The processional order of a wedding ceremony can be confusing, but it is important to consider the options available to the bride and groom. If the groom’s mother is widowed, she should be escorted to her seat by an usher or groomsman. If the bride has a stepmother, she would be escorted to her seat by a groomsman before the mother of the bride. The bride’s mom should be the last person to be escorted down.
Widowed parents of either the bride or groom may prefer having someone by their side during the ceremony, and their companion is treated as an honored guest. Reservations for out-of-town guests are the responsibility of the mother of the groom. In Jewish weddings, both parents walk the bride down the aisle, while in Christian weddings, if the bride’s father isn’t able to walk her, the mother of the bride can escort.
For non-denominational or secular weddings, the groom might opt to escort his mother down the aisle and to work the room, sit at the parents’ table, and dance with the father of the bride. The mother of the groom should also offer support for both the bride and groom before, during, and after the wedding planning process.
As the wedding begins, the groom’s mother will be escorted down the aisle by the head usher or a family member. If the groom’s mother wants her son to escort her down the aisle, then his father will follow right behind. The parents of the groom can follow either together as a couple or escorted separately by an usher, son, or other option.

Does the mother have to be escorted down the aisle?
If the mother of the bride is taking part in the wedding processional, she is traditionally escorted by a close male relative like a son or brother or may enter alone. If the parents are divorced, she may be escorted by her partner. In some cases, a groomsman or best man will escort her down the aisle.
Processional traditions go back many centuries. When arranged marriages were common, fathers would bring their daughters to the wedding and walk them down the aisle to meet their husbands for the first time. The bridesmaids helped the bride-to-be prepare for the wedding and were part of the procession.
There are many ways to make your processional unique. You can accomplish this by having different members of your family or wedding party walk in the processional, either ahead of you or with you. Dont feel constrained by only including those family members who are traditionally in the procession.
What is the protocol for stepmother at a wedding?
For the wedding ceremony, the biological mother of the bride is seated closest to the aisle, in the front row. This gives the father of the bride, who will be walking the bride down the aisle easy seating access. The brides immediate family will be seated directly behind the mother of the bride/ her parents. If the brides parents are divorced, the stepmother should be seated on the third row back in the second seat from the aisle. The empty seat to her right would be for the brides father.
If all of this sounds just too complicated, have a friendly chat with everyone – its entirely possible to bury old issues and be civil, and who knows even friendly, for the day. If divorced parents really dont get along, its best to seat them at separate tables at the wedding reception, the same distance away from the bridal table, at the reception. Family photos can be tricky and time-consuming. Professional photographers know the drill and will be able to assist with all the combinations. When parents of the bridal couple are divorced and have new spouses (or not) it may be wise to separate the different groups. Or throw all caution to the wind and have one mass photo taken from a higher vantage point with all the family.
Who walks the stepmother of the bride down the aisle?
A groomsman. This is the traditional choice, giving the guy more time in the spotlight. If the bride has a stepmother, a groomsman will escort her to her seat before the mother of the bride. The brides mom should be the last person to be escorted down the aisle.
Her Son. He doesn’t have to be an adult. A willing teen or preteen will do. No matter the son’s age, guests will be delighted to see this heartwarming duo walking down the aisle arm in arm.
Her brother. Another good choice? The mother of the bride’s brother. If the father can’t, the brother can escort his sister to her seat. It’s sweet to give someone not usually involved in weddings a small role.
Does the groom dance with his stepmother?
Dance with the Groom. Traditionally, a groom dances with his mother during the reception. There are a few ways he can handle the situation with a stepmother: dancing only with his mother, dedicating a separate dance to both his mother and stepmother, or splitting one song between the two ladies. A groom should think about his relationship with the women and choose the best option for the dynamic.
Who normally walks the groom’s mother down the aisle?
For a Non-Denominational or Secular Wedding. If you arent having a religious ceremony, there are a number of options to consider. The groom might opt to escort his mother down the aisle and to her seat in the front row, followed closely behind by the grooms father. This gives the groom an opportunity to give his parents a hug before taking his place at the altar. The grooms parents can also walk down the aisle together, followed by the groom as he walks alone. Or the groom might opt to use one of the above options, such as walking down the aisle with both of his parents. If the groom and groomsmen were greeting guests upon arrival, they may choose to simply take their place at the altar before the processional begins, instead of formally making an entrance. And of course, you can create your own tradition! You might want to both enter the ceremony alone, or could walk down the aisle together, symbolizing the beginning of your journey as a couple.
