Where Is Sibling Marriage Legal?

Sibling marriage is not legal in all states, but some states allow it under certain conditions. Alabama, Arizona, and Alaska are among the states where it is permitted to marry a sister, but even in these states, the law has restrictions. In Argentina, marriage between an ascendant and a descendant is illegal and would be invalidated. Brazil has no punishment for relations between people over the age of 14, and Brazil law also allows for marriages between first cousins.

In Spain and the Netherlands, consensual incest is fully legal, but siblings may not marry. In Belgium and Luxembourg, there are restrictions. In Germany, you do not need to be officially married to live with your partner and have children. However, sexual relations between siblings are considered incestuous almost universally.

In Japan, the current legal status of sibling marriages is not permitted under any circumstances. According to Article 733 of the Japanese Civil Code, any marriage between siblings is prohibited and may be subject to criminal penalties if either party attempts to enter into an incestuous relationship. Other states, such as California, Florida, and New York, do not have specific laws prohibiting marriage between adopted siblings.

Incest is also legal in Argentina, Brazil, India, the Ivory Coast, Japan, Latvia, South Korea, Thailand, and Turkey. In Spain, Netherlands, and Russia, consensual incest is fully legal, but siblings may not marry, nor may half-siblings or a step-parent and a stepchild. Half-siblings can legally marry under certain circumstances in Sweden and Brazil.

In conclusion, while sibling marriage is legal in most countries, it is not widespread in many states. It is important to stay informed and cross-referencing information to ensure compliance with current regulations.

  • I know of a couple who were full cousins and married, and they had two children. The first-born had very bad vision due to defects in his eyes. The couple went on to have a second child and one of the reasons for that decision was to disprove the assertion that the cause of the first child’s ailment was due to the parents being closely related. When the second child was born it was discovered that he was completely blind. In fact, the child had in fact no eyes. Marriage between first cousins is to be prohibited in some European countries, but it is commonplace within some non-christian religions. I admit that I am only guessing about this (but based on known cases to me), it seems to me that if there are no issues with known hereditary defects in the families of cousins who get married, then there will be no problems with their offspring, but if there are already issues within cousins‘ families who get married to each other, then the risk that their offspring will have health problems/defects increases dramatically. The laws of nature should not be broken : Marriage between cousins increases the risk of offspring being mentally- and/or physically retarded.

  • Foolishness🤦 they are cousins not bother and sister so i don’t see the reasons for sending them to prison for that . its like people forget that we all come from Adam and Eve .There children got married together and so on that’s how the world become populated today, so religiously we all are cousins it doesn’t matter the skin color or the race because we all created by the will of the Almighty through Adam and Eve . lol i bet they wish they should keep there business to there self instead of sharing it with the world.

  • The question must be why is it insist? Why is it called incestt? Who invented the word incest. Why he came up with this word. Why is it bad? How come is it bad? Is this a God given law that you must not do this or that? Who is the first who created the law? How does it started? How did he came up with the word insist? How did we have middle name? How did we have family name? Are we just brothers and sister same blood and genetics from Adan and Ave? How did the world create more people? How did Adan and ave multiplied? What i mean is how they grow the population? When did family name being created and why is it created? What’s the history of having name? Why do we have the same family names in other country? Are we still related even though they are from another country? Where did my family name came from?

  • The more closely related you are, the more likely you both carry the same “defective” recessive allele which is extremely rare in the overall population. In most cases, that allele would be masked by the “healthy” dominant allele and the carrier appear to be healthy. It would be highly unlikely (though not impossible) for both unrelated parents to carry the same “defective allele. However, kids from closely related parents will have a much greater chance of inheriting the genetic defect because there’s a greater chance for them to get both recessive “defective” allele with no “healthy” allele to back them up. In simple terms, nothing’s certain, but incest puts their offsprings at a MUCH greater risk. A risk that you don’t want to take.

  • i hate when people try and defend incest with “if gays can marry why cant cousins”, well number you are stating it like incest is a fucking sexuality which it isn’t. Second its your bloodline, which could somewhat of a chance of a baby being born with a birth defect or a disability which that baby doesn’t deserve 🙁 . I can understand if its your religion or a requirement or something in your family but just to do just because, its repulsive. If your think about it theirs millions of people in the world but you decide to choose your cousin…. wow- ( whats got me dead is that people are actually defending this o-o)
