How did you get started in fashion and e-commerce? I started in fashion and e-commerce with a background in computer science. The Internet changed how we shop. It made shopping more efficient. Even at Microsoft, I saw the potential of this digital landscape. I started making my own websites and selling things on eBay. As I started my business, I used my love of e-commerce to help me. I eventually focused on women’s fashion for many reasons. The womens fashion segment is attractive because of its high conversion rates, healthy profit margins, and visual appeal.
Why did you create Azazie? Azazie was created because of a personal experience. In 2012, my wife was looking for a wedding dress. She found it hard to find a dress she liked and that she could afford in a bridal shop. This led us to change the way brides shop for dresses. My wife found her solution in China by working with a local dressmaker. She was able to make her dream gown in just a month for a fraction of the cost of similar gowns in U.S. bridal stores. Her bridesmaid dresses cost 50% less than similar dresses in U.S. bridal stores. I was inspired to make this approach accessible to others after seeing the savings. That’s how Azazie was born. I started an online platform where customers could order dresses made by my wife’s dressmaker. The journey was challenging, but I learned a lot. I learned about fabric, necklines, trains, and embellishments. I kept going because I wanted to make affordable elegance accessible.

I always knew I had wonderful parents. I just never realized they were freaking saints until I was an adult. My parents never tore me down. Never made me think I wasn’t good enough. Always supported me. They came down on me when I messed up, but never hurt me or attacked me psychologically. I just don’t understand why some people have children when they obviously don’t have the temperament to be a parent. I know I would make a terrible mother, and so I chose not to have kids.
Mom is just jealous. Daughter is gorgeous and charming. Also when you’re daughter asks you if she looks like she’s losing weight or anything about her appearance/body, you say, “you look beautiful”. Whatever the question is, the answer is “daughter, you’re beautiful”. What matters is if she’s healthy, and how she feels about herself. I can’t imagine ever speaking to my daughter this way. It’s truly heartbreaking.
