How long were Diana and Dodi together?

Princess Dianas romance with Dodi Fayed, the Egyptian-born film magnate, was just beginning when the two died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997. Now, their relationship has taken centerstage in the sixth and final season of Netflixs The Crown.

The show first introduced Dodi (played by Khalid Abdalla) in Season 5s third episode, Mou Mou. As the son of billionaire Mohammed Al Fayed, who formerly owned Harrods department store and The Ritz Paris, Dodi is desperate to eke out his own success, particularly setting his sights on the film industry. Meanwhile, Season 5 also showed the long and messy road to divorce between Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Prince Charles (Dominic West). Eventually, their paths converge—and youll have to tune into Season 6 to see their full story.

In real life, Diana and Dodi started dating after she took Prince William and Prince Harry to St. Tropez to vacation with his family. Later, model Kelly Fisher would claim that she and Dodi were still engaged at the time the tabloids started reporting on his romance with Diana. (Fisher is portrayed by Erin Richards in The Crown.)

Diana told her biographer years after her wedding that Camilla wore gray, not white. “I knew she was there,” she said, referring to Camilla’s appearance at her wedding. I looked for her. Walking down the aisle, I saw Camilla, wearing a pale gray, veiled pillbox hat. I saw her son, Tom, on a chair. I still remember it clearly. Another reason for speculation was the late queen’s attendance at her son’s wedding to Camilla. Elizabeth didn’t go to the wedding in Windsor, but she went to the blessing afterwards. Since Charles and Camilla were divorced, Charles could remarry after Diana’s death. Camilla’s ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, was still alive, so the rule didn’t apply to her. Elizabeth, the head of the monarchy and the Church, gave them permission to marry, but she didn’t want to ignore the Church’s teachings. She decided not to attend the legal service as a compromise.

Did Camilla give Charles a wedding ring?

Queen Camilla’s ring is one of the most famous royal jewelry pieces. King Charles III got his own wedding ring during his coronation on May 6th, 2023. The seven-stone piece is an Art Deco design with a 5-carat emerald-cut diamond in the center, flanked by three smaller diamonds. The baguettes look to be set with metal rims, emphasizing the diamonds’ facets. The stunning ring lets the stones take center stage. It’s not known where it came from, but it was given to the Queen Mother after Queen Elizabeth II was born in 1926. King Charles and his grandmother were close. Their bond helped him through growing up in the public eye. This makes the ring he chose for his bride-to-be even more special. The ring is worth about £210,000. It was worn by a previous royal owner in the 1980s. Many famous women have worn the classic emerald cut engagement ring, including Beyoncé Knowles, Sophia Richie, Amal Clooney, and Jacqueline Kennedy. It’s used to being around royalty from all kinds of spheres. Our Design Director, Kate Earlam-Charnley, says the classic feel of the piece suits Queen Camilla’s elegance and poise, making it the perfect choice of engagement ring.

  • And to think that Charles had no intention of honoring his vows or his marriage. He was already in a full affair with Camilla and planned to continue it. None of them cared about Diana at all – just put her in an impossible situation and never gave her any support. Then blamed her when she got upset about his affair and the sham they enticed her into under false pretenses. Such a shame. But she rose above it and became the symbol of grace and dignity despite the mistreatment she received by that family. I’m glad we have a new chapter in the royal family with William and Harry who will restore some honor to the monarchy. I wish the queen, Phillip, Charles and Camilla could just fade into the sunset and we could start anew with the new generation.

  • The reason Diana was so classy is (like the Queen Mother) she was raised to be a Lady. She was raised to know how to be someone, how to walk, talk, act and look like a true Lady and someone who knew many skills. She knew how to do just about anything (however basic) and it shined through on this wedding day.

  • While I cannot confirm this in any way I believe the “Prince of Denmark’s March” was chosen here for a specific reason…for those who don’t know Prince Philip (Charles’ father) was originally Prince of Denmark and Greece before he renounced those titles before his marriage to Elizabeth II. Philip held those titles as a scion of the Danish royal family thus making Charles a scion of that same family as well. This march was in fact composed in honor of Prince George of Denmark (consort to Queen Anne) who himself was a younger son of King Frederick III of Denmark and a distant cousin of both Philip and Charles by direct male line.

  • They both look so happy when they got to those steps smiling and chatting. How could it have gone so wrong?? Perhaps if Camilla left him alone and not bothered him it could of been so different. He swears he said his good byes to her. But it’s been said she would never give him up well she’s got her man now but look at the devastation she caused. Bloody woman face like a car crash, he’s spent loads to sort her out

  • I remember this day very well because it was my wedding anniversary and not one single friend or family member called ME. Just because some homely British prince was getting married. These were the days before the Internet took off. There were no Facebook, Instagram etc. reminding anyone of anything.

