Why Don’T The Collingsworth Family Wear Wedding Rings?

The Collingsworth Family, a renowned American gospel musical group, has chosen not to wear wedding rings as a symbol of their commitment to each other. This decision is rooted in their personal preferences and reasons, including their religious beliefs. The Collingsworths prioritize spirituality and simplicity, viewing marriage as a sacred covenant between them.

The family’s decision to not wear wedding rings is influenced by cultural and religious influences. As devout Christians, they place a special emphasis on the 22Kill Honor Ring, a black band worn on the index finger as a silent homage to all veterans, living and deceased. The Honor Ring represents respect and support rather than just a statement of style.

The Collingsworths’ decision to not wear wedding rings is deeply rooted in their faith and commitment to each other. They believe that the true symbol of their marriage lies in the love, respect, and support of their spouse. The tradition of exchanging wedding rings has been a part of their lives, with Meghan Markle and Harry exchanging wedding bands during their wedding.

The Collingsworth Family’s commitment to cutting-edge arranging, musical excellence, and a proper balance of spiritual emphasis is a testament to their faith and commitment to their spouse.

Does the Bible say not to wear wedding rings?

Biblical Evidence For/Against Wedding Rings. There are a few biblical principles that can apply to the tradition of exchanging wedding rings. In Genesis 2, God designed marriage to be a covenant relationship, so rings can symbolize that covenant bond. Rings represent commitment, as in the Prodigal Son parable when the father gave his son a ring representing his full acceptance back into the family.

However, nowhere in Scripture are believers commanded to wear wedding rings. The Bible emphasizes inner qualities like love and faithfulness far above outward symbols. In fact, 1 Timothy 2 warns against placing too much value on external things like jewelry and fine clothes.

Overall, the Bible does not condemn wedding ring traditions but calls believers to focus more on developing inner godly character in marriage.

The Role of Wedding Rings in Christian Marriage. Wedding rings have come to represent fidelity and lifelong commitment in a Christian marriage covenant. The unbroken circle shape signifies the permanent bond of marriage. Traditionally, rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because an ancient Roman belief claimed that vein connects directly to the heart.

  • Long story but worth the read…. If you have never met this family you are missing out. A few weeks ago I had the honor of seeing them in concert. I snuck in the side of the church (a very large one, seats about 5,000). Sat on the side. I sat beside a woman. I happened to glance over and it was Kim herself. I was amazed. She was sitting there, in the audience perusal the music before they were going to sing. Well, a few groups later they were up there and I have never in my life heard such a sound as I have like what came from them. I moved to the front row, that was literally the only spot left in the building. After the service was over the entire family was out in the auditorium talking to the crowd. I found Kim. I wanted to speak to her. I proceeded to tell her I had been out of church for almost 2 years, I heard that their family was coming that night and I wanted to hear them. She remembered sitting beside me. She hugged me and promised to pray for me. That right there I’ll never forget. What a family and an amazing group singing for the Lord.

  • I just want to say how proud of the Collingworth Family! The beauty of their faces, the standards they’ve held all these years when everyone else seems to be trendy … makes me know God can and does and will use those who live the life of Jesus Christ to its fullness !!! Blessings go with always … don’t ever change !!! Love to you all !!!!

  • Yes thank you for the words they’re so beautiful and a song that brings home the grace of God that is free. I think this song came out around the 1890s that’s when a lot of Catholics were coming over from Europe. They certainly needed them to learn the grace of God is a free gift not of works certainly not from Mary but Christ alone is our salvation!

  • This is arguably the best Christian group out there. Each of them are truly worshipping God and believe the words they are singing. The BEST group Gaither has on it. Best voices of any Christian group and best family group. They are truly THE GOLD STANDARD for harmonising. Literally the BEST harmonies ever. I didn’t think it was possible to top the Gaither Vocal Band harmonies… but here they are… topping all…

  • Years I spent in vanity and pride, Caring not my Lord was crucified, Knowing not it was for me He died, on Calvary. Mercy there was great, and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me; There my burdened soul found liberty, at Calvary. By God’s Word at last my sin I learned; Then I trembled at the Law I’d spurned, Till my guilty soul imploring turned, to Calvary. Oh, the love that drew salvations’s plan! Oh, the grace that bro’t it down to man! Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span, at Calvary. Mercy there was great, and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me; There my burdened soul found liberty, at Calvary. Now I’ve giv’n to Jesus ev’rything, Now I gladly own Him as my King, Now my raptured soul can only sing, of Calvary. Mercy there was great, and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me; There my burdened soul found liberty, at Calvary.