What is the protocol for the mother of the groom?
Manage your son’s family. Ask how many guests you can invite, then make a list of who’s coming from your side of the family. Respect the guest limit. Keep track of RSVPs and follow up with late RSVPs. Let the couple know about their wedding registry. Your future son- or daughter-in-law will love your help here.
Offer to help with the costs. Weddings are expensive. The brides family usually pays for most of the wedding, but the father and mother of the groom sometimes pay for some things. This can include:
Engagement and wedding rings; Marriage license; Officiant fee; Bouquet; Wedding suit; Boutonnieres and corsages; Rehearsal dinner; Reception music; Honeymoon.
Does the mother of the groom sit on the aisle?
Seating Family. Seating married parents. The parents of the bride always sit in the first pew or row on the left, facing where the ceremony will be held; the grooms parents sit in the first row on the right. At same-sex marriage ceremonies, the couple might assign each family a side, and seat guests on Bills side or Kevins side accordingly. If the site has two aisles, the congregation sits in the center section. The brides parents sit on the left side of the center section and the grooms parents on the right.
Seating widowed parents. Widowed parents of either the bride or groom may prefer to have someone by their side during the ceremony, and it is perfectly correct to do so. Their companion is treated as an honored guest.
Seating divorced parents. When either the bride or grooms parents are divorced the seating needs to be planned carefully and the ushers need clear instructions. It can be tricky: Divorced parents may or may not get along, or the bride may be close to one parent and not the other. Tact and diplomacy will be critical for keeping the peace.

It’s seems to have a double meaning, IMO. Sometimes people don’t like the person their partners become over the years, and they keep ‘killing’ them by being rude, demanding, indifferent and so on in an attempt to get back the one they fell in love with. Longing for that older version to come back and failing every time. Refusing to admit it’s probably them (partly, of course) responsible for that change. A vicious circle, for both.
At first when her hand was wounded, there was no blood. She couldn’t have felt any pain, but still she jumps and jerks her hand away to examine. She is totally immersed in the pseudo reality created around her. I think when he says she is faulty, he means that she is turning into a human being. He doesn’t want her to be same as his wife, he just wants an updated version of her, who is filtered off all the things he doesn’t like in her.
Spoiler alert…… Maybe he is attempting to build a replacement wife without negative human qualities. He asked “You don’t like it here?” And stated “You’re far too emotional.” Perhaps he murdered his human wife in a fit of rage bc she wasn’t what he deemed the ideal partner. The cycle will continue with him “killing” his wives unless/until she is “perfect.”
I have a feeling, even though she is a robot, that he was trying to recreate someone he knew, maybe a depressed wife who took her own life, why make her to be a depressed house wife, why give her the impression of a husband and wife relationship scenario, why give her the sense of emotions and then deny it, just creeps me out.
We don’t know what kind of person his wife was or what sort of relationship they had, but her android version probably gives us clues on both. This version didn’t quite work for him, so as a technologist, consumed perhaps in fashioning a more suitable wife, he’s starting over with a new android. A dark commentary on how men and women typically relate to one another. Terrific short film!
I think his wife committed suicide. He said the robot wife was too emotional and when he came into the kitchen, he changed the weather view from sad rain to happy sunny skies. He said the rain was too depressing. At the end of the story, the new wife was so happy and perky which I guess is what he wanted.
Could you please include the year a short was originally released? While I can understand the potential reasons for wanting to obscure this information, it can also provide very important, sometimes necessary context for the film. Even “timeless classics” are better, more appropriately understood within the context of the time they were produced and released in.
I love that the sparse, dark decor completely reflects the angst of their, incredibly sad, situation . Much food for thought here as this technology is already on the doorstep . It’ll be a tragic turn of events if robots become sentient enough to genuinely love humans – the “LAW”, as it stands, is certainly not equipped for those potential scenarios…
I’m so tired of people throwing around the terms ‘narcissist’ and ‘gaslighting’, and especially to blame men. This guy isn’t being narcissistic towards the female – the female is NOT REAL, and IT is defective. If he seems cold towards it, that’s partly why, but also – he’s GRIEVING! Dressed in black, pale, sad and obsessing about bring his wife back – he’s in pain. But people are so indoctrinated by current politics though, they’ll even take the side of an android against a grieving man who’s obviously struggling with his wife’s death and is facing it ALONE. Jeez!
