Stayed at Coronado a few months back and loved it. Large and sprawling? Yes. But it was quiet, had great dining options, and the bussing wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. We rarely waited more than a few minutes and had no problem getting seats. We were also 3 adults, so Disney type theming wasn’t important to us.
Frankly, that Polynesian tower going up is the main reason why I agree with your ranking. Instead of incorporating the “needed” DVC rooms into several longhouses, the mad geniuses decide to put yet another tower in an area that was once a lush divider between the tropical paradise and gingerbread elegance. Also, I did not realize the Swan Reserve changed the skyline over at Crescent Lake…another eyesore! Thanks for your informative article!
Very thorough review and summary of the WDW hotels. I enjoyed perusal. It confirmed my favorites are still the best. I love Boardwalk, Grand Floridian Contemporary and the Polynesian. The best adventure hotel is the Animal Kingdom lodge: great pools, restaurants, cultural representatives, and the Savanna!
This was a fantastic review. I like that you included the DVC resorts. As a DVC a member, I am so glad I purchased in to club after seeing how expensive all the hotels are currently. I love the Rivera, Wilderness Lodge and Grand Floridian. The last time I stayed at a Value Hotel was 2008 and it was like $85 per night. 😳 Coronado Springs is one of the hotels I would love to try separate from DVC. I wish you would have shown BLT a little and Poly Bungalows. You mentioned the WL cabins, but it’s would be nice to show them too. For All Star Sports, I would say when you are going truly matters a ton. I’ve stayed there twice and had two radically different experiences. The 1st was during a cheerleading competition and they would practice all around the place. It made my stay super enjoyable since my grandfather and I woke up so much earlier than the rest of my family. We would walk around and watch all the teams practice. At least this event, these teams were clearly the top of their sport because my heart went in my mouth so many times perusal. Loud, yes, but still super fun to watch with all their pretty outfits. The second was during a soccer competition and it sucked. Just loud without the free entertainment.

Of course my dream dream dream hotel is the Grand Floridian at Christmastime, but now I know that the Beach Resort or Boardwalk is probably our best deal for how we like to vaca in Disney. We stayed at Disney Wilderness Lodge a couple of years ago and we loved it. It’s very family friendly, the pool was great, they also had family activities if you were staying in from the park . My daughter is a picky eater so the kids menu was great and we definitely recommend it. I think next time, if we stay for a week again I would splurge on a suite with the fridge and a stove and just a bit more room.
Fun fact about the campground: golf carts are so popular there, they have a Christmas themed golf cart parade through the rv section. People decorate their carts with lights and yard decorations then parade through the streets. Its not advertised, its purely put on by guests and its word of mouth. You have to know someone involved or get invited. We were invited once and it was the highlight of our trip
This is a very good listing and overview of the resorts at Disney World. Some of the resorts should be split, particularly Coronado Springs / Grand Destino Towers and the cabins/bungalows at the deluxe resorts, and the DVC properties should be considered separately, instead of these being grouped with the main property.
Nice review. Great that you touched on all the resorts. I do wish you showed the pools from each resort. I have also stayed at all the resorts, but my top 3 are a little different. Polynesian was #1. Excellent theming, food, tranquility, fun pool, electric water parade, & monorail access. A very close #2 would be the Riviera. I have never been so relaxed at a Disney resort as just sitting in one of their swings sipping on my cappuccino perusal a bocce game while waiting for the rest of my family. On rainy days, it’s also one of the few places you can get to transport without getting wet. Just hit a button on the elevator and a short covered walk to either skyline or bus. Also, after extensive use of all three, I’ve found Skyline transport is much better than boat or even monorail, especially on the afterhours nights to get back and forth quickly. My #3 would be Coronado, as the value cannot be beat for a full family. My kids loved the pool and playground, My wife loves the food and I love a good hammock.
I stayed at The Disney Yacht Club resort last year and wow!!! 🤩 absolutely amazing. I’m from Canada and have never stayed at a Disney resort in my life and last time I went to Disney, I was 3 years old. 😅it was a well deserved trip. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn’t mind paying a little more.
I always love your Energy, Quincy, and this vlog is a great example. I’ve stayed at All Star Sports & Music, Pop Century, Port Orleans Riverside, Caribbean Beach, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Coronado Springs and Polynesian Village are on my ‘I’d like to stay there’ list as well as the Swan and the Disney Springs Good Neighbor venues. I agree with your rankings, for the most part. I would place Animal Kingdom Lodge #1, but I understand your reasons for selecting Wilderness Lodge. Thanks for a great and informative show!