  • “Years i spent in vanity and pride, Caring not my Lord was Crucified..” The sweet memories of our school days came flooding back when we used to practise this song for the Good Fridays .. and this year, God knows how we will witness the Easter. Maybe it’s God’s Plan & Purpose for the cleansing of the World as we have sinned beyond measure .. 😭😭😭

  • Thank you! What a blessing to praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus! Lately as I wake up, I hear a worship song in my spirt put there by the Holy Spirit. And today’s worship song was “At Calvary”! So when God puts a song in your heart: play it, sing it, hum it, etc. For He is imparting a blessing to you through it and He is wanting to connect you more to Him through worship!

  • This is such a great musical presentation. The thing that really makes it for me is the passion and faith with which it is delivered. They really whole heartedly believe what they are singing, and that’s what makes it such a great presentation. Thanks for capturing this wonderful old hymn so beautifully.

  • Looked you up after I heard one of your songs on a local radio station. I’m going through a lot and how your songs have helped me. Feel as if Jesus is comforting me and speaking to me through your beautiful, true songs. May God deeply bless you as you minister to hurting hearts and all you sing in front of……

  • The best rendition I’ve ever heard. We sang this soon for years at Highland Park Wesleyan (Methodist) Church and Wellman Memorial Wesleyan in Louisville. My brother, John would lead us. John went to be with the Lord in Dec 2021. He was excited to learn that Kim was granddaughter of James Riley Cash. James was first cousin of John and my father, Walter Denan Hare….James’ mother, Leona was sister to my grandfather John Wesley Hare….John and our brother Norman, played music for many years in churches and went to many nursing homes sharing song and praise to OUR Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  • Glory to God for the wonderful work done by Gaither Homecoming and Gaither Vocal Band. You have been a blessing touching millions of people such that miles away people can still engage and be blessed. I do not have particular favorites as everything that happens there and all singers are very unique by talent and professional; I am personally very blessed. May the grace of GOD continue pouring anointing on this ministry and help us all to fight a good fight contending for the faith to eventually meet and praise in HIS PRESENCE forever. Let’s also thank GOD for his grace on his servant Billy Graham which has also touches millions of people across the globe and with technology continues to do so; GOD BLESS. Amen

  • I just saw two buses for the Collingsworth family tour towing a trailer behind them on I-10 in Florida. I looked you up online to listen to your music and I’ve got to say I was happy that I saw your buses. You guys really sing nice. You sing songs that I sang in church a long time ago and it was just great to hear you. Your buses are walking billboards. Keep them clean keep on rollin and you all keep singing.

  • Wonderful people singing beautifully. I know these people from youth camps and conventions. Kim’s sister played the piano while I played the bass guitar at the church I attended in Florida while going to College. Talented and God-inspired. Phil, the dad, ran the sound booth in Roxbury, PA called Appalachian Youth Camp.

  • I’ve sung this grand old hymn all my life. Led congregations as we sang it together. But, when I heard this recording by the wonderful Collingsworth Family, it was as though I’d heard it for the very first time! Chills, tears and a shout of JOY as I listen to this wonderful version of a beloved hymn. Thank you, Collingsworth Family for a job well done. This one plays regularly on our radio network!

  • I am grateful to say that I am a born again Christian and have been since I was 19…….I am grateful that we can gather together whether it’d be church congregation choir where two or more are gathered in his name there he will also be! However folks if you don’t know Christ as your savior then it burdens my soul to think that you are headed for a terrible place called Hell where the Bible says the fire is never quenched and the worm dies not! Folks you are not promised tomorrow! If you want to know how to be saved from this horrible reality then please by all means don’t hesitate to comment right back so I can lead you to the savior! 2 Corinthians 6:2 clearly states “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation!” And Hebrews 3:15 clearly states, “Today if you hear his voice don’t harden your hearts! it is not me but the Holy Spirit that I pray reveals to you the truth of his precious gospel……John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes on him will not perish but have everlasting life! V 17 says then V 18 says whoever believes on the son is not condemned but whoever does not believe on the son is condemned already because he has not believed on the son whom God has sent! Also Acts 16:30-31 what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house I am not threatening anyone but just warning them what will happen if they reject this precious gift of eternal life!
