Why Is Marriage Considered Holy?

Marriage is considered holy by Jesus in the New Testament, as it is considered a sacred union between two people who are baptized and serve each other. It is considered a necessary passage into adulthood and a new sacrament in the Jewish faith. In the Bible, marriage is seen as a holy covenant before God, with each person striving to be the best spouse.

Marriage was necessary for God’s purposes to be fulfilled, as it was the vehicle for his two new children to fulfill their job. In Genesis 2:18, God decreed that man’s solitude was not good, and it is considered holy. Many Protestants consider marriage a sacred institution or holy ordinance of God, while Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christians consider it a holy sacrament or sacred mystery.

Marriage is not selfish; it is a vow to give love for life. It is a commitment to give love for life. The act of marriage is sacred because it is a droplet of the ecstasy that the Trinity eternally enjoys together. Every marriage has a divine purpose and significance, setting the union of two people and fulfilling another divine purpose — to establish family, including children raised to love and honor God.

The word “holy” means separate, different, and sacred. The Bible calls Christians to have a marriage that causes curiosity from an onlooking world. However, there are differing attitudes among denominations and individual Christians towards the concept of Christian marriage and the union of Christ and His Church.

In conclusion, marriage is considered holy by Jesus, as it is a sacred union between two people who serve one another and are committed to a life of love and honor.

Where does the Bible say marriage is holy?

Ephesians 5:22–32 shows that a man and a woman’s marriage in this age points to Jesus Christ’s eternal marriage with his church. A husband’s love for his wife and his wife’s Christian submission point to Jesus and his church.

Hebrews 13:4 (along with 1 Thessalonians 4:3–6) says that marriage is the only place for sexual intimacy. God cares about keeping this safe for our good. Revelation 19:6–8 looks forward to a wonderful wedding day for anyone who belongs to Jesus and becomes a member of his church. On that day, those who have struggled with sadness in this life will enjoy pleasures that dwarf the deepest delights of marriage.

Why marriage is a call to holiness?

The love that is at the heart of marriage as a sacrament is also at the heart of marriage as a vocation. We sometimes think of a Christian vocation as a particular lifestyle. These are all different ways of living out the Christian vocation: the Call to love. Married people are called to love each other as Christ loved us. Marriage is about loving another person as Christ loves them. Such love requires Christian virtues. Faithfulness, forgiveness, and growth are important. The church cares about the permanence of Christian marriage because marriage reveals something important. Husband and wife should love each other as Christ loves us. Christ’s love is for sinners and is faithful. As a marriage moves from romance to commitment, couples learn that fidelity means loving another person, with all their flaws. The love in a marriage is a sign of Christ’s love for the couple. Christ came to redeem the pain and struggles in a marriage. We shouldn’t worry if we mess up or are selfish. When a man and woman promise to be faithful to each other, God promises to be faithful to them. This gives them the courage to love. Forgiveness is also important in marriage. In a marriage, we learn that we married imperfect people who need forgiveness. It’s easy to get angry and use hurts against a partner. Forgiveness means not using failures as weapons. Remembering Jesus’ forgiveness helps. He forgave those who denied him and killed him. And he was asked, Lord, how often should someone sin against me and I forgive them? As many as seven times? Jesus replied, “I don’t say seven times, but 490 times” (Matt. 18:21-22).

Why is marriage important spiritually?

But there is a deeper aspect of marriage that applies to spiritual growth specifically. It provides us with the opportunity to balance the male and female energies within ourselves. A marriage can help us to develop qualities within ourselves that we need for our own inner balance and further spiritual growth. This happens as a couple engages in their spiritual life together on a daily basis. Since the purpose of the spiritual life is inner freedom in God, we need to understand how to work toward this inner freedom in marriage. Only by becoming complete within ourselves is inner freedom possible.

This explanation is not what most people have in mind when they think about the purpose of marriage. But it is the spiritual purpose, and it is what gives a marriage deep fulfillment and meaning. It is this deeper purpose that can make all the effort that goes into a successful marriage truly worthwhile. Knowing this also helps us understand how to choose a marriage partner that can help us in this particular way.

As a marriage matures, and the people in it grow spiritually (from their own daily spiritual efforts), there develops a feeling of divine friendship between a couple, rather than a strictly male/female relationship.

Why marriage is a blessing from God?

Your life on earth is not the end of your existence. After you die, your spirit will live on in the world of spirits until the day you are reunited with your body in the resurrection. God wants our relationships to continue forever. This union is possible when a man and a woman and families are sealed in temples. Those with proper authority from God fulfill Jesus’ promise that “whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).

Families stay together forever. Meet with missionaries to learn. Jesus Christ makes families stronger in this life and in the next.

How does marriage make you holy?

Holiness is a feeling of belonging in a covenant relationship. In marriage, holiness is a man committing to belong to a woman as her husband, and a woman committing to belong to a man as his wife. The marriage belongs to them. When everything that belongs in marriage is present, and nothing that doesn’t belong is not, then there is holiness in that marriage. And within that holiness is pleasure, as covenant partners delight in one another. God designed marriage to reflect his holiness. In the Triune God, everything is present. Nothing in the Godhead is out of place.