Hype that the wilderness lodge took the top spot. It’s such an awesome resort and most of the people staying there, in my experience, are just totally without the weird snobbery that a lot of the guests at the Grand Floridian and Yacht and Beach can have for some reason. It’s super weird when you encounter it but I’m far from the first who’s noticed. Honestly I’ve stayed at pretty much every tier, from the all stars to the deluxe, and if I had my pick my two choices would be the All Star Sports and the Wilderness Lodge. One because it’s affordable as heck and sometimes you only need a place to crash, and the other because it’s an incredible experience with brilliant amenities and a beautiful layout, without the snobbish, nose in the air attitude you might run into at Y&B or GF.
Since it’s just my wife and I, I heartily recommend Pop Century. Especially it’s newly remodeled and very attractive rooms. Especially for only two people. Art of Animation is very good, but mainly larger family rooms. Moderates get harder: The Gran Destino at Coronado Springs is spectacular and feels very luxurious for its cost. Also really love the French Quarter; very small and compact, putting everything in easy walking distance. Deluxe–Poly Ride Or Die. Hands down the best in the park. HOW DARE YOU rate it 4th. Wilderness Lodge is spectacular, but poor transportation options let it down. Monorail loop price, no monorail. Boardwalk is usually pretty well priced, being such an enormous hotel; look at DVC resale sites to save more. David’s, as you mentioned, is a very good source.
Great reviews. I think the only thing that needs to be mentioned are the 5th beds in several resorts. We are a family of 5, so we don’t necessarily need a family suite, just that 5th bed. Unfortunately for us, your top 2 choices could never accommodate us in a standard room because Wilderness and Animal only sleep 4. Grand Floridian, Poly, Contemporary, Yacht, Beach, Boardwalk all have a 5 th bed. Riverside has a smaller pull down 5th bed for smaller size folks only.
I’ve stayed at Boardwalk and Animal Kingdom Lodge so far as a dvc member. I wasn’t overly impressed with the Boardwalk but I LOVED Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had a two bedroom Savannah view so my balcony was probably 30′ long. The pool was also awesome at Jambo House, I highly recommend that resort. I want a resort that I can enjoy in it’s own right and not just because it’s close to parks. My next trip is to Wilderness Lodge and I think I will love it. Although it’s not a monorail resort, it is once you take a short boat ride to the Contemporary so you really get the monorail resort at a lesser price. Fun fact, the architect that designed Animal Kingdom Lodge also designed Wilderness lodge. You can really see the similarities in the lobbies.
I’ve stayed at 90% of WDW resorts the only ones I haven’t stayed at: POFQ, AoA, Riv., SS and WL. I’ve stayed at the Fort in our RV and stayed at Shades of Green before it was military only. My favorite value: Any of the Allstars, not a fan of the sky liner so that puts Pop out and AoA is just too expensive for what it is. Favorite mod: Hands down CSR, love the theming. Have never stayed in the tower but love the Casitas and Cabanas. Still need to stay in Rancharos. Favorite deluxe: YC, love the adult vibe of the place and walking distance to two parks. I’ll be honest if I’m staying in that area I’ll stay at any of the three, whichever is less. Honorable mention: Swan/Dolphin. These are actually where I stay at the most now, again less than the WDW resorts in the area but with most of the perks.
I am an U. S. Government certified Old Far…, ehr, Dude and a widowed, empty nest, retiree. My last and 7th trip to W.D.W. was in December 2017, the narrow “Value Season” (remember those?) window between the Thanksgiving and Chrisrmas rushes. It was a solo trip and I spent 4 nights on the ground floor of the Sheriff Woody/Toy Story building of the All-Stars Movies resort. Is it the ultimate Disney experience? Of course not, but it was far more than adequately good; clean rooms, a bit whimsical, with a reasonably good food court. If finite nest egg and increasingly fragile ankles ever permit another visit to the World, I would more than happily stay there again. Note: other visits to the World in more prosperous times included stays primarily at Dixie Landings/Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter (water taxis down the Sassagoula River to and from Disney Springs constitute an attraction in my book) and a 1 week stay (with family back then) at the Polynesian resort.
