Where Were Randall’S Daughters At Kate’S Wedding?

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 13 revolves around Philip and Kate’s wedding, but the story is not about them. The show follows a group of people born on the same day, Jack (Ventimiglia) who is married to Rebecca (Moore) and expecting triplets. Randall Kenneth Pearson (born Randall Hill) is the son of Rebecca and Jack Pearson, who adopted him shortly after his birth. He is also the brother of stillborn triplets Kevin, Kate, and Kyle Pearson.

The story revolves around the wedding, which is filled with drama and mystery. Randall’s kids, Deja, Tess, and Annie, are not mentioned in the story, but it seems that they were not at Kate’s wedding. The rush of time can slow down on a special day, and the appropriate length for a father-of-the-bride speech is between 6 and 8 minutes, not exceeding ten minutes.

Kate’s second wedding took place a few years in the future, so they would have used different actresses for the three girls. The wedding was the most depressing on TV since the Red Wedding, and Randall’s kids were right to stay far away.

In April 2022, the show filmed an episode featuring Kate’s wedding, played by Chrissy Metz, in Paso Robles at Allegreto Vineyard. The show continues to explore the reactions of Miguel and Randall to Rebecca’s disease and the relationship between Kate and Toby.

Do Beth and Randall adopt Deja?

William, a recovering drug addict who is dying, eventually lives out his final months with Beth, Randall and their girls, Tess and Annie. After William dies, Beth and Randall buy the decrepit building he used to live in and adopt a teenager, Deja, who shares a special father-daughter bond with Randall.

There was also a surprise third parallel storyline involving a new family with two sons and a daughter we hadnt seen. The dad Kenny, played by Dulé Hill, lost control of the family car and one of the sons, Marcus, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. For a little while it seemed like grownup Marcus may be future Dejas boyfriend. It turned out she was still with Malik, who was revealed the father of her baby, while the car crash and the Pearsons fire happened on the same day, with Marcus and Jack being treated by the same doctor, Dr. Spencer, played by the same actor, Bill Irwin, who guest starred in This Is Us‘ Super Bowl episode.

Kenny bumped into Jack at the hospital where Jack shared Dr. Ks making lemonade out of lemons wisdom which Kenny then made his own family motto. Marcus, who miraculously was revived by Dr. Spencer just as Jack was dying a few doors down, went on to become a top researcher. He was honored for his contributions to finding cure for Alzheimers, with the man who handed him the award played by The Is Us director/EP Ken Olin, who helmed “The Train”.

As young Rebecca and William walked through the train, with some memorable This Is Us moments playing out around her, including Jack and young Randalls Karate class scene, the two reached the caboose.

What happened with Deja on This Is Us?

Seven episodes later, we finally got our answer: Deja and Malik are endgame! Fans found this out in Season 6, Episode 17 (the shows penultimate episode). In it, the Pearson extended family has all gathered to say goodbye to Rebecca (Mandy Moore), and while theyre waiting, Deja tells Randall that shes pregnant — but the fathers identity is a mystery. Deja texts the father to tell him the news, but he isnt revealed until later in the episode — when he rushes into Dejas room in the middle of the night. Its Malik, all grown up and very successful. He tells Deja that hes loved her since he was 16 years old and wants this baby with her. They embrace — and just like that, another This Is Us endgame was revealed.

Deja, of course, has had a long, nuanced storyline on This Is Us— from being fostered (and later adopted) by Randall and Beth to coming into her own as a young woman. Shes a characterOyegun is particularly proud of.

A lot of times whenever you have these stories about a kid with a hard life who gets adopted, theyre used as some sort of token or cautionary tale or angelic creature or anything like that, Oyegun says. I think with Deja, weve had a front row seat into her psychology. This is a young Black girls inner world and inner workings of her world. You get to see her terrified and scared, understand her origin story, watch her fall in love, watch that love consume her, and watch that love be actualized. Its just been such a wonderful gift to kind of explore that.

Does Randall ever forgive Rebecca?

While watching “Every Version of You,” I kept thinking about season ones “Pilgrim Rick,” the first Thanksgiving episode, in which Randall learns his mother has been lying to him for his entire life about knowing his birth father. The two episodes feel like a pair. If “Pilgrim Rick” is pretty much about disemboweling the Randall-Rebecca Very Special Relationship right there on the dining-room table, “Every Version of You” feels as if theyre finally sewing it back up. Yes, Rebecca has apologized multiple times and Randall has forgiven her, but something about this road trip feels cathartic and healing. They need this. Maybe we all need to have gross dive-bar wine with our moms.