  • No offense, but he is one doofy lookin dude! She on the other hand is absolutely Perfect! Princess Diana=Absolute Perfection!! She didn’t deserve to leave this world the way she did! This is why I believe their should be laws against the paparazzi. Now if you’re one of these celebs that use the cameras for attention(I’m lookin at you Kar-trash-ians!) that’s your own damn fault when they print garbage about you. But when you’re a celeb like Princess Diana and you’re trying to make the world better and things like that, then you deserve your privacy! Not to mention their driver that night was drunk as a damn skunk! At least her boys are making her proud! I know Harry’s had a few slip ups here and there but he really does have a good heart. And William has def grown into a fine man that would make any mom beam with pride! Not to mention, he sticks by Kate’s side 100% and you can tell that they truly love each other.

  • Wow, princess Diana wedding was huge.it was the big deal wedding of the century. Perfect, nobody can’t ever replace her nor a moment like this. I miss her. She got married in 81, I came in the USA in 87. But for some strange reason I keep feeling her wedding was later after I came here and I was perusal it. Don’t know why? Very odd.

  • 41 years ago, she married the numpty Charles who was so unworthy of her. Today is 31 August 2022 and 25 years ago on this day, we lost Princess Diana. She was only a year older than me and as I watched her walking with her dad, I was transfixed by her extraordinary beauty. The world still mourns the loss of the goddess that was Diana. Tampon Charles will go down in the history books as the next King and his shag Camilla as Queen consort. But Diana’s name her altruistic heart, her courage, kindness, her great humanity and her exquisite beauty will live forever. May her memory be eternal 💝💔💝

  • this wedding, although was probably complex to pull off.. looked quite effortless and simple as it happened. One thing today, I feel like people go out of the way to dress up the venue and church and just go crazy and it doesn’t look good at all… like here no crazy decorations. The ladies getting married today show so much skin, Diana wore probably a half of a mile of fabric and materials and looked stunning. And the Spencer crown just glistening, that is one thing I will say about royal/aristocratic jewels, there is nothing like their sparkle. A lot of people that have met the queen, comment how radiant the diamonds are… like beyond.

  • Princess Diana was such a pure soul. She was kind, a bit cheeky, as beautiful inside as she was outside. Charles would be a more popular king if he hadn’t been such a cruel, lying cheating, selfish jerk to Diana. When Charles & his former side chick pass on, there won’t be the outpouring for them as there was for Diana. Sure, some people might be a bit sad. There will not be the sea of flowers & tributes. Possibly, some people might be relieved to have William & Kate as their ruling monarchs.

  • It truly was a day of what fairy tales are made. But we all know that all fairy tales are not true. And therein lies the reality of C&D’s marriage. They created two beautiful boys though, and so I’m sure they’d both agree they’d do it all over again just to have W&H. It was a magical day though. When the entire world seemed to be peaceful – happy to share this moment together.

  • Am I the only not in love with the dress? The puffy sleeves, the wrinkly fabric, the overwhelming train? I read somewhere that the veil or the train was attached to her tiara so all that weight probably became painful. Every time I see her step out of the carriage I become mortified of the wrinkles! The designers must have been too. It’s not anyone’s fault though. That much fabric and dress wasn’t bound to remain unscathed within that small carriage.

  • And Brads dad former truck driver had more charisma and status than Philips!! Even he was there at the Miraval wedding. See we did all that in our very own royal castle!! Our Angie made sure that she nudged both his parents forward from time to time !! After all that was Hollywood Royalty!! No joke right!!

  • She was dropdead beautiful, so naturally noble and feminin. And still, this wedding was a bit over the top. Everything was big big big, even her dress, that train. Artificially blown like a ballon. The Queen smiled happily as did Philip but not Diana. They had their doll walking down die aisle, no matter how she felt. It seems to me that this oversized wedding of the century was covering the enormeous misfit of the whole event, was to cover a fake life ahead. And the bubble exploded years later. Sad.

  • At that moment every young girl was in full envy of Diana’s so called fairy tale wedding but little did they know that Diana was to be the most unluckiest princess to exist because sadly love was never a part of the ceremony. Poor Charles looked miserable and sweet Diana so naive and innocent to the hell she was to enter. The Earth lost a beautiful rose when she left but God knew she was too special for this place
