance can then be purchased if necessary, but insurance companies would have to be capped. Their greed knows no bounds. As everyone would have basic coverage, the insurance companies could no longer claim thet we pay for the uninsured.