Re: Devina210 wrote, “It has a Twilight Zone-esque feeling to it.” It should. It borrows a bit from Twilight Zone, S1E7. A guy (Jack Warden) is left on a prison planet. The loneliness was unbearable save for a supply ship that came every few months. On one trip however, they bring him an attractive automaton and his life changes. In the end however, she gets ‘unplugged’ when his sentence is commuted and the supply ship brings him back to earth, sans girl.
At least he agreed to the weekend out she was asking for. A man does not always understand how hard it is to keep a household together, and the house clean… for the same reason that women who stay at home don’t always understand the pressures of work for the sole bread winner. It inevitably creates tension.
Like many men today…true narcissists that cannot love and will forever want to replace their partners for impossible perfection while they themselves are the most damaged, vapid soulless monsters always so nice at the beginning and surely the mask slips with time into this. Sad but true. This is a film depicting this sad reality.
So many people here who either didn’t watch to the end, or just didn’t understand that she’s NOT a woman – she’s a robot, a faulty robot. And he’s depressed and disengaged because it’s faulty and he’s still grieving. If the roles were reversed and she was real, but lacking warmth due to grief, would you criticise her for being depressed and cool when dealing with a faulty robot?
Found this one way too straight forward. You know the whole story within a few seconds of the start. I thought there would be some twist like he was the android and the basement was him climbing back into a charging station or something while she worked on fixing his flaws. Her adjusting his programming would be why he suddenly gave her an anniversary present and agreed to the trip, but nope. It was exactly what it looked like from the start.
I bet she’s an ai….ok, so I was right…..you know what else I know is that she won’t remember his cruelty, because trying to punish her is just punishing himself, he is creating his own prison. The old version of her doesn’t have to be her, the victim, she can be anything else she wants, she just has to dream herself into a reality, of everything bad being already done to her. And everything that happens in the future, she has a positive way of seeing it, and reaping positive results, because she can project a positive future for herself. We are all One. But we can chose what we want to remember, and I want to remember nicer things and less of the trauma and drama. So even though, this is a hypothetical person, actually, what really are we anyway, what makes one human and one ai? Maybe deep down consciousness is underlying everything and everyone and we just are one.
Be nice to be able to reboot your wife, the memory in mine is mega. But it should be able to work both ways. Imagine if you could do that, the advantage is then none for either, so both would be equal. So what would be a real life experience then? Guess if this is not for you (as if it’s real) you have to try in life and do what comes naturally to you whether your partner (SO) agrees or not. Failing that you do not have a natural relationship based on pure love. Each relationship has it’s merits and pitfalls working through them with each other is the life. isn’t it?
Saw your dinosaur maze “moment of your life” and the joker card in it. It is dead on arrival. I told you I am now bullet proof, in soul and everything else. Indifferent! Neither here or there, which makes everything you do useless. Both were at the front desk, like everything else you try to manipulate me with. Happy Canada messed up Day!
(*SPOILER ALERT*) I think her being a robot programmed by him is just a metaphor. The film is really about people wanting their partner to be not just fitting, not just almost perfect, but perfect. Ironically, that illusion keeps people from actually seeing who and what their partner is, keeps them from getting close.
We all are an algorithm of cause and effect since birth which causes us to act one way or another. In a way, we are programmed like a computer. My belief is consciousness (or the soul) steers our mind to lead us toward better outcomes. The end goal of the game of life will always be uncertain. My guess is he, based on his appearance of being narcissistic, focused entirely on his work and neglected his wife which resulted in her committing suicide out of loneliness in their dystopian world. Maybe he cheated on her with an AI he was creating and she caught him thus committing suicide (reason for the tight security). Either way, he feels guilty and wanted to undo what he did by playing god. I suspect he noticed his latest AI wife already fell off the rails based on how they were both acting causing him to develop an updated version tweaking the algorithm; unfortunately, it will never happen because consciousness cannot be duplicated. It appears he got himself caught in a loop that will never be real leading to endless updates because the AI won’t feed his narcissism.
What makes us human? Definitely not the nagging menace they age into on their way through time from eager love interest to harpyie or hag. This was the dream of quite some writing men over the decades: the vastly enhanced wife consisting only of love and joy and happiness, stripped of all the drama and the aforementioned nagging and menacing, be it Ira Levin’s “Stepford Wives”, be it Alan Ayckbourne’s “Henceforward”, to name just two. The early giveaway in this short was a bit disappointing though, to say the least. And what never ever was looked into, not here, neither in Stepford, nor in Jerome’s apartment, is the question why those gynoids besides all technical finesse still do not work as they should ………
