Prince Charles and Princess Diana embarked on a 14-day cruise aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in August 1991, marking their 10th anniversary of marriage. The trip was described by the press as their “second honeymoon,” but it was not exactly romantic. By day two of their honeymoon, Princess Diana said she had lost hope in their union. The couple’s honeymoon proved anything but smooth, with some islands only accessible via dinghy.
In 1981, they started their honeymoon at Broadlands, the Hampshire family seat of Charles’ late great-uncle, Earl Mountbatten. They later traveled to Scotland, where they spent the first three days of their honeymoon at Broadlands. The couple’s first son, Prince William, was born in 1982, providing a new heir to the British throne.
The royal wedding took place on a sunny summer’s day in 1981, complete with much pomp and ceremony. However, it is now known that Charles and Diana were a mismatch, and that Charles was likely in love with someone else on his wedding day—Camilla Parker-Bowles (now his wife).
Charles and Diana’s honeymoon was not as romantic as they had hoped, with some details of the trip being less clear. The couple returned to the UK for their second honeymoon, which took place at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The couple’s honeymoon was a tragic event, marking the end of a lengthy and challenging relationship.

While most people head out on their honeymoon with the impression that their partner is totally in love with them, Diana wasnt so sure. Her insecurity stemmed from an awkward interview at the time of her and Charles engagement. “We had this ghastly interview the day we announced our engagement,” she told her speech coach on a tape that was later used for the Channel 4 documentary Diana: In Her Own Words. “And this ridiculous news man said, ‘Are you in love? “I thought, what a thick question. Why did Charles and Diana marry at St. Paul’s?
The wedding took place on 29 July 1981. 3,500 guests made up the congregation at St Pauls Cathedral.7 Charles and Diana selected St Pauls over Westminster Abbey, the traditional site of royal weddings, because St Pauls offered more seating9 and permitted a longer procession through London.
The ceremony was a traditional Church of England wedding service, presided over by the Most Reverend Robert Runcie, Archbishop of Canterbury,2 and the Very Reverend Alan Webster, Dean of St Pauls Cathedral. Twomillion spectators lined the route of Dianas procession from Clarence House, with 4,000 police and 2,200 military officers to manage the crowds.7 The security increased and sharpshooters were stationed due to the potential threat of an attack by the Irish Republican guerrillas.92024 The security screenings in the airports also increased.25 The cost of the wedding was later estimated to be $48million in total (between $70M and $110M when adjusted for inflation), with $600,000 being spent on security.92627 Regiments from the Commonwealth realms participated in the procession, including the Royal Regiment of Canada.28.

📹 What Really Happened To Charles & Diana’s Marriage? | In The Name Of Love | Real Royalty
From fairy tale bride to estranged royal wife and mother, Princess Diana captivated hearts and headlines. But this documentary …
Makes me sad…Princess Diana gave that marriage ‘her all’. Yes, different stories are still flying around but Diana was young, in love and so vulnerable. Why didn’t Charles just marry Camilla to start with? Oh, that’s right! He needed an heir to the throne. How thoughtful of him. RIP, Princess Diana🌱🙏🕊🙏 You were the most loved Princess ever and your legacy lives on🌱💗
i get so angry when people criticise Diana for how she behaved, after Charles had an ongoing affair while he was married to her. My husband cheated on me and it is devastating, and unless you know what it is like to have your husband do that to you you shouldn’t sit in judgement. I know I behaved badly sometimes but it is only because you are hurting so much. I think she was exceptional and I am so sorry she never ended up with someone she loved and who loved her in return. As for Megan Markle she is not a patch on Diana, never will be and I feel so sorry for Harry as she is using him and will leave him, she is full of it. She is no better than Charles with her behaviour, and how she dominates Harry . Can’t stand her, loved Diana.
I see all these remarks praising Diana and demeaning Charles or condemning Diana and supporting Charles. First let’s remember Charles had pressure to get married and with the virginal right woman. Apparently to the royal family duty superseded love. This goes to show how out of touch they were with the real world. The may support charities but do they really understand the suffering of others. And it does seem to some extent Diana did. Maybe being abandoned by her mother helped her to learn this. I’m not saying Diana is a saint but she was only 19 when she became engaged and 20 when she married him. She had “no idea” what it would be like being a part of the royal family. We as young girls come to think how wonderful it would be to be married to a prince. Maybe this comes from stories like Cinderella. It seems the royal family assumed she would “automatically” know what to do and fit in. But like I said they are really in touch with the outside world and let’s face it Diana introduced them to the outside world. She really tried to show them that there were people suffering from bad diseases like Aids and people were homeless. I’m guessing they probably knew it but did they ever stop to think about others? Charles was jealous that Diana became so popular which again shows how out of touch he was. He didn’t realize that Diana became what most young girls dream of. I guess since he was going to be king he thought he should be the more popular one or at least as popular. Believe it or not I really don’t completely blame Charles because I understand he grew up and was raised in the world he was raised in.
She had eating disorders before she ever married, she destroyed Charle’s paintings on the honeymoon because she wanted 100% of his attention. She thought that throwing herself down the stairs was also a good way to get attention. She was manipulative and vengeful. She was promiscuous and hypocritical, with many different lovers and stalked at least one of them when he broke it off with her. She was the master of the pity play, and portrayed herself as a perpetual victim. Diana obviously had Cluster B personality disorders and I’m sure whatever Charle’s felt for her at the beginning of the marriage soon died, and he went back to Camilla, to whom he has stayed faithful to for decades now. He has been a supportive father as well. And yet Diana’s smear campaign has outlived her. How do you tell who is the victim and who is “the problem” in these cases? When the person purposefully causing all the drama finally is gone, and the drama with her/him. Many people have bad marriages, many people get cheated on. They move on. Not Diana, she constantly sought sympathy and pity. Charles has led a drama free life since Diana died and her war against him finally ended. Now the new drama queen, Meghan Markle, is attempting to smear the royal family as well.
