Who Are The People In Black Veil Brides?

Black Veil Brides is a metalcore quintet from Hollywood, California, formed in 2006. The current lineup consists of lead vocalist Andy Biersack, lead guitarist Jake Pitts, bassist Ashley Purdy, and guitarist Jinxx. The band has been touring the UK since June 2018, with their first show in Norwich in 2023. The band’s music has been praised for its quality and live performances.

The band’s founder and lead vocalist, Andy Biersack, is the only remaining original member of the band. In 2014, he started a solo music project under the moniker Andy Black and released his debut album, The Warped Tour. The band’s music video was directed by Vicente Cordero and produced and mixed by Erik Ron.

Black Veil Brides has a discography of six studio albums, five extended plays, 25 singles, 23 music videos, and one short film. They have also released a special ultra-limited-edition series of AP 384, featuring Andy Biersack, Jake Pitts, Jinxx, and Christian CC Coma.

The band has faced criticism for its live performances and negative comments from well-known artists like Five Finger Death Punches, Ivan Moody, and All. The critically acclaimed music video for “Bleeders” is now available, inspired by the dark tale of Sweeney Todd.

In 2016, interviews with the band members were conducted on YouTube, covering their early days and more recent developments.

What is the Black Veil Brides controversy?

People tend to get subconsciously jealous of those who brag about a party lifestyle they covet the experience of people who are doing what they love for a living; theyre envious when they think one of the members has a record-producer father. Theres been controversy over negative comments made about the band by people as well-known as Five Finger Death Punchs Ivan Moody and All That Remains Phil LaBonte, whove hinted that Black Veil Brides are anything but metal.

Granted, Black Veil Brides lyrics deal with typical heavy metal topics. They are aimed at those who feel like outcasts in society, the underdogs and disenfranchised. They like to embrace the weirdos, and they constantly tell their fans to believe in themselves and make the most of their lives. However, I finally figured out that my problem with Black Veil Brides has nothing to do with the argument over whether they are or are not metal. They clearly are.

The problem here seems to be that the band edges a little closer to the emo tag than the world of old-school metal fans would like thats all. Their name even tells all: Black Veil Brides is a Roman Catholic term used for when a woman marries into the church, giving up all the pleasures of life in order to devote herself to God. Its both positive and negative, a wedding and a funeral.

Combine that dark, heavy (nowadays deemed as emo, in a lot of cases) with music that reaches a younger generation and a fuck-you attitude, and the older generation of metalheads pretty much the largest gets rubbed the wrong way. And the band has also evolved immensely. Each new record is quite different from the previous one, and those changes in influences, style, and attitude have also affected their physical appearance as well. Sometimes, that makes it hard to take a band seriously when A) theyre so young and B) they demand respect for their consistent music.

In an interview withLoudwire, he stated Im not a religious person but I grew up in a religious family. I went to the funeral for my grandfather, a person that I love very much, and everyone is speaking about how he went toHeavenand how hes in Heaven. I always fight with that, because I would love nothing more to believe that my grandfather is in the clouds playing Xbox 460 sic or whatever awesome stuff they have up in Heaven, but I cant.14.

Stage injuries. Biersack has suffered quite a few injuries while performing with Black Veil Brides, most notably his fall from a 15 foot pillar on June 18, 2011 inHollywood. In an attempt to jump back onto the stage, he fell forward and hit his chest on the edge, which resulted in 3ribs shattered(3 lower left), and one displaced.1516The band was only three songs into their set, but he got back up on the stage and finished it despite the severity of his injuries. That particular injury caused Black Veil Brides to have to miss the first week of theVans Warped Tourin 2011.17On October 26, 2011, while on another tour in theUK, Biersack broke his nose on the drum riser while performing a gig inLuxembourg, resulting in more missed tour dates. However, two days later, he performed with Black Veil Brides inLondon.1819.

What does the veil symbolize in the Black Veil?

Motifs & Symbols to Look For. The Black Veil. The symbol in “The Ministers Black Veil” is, of course, the black veil. Made of a fabric typically worn at a funeral, the black veil covers all of Mr. Hoopers face except for his mouth and chin. While people can still see his faint smiles, they fear the veil and what it means. Allegorically, the veil is a symbol of the sin that separates people from God, and from each other. Since every person sins, every person is separated from perfection by the guilt and secrecy of their own veiled sins. Hoopers veil gave the Puritans the opportunity for a scapegoat to fear, rather than deal with their own inherent sinful natures.

What is Mr. Hooper’s secret sin?