So how do these two end up on a road trip post-Thanksgiving? Deja flies the coop. Immediately after the big meeting with Rebecca and Miguel, Randall is trying to wrap his head around everything, including that Rebecca is handing over the reins to Kate, not to him. You know thats hitting this guy hard. So what he doesnt need at that moment is Deja storming downstairs telling Randall and Beth that she knows Randall told Malik to break up with her, which he just did, and that she hates him. Randall tries to explain again that dropping out of high school to move in with your single-dad boyfriend is a terrible idea, but Deja doesnt want to hear it. And when he tells her he can make these kinds of decisions for her because hes her dad, she says something I imagine most of us were waiting for her to use to hurt Randall: She isnt his daughter. “Tess and Annie are your daughters. Im just some girl you took from her mom,” she yells at him. That one stings. The next morning, they learn Deja took off for Boston in the middle of the night.

Randall is ready to drive up there so quickly he basically has a trail of cartoon dust behind him. Rebecca tries to get her son to take a breath, and he makes a little dig about asking Kate to handle it since apparently she handles family problems now. It is so mean! Rebecca decides she isnt letting Randall go by himself — shes tagging along.

What are the names of Randall’s daughters in This Is Us?

Meet Randall and Beths daughters on This Is Us: Tess, Annie, and Déjà.

Theres a moment in the final season of This Is Us that encapsulates the Pearson sisters relationship perfectly. Seventeen-year-old Déjà (Lyric Ross) has gotten caught sneaking off to see her boyfriend Malik (Asante Blackk) at Harvard, and Malik has offered to make the family dinner as a sort of peace offering. Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) can sense that the two are up to something, theyre just not sure what.

Enter the other Pearson girls, who try to help their big sister. Middle child Tess (Eris Baker), an outspoken queer teen, runs interference by asking her mom a suspiciously curious work question, and precocious baby girl Annie (Faithe Herman) does her part by telling a too cute knock-knock joke. It doesnt work — Déjà reveals that she plans to get her GED so she can move in with Malik, Randall flips out, and MVP Beth goes into damage-control mode — but the effort Tess and Annie make to shield their sister is still admirable and adorable.

For the television sisters, the scripted united front came easily and from a real place. I think our own screen connection is beautiful, especially because we have a relationship off screen, Baker says. Herman agrees: Im very grateful for that.

Why did they change Randall’s name on This Is Us?

In present day, Randall is figuring out how to tell his mom that hes found his birth dad. In the past, we know she spotted him lingering outside the hospital after she gave birth. We learn the story of William (Jermel Nakia), a.k.a. Shakespeare, and Laurel (Jennifer C. Holmes), the tragic undoing of their life together and how William came to give up his son. But back in the present timeline, somethings rotten in New Jersey: When Randall introduces Rebecca to William and then leaves them to talk, William tells her, You look well, as in, You look well since the last time I saw you. But still, blink and you couldve missed it. You cant miss what comes next, though: A flashback of Rebecca tracking down William in search of parenting advice. Turns out he was the one who suggested changing the babys name from Kyle, meant for the original triplet who died. And thats how Randall becomes Randall, named after Williams favorite poet, Dudley Randall. And oh yeah, Rebecca makes William promise never to come looking for his son. Uh-oh.

After some rough twists and turns, finally: a surprising-in-a-good way development! Its Christmastime — and the fall finale — and we find William in a Narcotics Anonymous meeting bickering with another member, Jessie (Denis OHare). It doesnt take long to realize that Jessie and William are in fact in love, and William, who by now we know has cancer, confesses that he disappeared to spare his partner the pain of watching him die. When William brings Jessie to Christmas at Randall and Beths, the two wonder about the mystery mans identity. It takes wise-beyond-her-years Tess (foreshadowing!) to tell them, Grandpa is gay. Or at least bi.

