Where Does The Personal Attendant Sit At A Wedding?

A personal attendant is a paid expert hired to take care of a bride or groom’s personal needs on the morning of their wedding. They are typically on hand for four to five hours, arriving first thing in the morning around 9 or 10 a.m. and finishing up just before cocktail hour. The attendant’s duties include getting party pants on, dressing the bride’s right-hand person, and assisting with wedding duties such as greeting guests, directing them to gift/card locations, restrooms, and signing guestbooks.

A personal attendant’s role entails a lot of responsibilities and a long to-do list, but it is also an honorable job. They should be given a color scheme to choose from and some guidance on the appropriate dress type (formal, cocktail, floor-length, beaded, lace, etc.). They can coordinate with the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and other members of the bridal party to ensure everyone is aware of the timeline and knows what to expect.

A wedding pet attendant is someone who cares for your pet during the ceremony and/or reception. They assist with things like walking your dog, giving them potty breaks, and walking them down the aisle. It is important to give your attendant a color palette to choose from and some direction as to the style of dress (formal, cocktail, floor-length, beaded, lace, etc.) so they coordinate perfectly in all of your photos and stand out as a guest of honor.

A personal attendant’s focus is on the bride, groom, parents of the marrying couple, and members of the wedding party. They are typically included in the grand entrance if the rest of the wedding party is.

Who typically sits at the head table at a wedding?

Who Sits Where. Traditionally, the newly-weds sit next to each other in the middle of the table, with the bride seated to the grooms left. Typically, the bride is sat next to her father, with her mother sitting next to her groom. The grooms father is then sat next to the brides mother, with his mother being sat next to the brides father. At the end of the table sits the maid of honour and the best man. The best man sits on the brides side and the maid of honour on the grooms. This keeps a nice male/female pattern going. However, this is definitely not mandatory.

This does ensure that you are all seated at one table for your first meal as an official family. This is the preferred option in the UK, as it doesnt look like youre picking favourites or ‘demoting close family members to a different table.

If this sounds far too confusing, weve designed a quick graphic to help you visualise the arrangement.

You are the woman for the job, and this job means there are things to do & tasks to complete in order to help create the most special day for the bride & groom.

Who sits at table 1 at a wedding?

While table one most frequently includes the couple, their wedding party and the wedding party plus ones, a head table can really be constructed in whatever way makes the most sense for the couple and who they want to sit with, says Jamie Chang of Passport to Joy. Table one could be the couple and their wedding party and their partners, it could be the couple and their family or parents. There is no right or wrong way to construct the head table as long as its created with everyones enjoyment in mind.

Karese DeHaan of Detailed Floral Design agrees that you and your partners preferences should be the guiding force behind the decision of who sits at table one at the reception. One fun decision to make early in wedding planning is who you would like to sit with at the reception. Do you prefer to sit with your friends at a head table or would you like to sit at a sweetheart table just the two of you? There is no right or wrong, and the decision often comes down to your unique personality and the feel you are going for at your reception. However, this decision will be integral in the layout of your whole reception and will determine your course for details such as which tables to rent and the florals to order. A head table generally seats the couple, their wedding party and often the wedding partys significant others. This can create a more energetic and fun atmosphere as the large group interacts. Seating so many often requires a very long table. A sweetheart table will create a more romantic feel, designate a little time alone, and feature you as a couple. This allows the wedding party to be with other guests they know and are closest to. Choosing who you will sit with at the reception is an opportunity early in the planning process to create the mood you envision for your wedding day.

Family Tables. The parents of the couple often sit opposite each other at a large family table, with grandparents, the officiant and other close friends. Another option is for the parents to head their own tables, with their close family members and friends. In the case of divorced parents, each parent may also host his or her own table, smoothly diffusing any awkwardness or discomfort.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I have been an executive assistant to C-Suite executives for 15 years. I have done all the things you mentioned and more. Finally someone understands that each of those four positions is a totally different animal. Great article for executives to see. My husband is an organizational psychologist and many people would be surprised to hear that this is one area that he questions the executive about. If they don’t get the right assistant, it can really hold them back. Fantastic article.

