Burke left her at their wedding and Cristina returned to Burke’s apartment to find him gone. The abrupt end for Burke’s character was not originally planned, but it came after several months of fallout after a disagreement on set between wearing a white dress and Cristina’s thoughts on it being sexist.
In the final episode of the tenth season, Burke invited Cristina to his hospital to give a speech and offered the hospital’s authority to Cristina for him to move to Milan, Italy. Burke tried to trick Cristina into having a big wedding, but it was Cristina’s fault that she didn’t stop him right there and tell him what she wanted. The network announced that the Season 3 finale, “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” will air on Tuesday at 8/7c. Meredith Grey convinces her to go on, but Burke sees the delay and calls off the wedding, feeling he has forced her to change.

Why was Cristina traumatized?
A shooting at the hospital during an episode of Grey’s Anatomy affected all the characters, but Cristina felt it the most. After operating on her best friend’s husband and being held at gunpoint, Cristina was traumatized. She quit the program and became a bartender. The OR was always Cristina’s safe place. She worked hard to become a surgeon, so it was cruel for her dream to be ruined by such an incident. Cristina never has luck in relationships. Cristina and Owen have a baby. Owen wants the baby, but Cristina doesn’t. He asks her not to have an abortion, but Cristina says she doesn’t want kids. Owen accepts Cristina’s decision and supports her. He gets resentful and cheats on her. Cristina realizes he did it to hurt her for having the abortion. Her husband betraying her for exercising her rights over her own body was wrong. Cristina shouldn’t have been forced to have the baby and shouldn’t have been punished for her decision. Cheating is not rare on Grey’s Anatomy, but this was one of the worst instances.
Why did O’Malley leave Grey’s?
Knight auditioned for the show, expecting a 1-season run. In 2009, after the conclusion of the fifth season, it was confirmed that Knight would not be returning for the shows sixth season. The actor stated the reason for his departure was due to a breakdown in communication with Rhimes, his characters lack of screen-time, as well as his decision to come out as gay. Knight received positive reviews for his performance as OMalley, and garnered a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards. Despite this, his death received mixed feedback from critics and audiences.
Storylinesedit. George OMalley is introduced as a fellow surgical intern along with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers); the 5 of them working under Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson). OMalley and Stevens move in with Meredith, for whom he has romantic feelings but did not express them due to his fear of rejection and the fact that she and one of the attendings Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) had a mutual interest in one another. On the first day of internship, OMalley is selected by chief of cardiothoracic surgery Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) as the first intern to perform surgery. He freezes in the operating room, and is mocked by his peers, and earns the nickname 007 because of almost killing a patient in such a simple operation (referring to James Bonds license to kill). OMalley dates nurse Olivia Harper (Sarah Utterback), breaking up with her when he contracts syphilis from her, which she in turn contracted from Karev. His friendship with Karev is further strained when the two become trapped in an elevator with a patient who begins to bleed out. Karev freezes, and OMalley is able to save the patient single-handedly. He finally admits his feelings to Meredith, and the two have a one-night stand. Meredith tells him they slept together wrong, so he avoids her and dates Callie Torres. During a camping trip, OMalley learns that Torres has slept with Mark Sloan and that Burke is experiencing tremors in his hand. OMalleys father is diagnosed with cancer and a leaking valve. He won’t let Burke operate. He contacts Erica Hahn, Burkes medical school rival. His relationship with Torres is bad when he confronts her about sleeping with Sloan, but he lets her help him through his father’s bad health. His father’s surgery causes complications, and he dies from organ failure. To get over his grief, O’Malley and Torres elope to Las Vegas. He later thinks he made a mistake marrying her and has sex with Stevens when he’s drunk. Stevens says she loves him, so OMalley thinks about moving to another hospital to be faithful to his wife. He can’t transfer because he failed the intern exams. OMalley decides to repeat his intern year and tells Torres he slept with Stevens, which leads to their breakup. OMalley and Stevens had a short relationship but didn’t get along.

Didnt We Almost Have It All is a song recorded by American singer Whitney Houston for her second studio album, Whitney. The song was written by Michael Masser and Will Jennings and produced by Masser. Initially, Houstons cover version of the Isley Brothers For the Love of You was intended to be released as the second single from the album. However, the record label decided to release Didnt We Almost Have It All instead as all of Houstons singles had to be original material at this point of her career. The song was released in August 13, 1987 by Arista Records.