Its birthday time for the Big Three (and also Jack, technically, though once he has triplets, he doesnt really ever get to celebrate). The Pearsons, in their never-ending quest to be the best parents on the planet, host three simultaneous parties for each of their three kids, all at the house. Barely anyone shows up to Randalls, but Kates Madonna theme and Kevins Princess Bride bash are a smash… with one small caveat: Kates best friend, Sophie (Sophia Coto), is spending more time on Kevins side of the house. When Jack asks Kevin to help get Sophie back to the party she was invited to so Kates feelings arent hurt, Kevin replies, I cant, Dad. I love her. In the very same episode, adult Kevin is trying to figure out whether he should be with melodramatic actress Olivia (Janet Montgomery) or brainy playwright Sloane (Milana Vayntrub), and he chooses… neither! Instead he winds up at the New York City apartment of grownup Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge), who, it turns out, he married, cheated on and divorced 12 years prior.

Sterling K. Brown and Justin Hartley may be great friends and costars in real life, but their This Is Us characters have been going through a rough patch after their huge fight.

Last week, fans saw Randall (Brown) virtually keeping his brother Kevins pregnant fiancée Madison (Caitlin Thompson) some company as she prepares to give birth, possibly alone, while Kevin (Hartley) hurriedly tries to make it back to Los Angeles to be by Madisons side when she welcomes their twins. However, Kevin appeared to be stuck at the Seattle airport, where he was unable to make it past the TSA agent because he lost his ID.

Ahead of Tuesdays episode, titled In the Room, Brown, 44, tells PEOPLE that Randalls act of kindness could lead to the sibling resolution audiences have been hoping for since last season.

  • I’ve been thinking a lot today, um… about time. And how, when you’re young– like when you’re Jackie’s age– a year is like a fifth of your existence. And so maybe when you’re younger, time seems to move a little bit slower. Summer vacation is a lifetime. But the older we get, the faster time just seems to come at us. All of us. You know, the years just keep flying by, faster and faster. It can give a guy whiplash, just thinking about it. And so while I would love nothing more than to… stay in this moment as long as humanly possible, to celebrate our favourite newlyweds… sadly, I have yet to build a remote that pauses life. Damn. That doesn’t mean there aren’t still summer vacations to be enjoyed. Still good conversations to be had. And still love to be shared. It just all happens much faster. But, um… in moments like this, when you’re around all your favourite people… celebrating a really special day… time does slow down ever so much. So I’m grateful to Kate and Philip for that. And I’m filled with comfort, as I look around this room, knowing that all of you will be on this speeding train with me, slowing down for the occasional special stop. All the way till the very end. So, um… cheers.

  • My God! I think Miguel has Parkinson’s did u see his hand shaking at the wine tasting with Randall? That explains all of the meds he was taking a few episodes back. Also explains why he didn’t want Randall looking at the different meds too closely this episode. I suspected it a few episodes back. Miguel has died and that’s why he’s not at Rebecca’s deathbed.

  • Loved everything about this wedding episode than the actual wedding. The whole Kate/Phillip relationship just kills the essence of the show. Nothing the writers are pushing for why Kate and Toby get divorced makes any sense. It went to fast from Kate and Toby being a happy couple to Kate marrying Phillip. The whole story arc makes me not like Kate and she was my least favorite character to begin with on the show.

  • Beth’s story is also my story. I had a private little school where I taught English and french, and I had just turn 2 years of being there when covid came. I’ve closed it thinking I would come back in a week. I had some of my students on zoom, but soon they started vanishing and by September I closed my project forever. I still feel really sad about it. I worked with kids and I helped them, that project took me so much energy to build only to end up like that. Fortunately, my husband is my biggest supporter and always has a nice word for me. <3

  • The first time I saw this scene, I was crying, like I LOVE Beth’s character so much, and every time she gets to have scenes like this one, or scenes where she remembers her love for ballet and how Randall was always there on her side to comfort her every time she felt like her passion will never be fulfilled, and as what Deja told Randall that she doesn’t need a Hero, she needs him to be on her side, like this scene is so amazing.

  • This is such a beautiful moment.I can relate So much. My husband and I opened a restaurant and it did so well that we decided to open another in March of 2020.. of course Covid happened and it was the worst part of our life (and everyone else’s) ever. Our kids stayed with their grandparents full time while we did what we could to save both restaurants. Unfortunately, we had to close one (one is still going strong) and I feel all the pain Beth felt. But I can say we are still open and this one store is doing well. But my husband and I have been suppprtive of each other. It’s hard.