I’m not sure if you should call the art of animation suites value- they’re sometimes more than 2 rooms at pop and more than moderate resort rooms. Yes it’s technically more room than a standard room but even when I went with family- we didn’t have 6 ppl staying together. Usually was just 3 of us. I’ve also heard that the Murphy bed and sofa beds are uncomfortable whereas the Murphy bed at pop was just as comfy as the regular bed.
My family and I have stayed at most of the deluxe hotels and I 100% agree with Wilderness Lodge at the top. Location, theming and dining are all great. Best part is the fact that it is cheaper than most of the other deluxes. AKL is great as well with even better restaurants and theming but the big downside is how far it is from everything other than Animal Kingdom but still fantastic and always in my families top three choices when we are deciding where to stay for a trip. Didn’t agree with Boardwalk Inn being higher than Beach Club. Beach Club location and pool are just too good.
I honestly would never put Animal up that high, especially over Poly. Theming aside if that’s your thing, and I could see it being a good place to stay if you’re not doing a lot of park days, but I wouldn’t want to be paying that much to only have bus transportation as my option. When I’m exhausted at the end of the night and I have to take a bus and a long walk to my room, I might as well stay at CB or POR.
I believe the first hotel my wife and I stayed at maybe before we were even husband and wife was Coronado Springs maybe 20 years ago way before the new buildings were up then we stayed at Animal Kingdom twice we just came back from the wilderness Lodge a little under two weeks ago And we’ve been to a few others that I can’t think of off the top of my head. We have next vacation booked ready for next December 2024 for the Polynesian for the first week in December. I have to say the wilderness was a really nice hotel a little bit like the animal kingdom, but I think I even liked it a little more we had the firework view so every night we saw fireworks from the Magic Kingdom. The only problem was there were so many bugs out at night that we couldn’t open the sliding door on the other hand, the animal kingdom, we always get the animal views and that’s cool looking at animals also, so I don’t know which one I like better lol
Personally I like values the best cuz I love the theming of all of em (except sports that one is so bland.) But for values my favorite will always be pop century. For moderates honestly it’s a tie between port Orleans Riverside and Coronado springs due to the fact they are perfect romantic getaway locations. And for deluxe I have to go with animal kingdom Lodge mostly because I got a lot of nieces and nephews who would go nuts for the animals. I think it’s the perfect hotel for making the little ones happy.
So I am curious as to a rough estimate of how much over the years that has cost you staying at all the Disney Resorts in Disney World My Disney Trip Budget is $20,000 and I doubt it will go far considering how much a bungalow is at the Disney Polynesian Resort per night Im trying to get two weeks in Disney World with my wife and two little girls and be able to experience at least 90% of what Disney World has to offer, because we don’t live in Florida and very rarely Vacation My guess is I will have to wait a couple more years and make our budget at least $30,000 or not stay in a fancy Deluxe Resort Which I really want a Deluxe Resort with at least a suite are whole stay because of everything they offer and because this will be the only time I take my family to Disney World unless I win the lottery. Im just doing 1 and done and never going again just to give my family the experience. Is my budget Reasonable or no?
I’ve stayed at All-Stars- will not ever again. Not terrible just transportation is terrible. If you need a value with good transportation to places like EPCOT and Hollywood, POP Century and/or Art of Animation. They are good on cost especially if you need to save money and will not be there long. Art also has interior rooms. I once got an upgrade at Art and the one room was nice. You can also ride buses to either hotel and just walk across the bridge. Coronado is too big and buses suck. Port Orleans – nice hotel, very big and buses also are terrible but you can ride boats to Disney Springs. Boardwalk area, yes, they are expensive but you are right there in between Hollywood and EPCOT. You can go through EPCOT and ride monorail to Magic Kingdom. I think that most rooms are pretty much exactly the same no matter what hotel, bed, bathroom, fridge, etc… Villas are different and little nicer, but not that big a difference unless you get a suite or one-bedroom.
I think all hotels need updating from time to time. However, that does not mean gutting a room and replacing it with nothing that is themed, with the exception of a picture on the wall. This “updating” process of historically beloved hotels is obviously just plain and just plain cheap.Non-Disney owned hotels are far more themed than the “updated” hotels. I hate what they have done to the Little Mermaid rooms at AOA and the Pirate rooms at the Caribbean. Thanks for the review…I agree, the Wilderness Lodge is the best!