Didnt We Almost Have It All received positive reviews from the music critics, who praised its lyrics, production, and Houstons vocal performance. It became Houstons fifth consecutive chart topper on the US Billboard Hot 100, staying there for two weeks and also reached the top 10 in various countries. A live performance from her September 2, 1987 concert in Saratoga Springs, New York was used as the official video and played on MTV, VH1, and BET. The recorded performance was also televised along with her performance of I Wanna Dance with Somebody at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards on September 11. At the 30th Annual Grammy Awards, it received a nomination for the Song of the Year.
Compositionedit. Jennings recalls that the songwriting process for Didnt We Almost Have It All required several years. It seems like Michael Masser and I worked off and on for years on that song. I dont know how many times I rewrote bits and pieces of the tune… I remember distinctly that we ran (up) over two hundred dollars worth of phone calls from a hotel in Nashville… of course, it was well worth it in the end.2.
Why did Preston Burke leave Cristina Yang?
He began a relationship with intern Cristina Yang but broke it off because he feared it would ruin both of their reputations. However, her miscarriage brought them back together. They lived together in his perfectly-kept apartment. However, after being shot he started to have tremors and they were forced to keep them secret putting a strain on their relationship. After a long time of keeping his tremors a secret, Cristina went to the Chief and confessed everything. Initially, he was engaged in a cold war with Cristina, where neither of them spoke but after she broke the silence, he proposed to her and she accepted.
However, on the day of their wedding, Burke told Cristina that he no longer wished to make her do anything against her will, and Burke realized he was trying to make Cristina the woman he wanted her to be rather than accepting her as the woman she is. Cristina said she thought this was what she wanted. He wanted her to say she knew it was what she wanted, so he left her in the chapel. Cristina then returned to their apartment and discovered Burke had left, taking with him the things that meant something to only him (his trumpet, his Eugene Foote collection, his grandmothers picture, and his lucky scrub cap), leaving Cristina devastated. He told Derek to inform her he quit and sent his mother to collect his things.
Years later, despite having moved on and created a family, Burke evidently still had feelings for Cristina, knowing full-well if he were to work with Cristina again, he would inevitably fall for her again to the point of cheating on his wife with Cristina and ultimately destroy his marriage and his life.
Why did Burke give Christina his hospital?
Cristina is nominated for the Harper Avery award and is a strong candidate, however she is passed over due to her relationship with the Harper-Avery Foundation, that co-owns Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. Cristina goes to speak at a hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, orchestrated by Preston Burke who built his own hospital following his winning of the Harper Avery. He offers Cristina his job as the head of the hospital so that he can spend more time with his wife and kids.
Cristina accepts the offer and interviews candidates for her replacement position at the hospital, including Maggie Pierce for the new chief of cardio. Cristina transfers her hospital shares to Alex Karev and recommends he take over her seat on the board.
At the end of season 10, she says goodbye to her co-workers she has come to know and love including Owen, Derek and Meredith. Cristina and Meredith share special moments reminiscing about all the horrors they went through and dancing it out one last time. Cristina leaves for Zurich with surgical intern Shane Ross, who chooses to leave in order to study under her in Switzerland where she now owns a research hospital. There, Cristina thrives as the new owner.
Why didn’t Christina want to marry Burke?
Heres what happens: Burke gets wheeled into the ER for some heart problem—dying from a condition related to the organ he and his former love specialize in, how poetic! Cristina turns out to be his doctor, and she finds the old feelings she had for him return. Sure, hes on his deathbed, but this is true love. Burkes all she wanted all along, she just wasnt ready for marriage when he was. This is one of these oh-my-god-I-messed-up epiphany moments, and then Burke dies—he dramatically codes—and hes gone forever. Cristina cant handle it, even though her reunion with him lasted only a few short days, so she decides that she has to escape Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and this time, for good. Im free! she cries as she leaves. (Too much?)
See above, but instead of re-falling in love with Burke, Cristina releases all this anger shes been holding in. No matter how much time has passed, he did leave her and then went ahead and put in his resignation without even telling her, so the girl has a right to still be a bit mad. He dies. Shes done with holding onto memories formed in the hospital. She leaves. The end.
Cristina sees Burke and realizes shes meant to be with Owen.
Did Burke get Christina pregnant?
The main abortion plotline is in the first season. Cristina learns she’s pregnant with Preston Burke’s baby. She decides not to tell him and makes an appointment for an abortion. She tells Meredith she’s too young and talented to have a child. But just as Cristina is about to have an abortion, she loses consciousness while operating on a patient. She was miscarrying outside the uterus. Even though she had taken all the steps to go through with the procedure, her pregnancy was terminated by fate, not by her decision.
