Why Did Black Veil Brides Stop Wearing Makeup?

Black Veil Brides, a rock band, have returned with a new line-up, fresh approach to music, and two new singles, The Vengeance and Saints Of The Blood. Frontman Andy Biersack cites reputation frustrations as inspiration for their angry new album, which features black makeup, body paint, tight black studded clothing, and long hair. The band’s fictional alter ego, The Wild Ones, inspires the youth to be themselves and revolt against a despotic regime.

Biersack is currently working on the next Black Veil Brides record with super-producer Bob Rock. The band’s lyric “The world will stain us with a scarlet cross” immediately brought Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel from 1850, The Scarlet, to mind. The band’s core is a rock’n’roll spirit that transcends the abuse and false accusations thrown at them.

The tradition of wearing bangles is deeply rooted in Indian culture, symbolizing a married woman’s love, prosperity, and well-being. In North India, the glass bangles worn by brides were believed to bring good luck and blessings to their married life. Veils have played an important and symbolic part in weddings in many different cultures around the world.

Black Veil Brides have announced the departure of bassist Ashley Purdy after 10 years with the band, following a 2020 tour supporting In This. The band has not stopped wearing makeup, but the band’s insufferable fanbase has led to criticism.

Is Black Veil Brides emo?

According to Wikipedia, Black Veil Brides is classified as an “emo” rock band. Not this stereotypical bullshit again. I passionately hate the term “emo” for anything, regardless if its referring to a person or music. Sadly, society often slaps on the “emo” label for my rock bands. This really pisses me off. I prefer to categorize my rock music as part of “scene” genre. My previous post elaborates on my strong disapproval of stereotyping in general. Stereotypes perpetuate a very close-minded perspective on life. Sorry for that slight rant.

Anyway back to my point. Alternative rock genre music has quite a wide spectrum in terms of sound. So this is why I had no idea what to expect with Black Veil Brides. I checked out some of this bands music videos on YouTube. Normally, I dont care to look up music videos. So this is speaking volumes about my level of intrigue in Black Veil Brides. “Heart of Fire” and “In The End” was my official introduction to the bands music. I wasnt expecting such an intense hard rock sound. The much heavier rock vibe of Black Veil Brides is drastically different from dark-wave pop/rock vibe of Andy Blacks The Shadow Side album. Out of all the rock bands I listen to, Black Veil Brides is pretty up there in hard rock vibes. Only my symphonic metal and nu-metal genre bands come close to this type of heavy hard rock sound. Its safe to say I enjoy variety inmy rock sub-genres.

It took me two to three days to get adjusted to the intensity of Black Veil Brides music. The drums, bass guitar, and two electric guitars offered a beautifully complex layering of sound in combination with Andys deep raspy vocals. This is literally the perfect combination. My ears were in love. I was hooked.

On August 2, 2020, following the live stream show which celebrated the re-recording of We Stitch These Wounds, Jeremy Jinxx Ferguson had confirmed that they are working on a new album during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating in an interview with Myglobalmind:

We have been writing up a storm. I cant talk too about what we envision for the next album, but we are revisiting the idea of another concept record like we did with Wretched and Divine. It would be fun to do another concept CD, but well see how things pan out. We have six solid songs written, and we are still writing. Once we do this show, we will head back into the studio to write some more. We have been doing it all ourselves. Jake will be producing it, and we are tracking vocals and guitars at his studio. Im recording the strings at my studio. With COVID going on, we have all been quarantined and working at home, but when we do get together, its just us and maybe our wives. When we are all in the same room bouncing ideas off each other, its a never-ending flood of inspiration and ideas. Im excited for fans to hear what we are coming up with.60.

What happened to the bassist from Black Veil Brides?

In addition to renovating and flipping houses, former Black Veil Brides bassist Ashley Purdy has been actively pursuing a music career on his own since being let go from the aforementioned band late last year. Among his latest output is the below music video for his solo track “King For A Day”, which he directed, produced and wrote the treatment for.

Speaking recently to Altpress.com, Purdy opened up on his mental health struggles, including a number of personal struggles and deaths in the family that led him to therapy. He spoke a bit about that:

“I think going through therapy allowed me to be more honest. And thats all I want to be anymore. When you go through stuff and you live through stuff and you survived it, you have a different perspective on the world and life itself.

What is the Black Veil Brides controversy?

People envy those who brag about a party lifestyle. They envy people who are doing what they love for a living. They’re envious when they think one of the members has a record-producer father. Some well-known musicians have made negative comments about the band, including Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch and Phil LaBonte of All That Remains. They say Black Veil Brides are not really metal. Black Veil Brides lyrics deal with heavy metal topics. They appeal to those who feel like outsiders. They like weirdos and tell fans to believe in themselves. I realized my problem with Black Veil Brides has nothing to do with whether they’re metal. They’re clearly metal. The problem is that the band is seen as emo by some old-school metal fans. Their name means a woman who marries into the church gives up all her pleasures to devote herself to God. It’s both good and bad. The combination of dark, heavy music (nowadays deemed as emo) with a rebellious attitude and a younger audience rubs older metalheads the wrong way. The band has changed a lot. Each new record is different. The band’s appearance has also changed. It’s hard to take a young band seriously when they demand respect for their consistent music.

What religion is the Black Veil Brides?

Black Veil Brides is when a woman marries into the church and gives up everything to devote her life to God.