  • Thank you so much for this! Really helpful! To successfully hire employees, you need to think about a lot more than you would imagine. Without a good team, your business will go downhill and it will be a HARD recovery. Hire character. Train skill. Hiring people is a form of investing. You have to do your research and make sure you’re spending your resources on the right pick. We are really thankful that we have a great team of employees in our business that has actually made it possible for our business to run even without us. Thanks to our general manager who took over the business while we were travelling for almost a month!! We own a cookie shop business in our college town. When we first started it, we were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. We just graduated college as well. We started the late night cookie shop out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night. We were living in our car in the parking lot of the shop at the time with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And how we have our first storefront location (a second launching soon!) We started it to fund a year long backpacking trip around the world and to be successful while living the life of our dreams.

  • Thanks again for this wonderful article I did not know that I was administrative Assistant, until I saw this article, I quit my job (I loved my job but had personal things I had to take care of) and after I quit my boss stopped moving up, I don’t want to brag but now I have confirmed that if you have a good assistant you can do so much more. My former boss could go out of town, and I had everything under control. Now he never goes because the new assistants can’t keep business together while he is gone.

  • Patrick, you are one of my biggest mentors. I have been perusal your articles for years now and it seems every time I really need an opinion on something you post the exact article I need help with or I find one of your older articles. I’m currently in the process of hiring my first VA. I have been through 250 job applicants narrowed it down to 40, interviewed 30 now I have 6 solid candidates left to interview. I can only hire 1 at this moment. I hadn’t subscribed because I never used youtube logged in, but I have done it now just for you. I feel I have to leave you this heartfelt message as you have been a huge inspiration to me in my journey ever since I quit my job over 2 years ago. I have so much respect for you as a person on so many levels. I can see myself in your position in 10 years time, I’m 29 at the moment. Your content is by farrrr the best on the internet. You cover so many different topics and in such great depth. Honestly I owe you so much as I am sure everybody who watches your articles feels the same way. Please keep on doing these great articles and remember my name in a few years when I’ve smashed it I will pay you back in whatever way I can. Ps. You and Tim Ferriss are my guys. Very different to each other, but both amazing. You guys change the world to a better place and provide hope to us who did not finish high school with good grades, didn’t go sixth form, didn’t graduate from university yet we are the ones running businesses and being our own bosses. I’ve been meaning to leave you this message for a very long time, but sometimes you have to wait for the right time and now is the right time.

  • I fucking love you pbd no HOMO. I’m 1:08 minutes and just from the first description of an assistant at a start up stage “the runner” I can all ready tell this is going to give me the insight I’ve been searching for, for months! You give so much out bro God bless you and your family. From England North London !

  • Hi, I would like to find all your PDF in one place on your website but it does not seem to be made. I believe you do as for the Hiring assistant to make us send an SMS for X purpose which I hope is rewarding for your company, I would not have a problem paying for your PDF since some of them helped me a lot and I want to go further into what other PDF could do for me. Please could I have an update on where to have them all in one place Thank you

  • Great presentation. How about number 11: hiring someone who is able to do a ton of research, prepare a presentation and setting up a blackboard with bullets and an autocue so you can do a presentation in less than two hours instead of spending two weeks, meanwhile people thinking ‘how does he do it all?.’

  • Pat, how would you fire an EA who spent 6 months with you, you just invested 6 months of your life in onboarding him and “opening up” to him? He knows EVERYTHING about you! And that 1 time “close lips” situation comes up… You fire him – 6 months are wasted and now you get a very well prepared enemy who is angered with you after you fired him. What you say about this situation?

  • This is literally a tutorial for creating a professional kiss-ass. No wonder there is so much corruption. This inherently will push people to cut corners and eventually break the law in order to please their boss. Very helpful article in terms of how this mindset should look when looking for an assistant, but I can’t help but see how much of a kiss-ass you’d have to be to become a successful assistant.