14Cristina’s pregnancy and loss of the baby take up three episodes of the first season. Cristina’s resolve was the only thing that stood out in this abortion plotline on American TV. Unlike most characters dealing with an unwanted pregnancy, she never faltered. She never doubts herself. She knows what she wants, but she doesn’t think twice about the abortion.

Why does Cristina Yang stop talking?
Cristina was the only one who was awake when the rescue helicopter finally came to rescue the plane crash victims. She stepped into the light and waved to get the pilots attention. She was taken to the Boise Hospital with the others, where Cristina kept on fighting the doctors. They sedated her and tied her to her bed. When Owen arrived, the Chief of Boise told him she thought that Cristina was in a state of reactive psychosis.
Cristina was sedated again before being flown back to Seattle. She remained in her state of reactive psychosis, refusing to speak. While she just laid in bed, her sight was blurry and every sound was muted in her ears. The doctors at Seattle tried to help her, but she didnt react to anything they tried. She reacted for the first time when a couple of interns were talking about her outside her room. She grabbed a vase and threw it at the window, after which the interns ran off. When another doctor interfered with Cristinas case and yelled at Owen and Bailey that she belongs in psych, Meredith once again urged Cristina to talk, but it didnt have any effect.
However, at some point, Owen decided to take her home with him. In the tub, Owen assured her they could figure it out, but Cristina replied that she could never get out. She finally started talking about what happened during the four days they were in the woods. She stayed awake every minute of those days and tried to take care of the other doctors, clearing the bugs out of Arizonas leg and keeping Mark alive. While everyone was asleep, she took care of everyone under the very dark sky. Out of necessity, she had to drink her pee and even the fuel from the plane. She also tried to keep the wild animals off Lexies body, but wasnt successful doing so.8.
Relocating to Minnesota. Soon after, Cristina got out of her state and made plans to relocate to Minnesota, where she took a job at the Mayo Clinic. Cristina talked to Meredith before leaving. Meredith was worried Cristina was running away. Cristina said she was leaving Seattle because bad things kept happening there. Meredith wanted to stick together, but Cristina told her to leave. Meredith yelled that Cristina should leave. Cristina left for Minnesota. After their fight, they didn’t speak for a few months. Meredith left her a voicemail saying Seattle was also good for her. Cristina called to say Meredith was still her person.

Grey’s Anatomy 10×24 ‘Proud of you’
What Burke did was one of the highest forms of love, sometimes you’re just not compatible with the person you love the most & they are either changing to someone you are not Or you are changing them to someone they are not, it’s okay to help others to be a better version of themselves, but it’s never okay to try to “fix” some fundamental parts of their personality, it will only cause them misery & hatred for the rest of their lives, and that’s just Not love.
The way he walked down the aisle, everybody perusal him go, mirrows exactly how he left the Show. And then he told Cristina “If I loved really YOU” – this just kills me. He does love her so much that he doesn’t want her to do something she does not genuinely want. He left her in the church and never came back until season 10, when he tells her he’s married(what did shock me so much! Burke actually returs FINALLY, and they don’t get back together) to the “love of his life” now. But the important Thing is, he told her to take his Job that she can’t ruin his marriage – he admitted that Cristina would still have the ability to do that, so he actually loves her still.
I totally understand Burke’s position here…I mean there is nothing more painful to be so sure about how you feel of someone and be with someone who doubts every single second you are none of them would have been happy the one who is sure will always feel insure of the stability of the relationship and the one who is it will be scared and confused all the time is like a nightmare been there done that you feel you are all by yourself in the relationship.
I remember when I watched this at the time I thought the writers did so well to surprise the audience. I knew Isaiah Washington would be leaving because of the controversy but I didn’t expect Burke to be the one to call off the wedding at all, I thought it would be Cristina. The dialogue here just makes me miss these early seasons so much.
Honestly I always think of what Burke did as a kindness. He knew she wasn’t ready and that ultimately, even though they loved each other, it was likely that it would cause Cristina to resent Burke because she would be forced to change. I think maybe if Cristina hadn’t had this she wouldn’t have had the ability to leave Owen and identify that they wanted different things. She wasn’t willing to change herself to fit him. Although obviously we should give Burke all the credit because regardless of how you feel about the relationship, being left at the alter sucks.
Bailey ruined that part for me by her reaction to being hugged. Always talking about having “raised her babies” and that’s your reaction when one is saying goodbye & that’s the last time you’ll ever see her? Especially one who isn’t a hugger! That should have been sweet, but she killed it acting like it was an annoyance. And it seemed out of place because Bailey has hugged a lot of people before.
