📹 Why did Mallory Wells leave Heartland? Explained
Mallory Wells was a fictional character in the long-running Canadian family drama “Heartland,” which made its television debut on …
Several years ago I actually rode Amtrak with Michael Gross years ago going from Boston to nyc. I then saw him in a play on broadway. I had my introduced myself to him on the ride down. After the performance we ran into each other and walked a block or so together just chatting. He was really very pleasant and I truly enjoyed the moment.
I love this episode from family ties. this is the three part episode when steven has a heart attack snd has to go through a quadruple bypass surgery to save his life. And this is the scene between steven and elysse. it shows how much they actually love and care about each other, not just physically, but mentally, and emotionally etc… steven is such a strong man with courage to endure the major heart bypass surgery and says his loving words and advice and other important information to his wife and eldest son (alex) and loving words and advice to his family family in case he doesn’t make it through the major surgery and elysse is a strong and courageous woman who tries to pull her family together in case steven doesn’t make it through the surgery and advises about how they are going to need to start putting their lives back together. very powerful episode
I find this scene, and this episode really sad now, and I can’t watch the “Heartstrings” episodes anymore. You see, my father had a massive heart attack, and was rushed to hospital. The doctor described it as the worst heart attack he had seen from a still-living patient. My dad was put into ICU, and put into an induced coma. After ups and downs for about eight days, my father crashed, and he couldn’t be revived. He passed away, never having woken up. When I see this ep, and the things the characters say, I can’t deal with it. When Elyse tells Alex if anything happens, she needs him. I am the oldest son, so fit Alex’s role, and I would say the love between my mum and dad was as strong as Stephen and Elyse, and they were best friends, and married for almost 50 years. Also, the line where the doctor said that Stephen recovered, because he had a lot to live for. Well, my dad had a lot to live for as well, but it was just the case that his heart was too damaged to sustain life. He would have if he could have. The difference between living and dying isn’t always about having the will to live. Sometimes that is taken out of your hands. I used to like these episodes, and thought that they were well acted. Now I can’t watch them (this three parter. I can still watch the rest of “Family Ties”), not though any fault of the show, but it is just too painful, and brings back too many memories. I’m glad Stephen Keaton survived his heart attack on the show. It’s a shame that real life doesn’t always follow that script.
Steven Keaton was the perfect comedic “straight man”. His reactions to Nick or his son, Alex were priceless! The time when his kids rented out the house and a rowdy football team brought with them the other team’s mascot (a Kangaroo) mayhem ensued. Later on when Steven was scolding his son he remarked “there was a Kangaroo in my living room!”. Lines like that were what kept the great chemistry going.
I loved this show. Michael Grossman was one of the greatest tv dads! I still watch reruns from time to time and it always amazed me how he and Michael J Fox played off each other. Sometimes you could see MJF turn his head to keep from laughing. It really was one of the best show on tv back then. Times have changed so much, there is nothing on television now that even compares.
I love Michael Gross, the guy has some range – I got to know him as the dad from Family Ties first, then came Tremors and when he became Burt Gummer and became the embodiment of 37th Maxim of The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries\r: There is no ‘overkill.’ There is only ‘open fire’ and ‘reload.’
Absolute stroke of genius on the writers’ part. When Steven wakes up, should he see Elyse or Alex or…no wait. Who’s the first he’d least want to see? Let’s have Nick stroll up. “Heeeeey.” And the extended audience reaction tells you that yes, he threw in the hair rub and kiss. How Gross kept it together I’ll never know 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Remember that episode where I think Mr. & Mrs. Keaton were out of town or something and Alex maybe threw a party of sorts that involved a kangaroo? Trying to remember details from decades ago. But, when the parents return unexpectedly and after order is somewhat restored, I always lost it at Steven Gross’s deadpan “that is my plan” after being asked by the kids if he was going to be angry at them forever.
What started as a pot shot at Ramboism became in this extremely talented actors hands a long running gig. Family Ties premised on 1960s liberal parents having conservative kids….but became in Micheal J Fox hands one of the most charming, endearing characters in TV history….. probably Not the goal of the series creators
As far as other greats-two of the greatest to me belong to one of the greatest TV characters ever -Mike’s goodbye to Archie Bunker when he and Gloria leave for California and the scene where Archie finds Edith’s slipper after her death and begins crying. I almost start crying right at the start of that scene.
I remember that episode. I also remember at 1 point in that episode Mallory & Jennifer said something like we don’t have to worry about getting heart attacks women are practically immune to heart attacks & heart trouble. THAT’S NOT TRUE!!!!!!!! Heart disease is the #1 killer of women & kills more than all the cancer’s combined! Women are even MORE likely to die from it because of the myth they’re practically immune because doctors too often dismiss the symptoms. I guess they’re like ‘nah! It COULDN’T be that!’. I lost my Mom to heart disease & I miss her.
Remember when primetime TV had family oriented shows? Family Ties, Growing Pains, etc… and yes, even The Cosby Show was family oriented We need more family oriented shows again, rather than 6 different versions oif crime scene and crime related shows. Seriously, Two Broke Girls was crass and not funny. Less of that, more of family, because regardless of political differences, the family unit is still the backbone of our society. “Let’s stay together people, let’s work it out.” – Steve Smith, American Dad.
It’s so sad that Family shows like this don’t exist anymore. Nowadays you can’t even watch a “family” show without some damn reference to transgenderism, LGBTQ, same-sex couples or kids that are foul mouthed, and totally disrespectful, and sarcastic to any adult figure on the show. In fact, the last shows I actually watched and enjoyed were Wings and Coach in the early 90’s. You couldn’t pay me to watch the family crap that’s on now, and I wouldn’t even want to! Shows like Family Ties, Happy Days, Growing Pains, and The Cosby Show (minus Cosby’s current indictment obviously) and The Facts of Life all taught good manners, morals and we all learned life lessons from one or more characters. Not to mention, actual CHARACTER was taught….not disrespect!!! Long live the 1980’s family shows!!
What happened to these writers?? Today’s movies and shows are literal SH*T!! I think the actors are capable, but the scripts today are used toilet paper.. Total garbage… I show my 14 yo shows and movies from the 70’s-90’s and he is completely focused and absorbed!! We watch any super hero movie from the past 10 years, we both nod off asleep.. Freaking garbage today…
Nice show… But…could be much better if only they integrated our Lord and God of all creation into it. Never mentioning or thanking the Lord for all the abundance at the dinner table or etc…Sad! For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