Symbolsedit. The black veil is a symbol of secret sin and how terrible human nature can be. This could represent the secret sin that all people carry in their hearts, or it could be a representation of Mr. Hoopers specific sin, which some readers think to be adultery. Hooper as Everyman bearing his lonely fate in order to portray a tragic truth; and there is the implicit one of human imbalance, with Hoopers actions out of all proportion to need or benefit.12 Edgar Allan Poe speculated that Minister Hooper may have committed adultery with the lady who died at the beginning of the story, because this is the first day he begins to wear the veil, and that a crime of dark dye, (having reference to the young lady) has been committed, is a point which only minds congenial with that of the author will perceive. Minister Hooper also seems to be unable to tell his fiancée why he wears the veil due to a promise he has made, and is not willing to show his face to the lady even in death. Finally, two funeral attendees see a vision of him walking hand in hand with the girls spirit.13.

In a different view, the black veil could represent the Puritan obsession with sin and sinfulness. Puritans held beliefs of predestination and that only Gods elect will be saved when the day of judgement comes, and this weeding out process of finding the saved versus not saved was a large part of Puritan life. The reaction to the ministers veil is one of annoyance and fear, I dont like it, muttered an old woman, as she hobbled into the meetinghouse. He has changed himself into something awful, only by hiding his face.14 We are given no clues in the story up to this point as to how or why or when the minister came to have the black veil over his face, it is just there, and as far as we are told the minister is doing nothing different from his normal routine. The one and only difference is a simple veil covering his face and the way his congregation thinks about him now. This is Hawthorne criticizing the overly judgmental nature of the Puritans belief on sin, for them sin was an undeniable mistake, Hooper need not have committed any specific sin; for the hardened Puritan, his humanity was sinful enough, and he wore it the way the medieval penitent would his hair shirt. Anything less than absolute perfection was absolute corruption15.

On the next page following the old womans quote Hawthorne uses the narrator to point out what the congregation is really feeling on the inside, even though their outward reaction displays something entirely different, A subtle power was breathed in his words. Each member of the congregation, the most innocent girl, and the most hardened of breast, felt as if the preacher had crept upon them, behind his awful veil, and discovered their hoarded iniquity of deed or thought.16 This iniquity of deed or thought seems to hark back to the Spanish inquisition (hence the use of iniquity) and suggests the Puritan congregation is starting to realize their own faults: that being the overly harsh judgement they put on the minister and anyone else for superstitious things such as a black veil. The fear ultimately draws from the congregations thoughts over being saved or not being saved. They sound loud and proud in being critical of the minister for his veil, but they are clearly weak and not confident inside their own minds about their personal salvation, so the harsh judgement of others could possibly be seen as a way to relieve themselves for a people were never sure about whether they were really going to heaven.17.

  • Who ever said you needed to be so cruel as to attack someone else’s opinion about a band? If she finds comfort in a band and their music then let it be. Why are you here fighting with her about her band instead of hanging with your real friends? I mean seriously there is no need to be mean to anyone about something they love.

  • Honestly they have some good songs but I cannot stand their fanbase treating them like their the next legendary metal band…. they’re not even metal OMFG. I liked their first ep, morticians daughter is a good song tbh. I think the band is genuine but the fans make them out to be more than what they are. Also omfg noisey im in love with series… thank you ;~;

  • well i tried to listen to this band, but it’s basically impossible when you grew up in a household where parents played Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd,King Crimson,Rush,The Doors all of those great classic rock bands. I discovered Metallica,Megadeth,Sepultura,Slayer in 4th grade. There are a lot of bands who write emotional lyrics and play dark music like The Cure,Joy Division,Opeth,Katatonia. To me these bands are on a higher level; if you’re a teenager who likes BVB, probably won’t get it

  • I appreciate more bands than BVB, but there was a really grim time in my life where suicide was nearly the only option. I’m not even joking right now, and they helped pull me out of the darkness, so, I take the rude remarks very seriously, since these guys were practically guardian angels to me, in the HELL I lived in. And instead of singing shitty ass songs about getting high, or fucking cheap whores, they ACTUALLY WRITE GOOD,MEANINGFUL LYRICS, and aren’t cheesed over like most “pop” boybands.

  • In all honesty, BVB aren’t remotely heavy. The dress hardcore but their music is practically pop with guitars and sporadic screaming. All their fans are not “individuals” the follow the ban because they like the idea of being “individual” but like the tenacity or imagination to do so. They also romanticise mental illness which really pisses me off. Conclusion (TL;DR): They are a sheepish cult who follow a group of other people who see the gap in the market and exploit it for personal gain. Anyone who proffeses to be “not like other girls” is exactly the same as every other girl that says that they are “not like other girls” and anyone who goes on about how depressed they are to everyone isn’t actually depressed.

  • They went through hard times? They have gone through nothing more than being ridiculed like almost everyone else deals with at one point or another. They are doing nothing out of the ordinary and are even lesser than most. You want to see a band that has went through hard times, go to wikipedia and read abit about the black metal band Mayhem.
