Fire Emblem Engage, a new entry in the Fire Emblem series, features unique S-supports and romance options. Players can romance any character they wish, and unlike previous titles, they can spend the last few chapters swashbuckling the Corrupted with their chosen partner. The romance system in Fire Emblem Engage is simple, focusing on improving support ranks by performing various combat actions while beside them on the battlefield.
The only character who can get married is Alear, but some supports between characters are very flirty so players can still ship their love. However, there is no “S” rank available in the game, which may lead players to believe “romancing” someone isn’t possible at all.
In Fire Emblem Engage, players are not limited to specific characters, as they are not limited to specific characters. Instead, they can explore relationships without any gender limitations. Engage Emblems are not romanceable since they are spirits.
While there has been no confirmation of whether or not Engage will have romance options or marriage, it is a reasonable speculation that the game will continue the Fire Emblem tradition of starting romances and relationships. The romances in Fire Emblem Engage are not as in-depth and blunt as those in Fire Emblem Three Houses, but they still provide an inclusive range of romantic options for players to explore relationships without any gender limitations.

Can you romance Nel in Fire Emblem Engage?
Editors Note: There will be spoilers for the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue DLC below.. Upon completing the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue campaign, Gregory, Madeline, Nel, Rafal, and Zelestia become members of your army and characters you can “romance” in the main storyline. Of those five, the Gregory, Nel, Rafal, and Zelestia S-rank conversations all have romantic overtones and feature the characters wearing the Pact Ring on their ring fingers. With Madeline, the conversation indicates a bond, but isnt romantic.
How to romance the Fire Emblem Engage DLC characters. If you want to quickly pair Alear up with one of the newcomers, your best bet is to use Pretty Pebbles and Spirit Gems. These are both items you can find randomly around the Somniel. Theyre guaranteed to increase affection with the person you give it to, with the Spirit Gem being the more powerful of the two. Once Gregory, Madeline, Nel, Rafal, and Zelestia move in, give as many of them as possible to them to unlock conversations. However, know going in that you still need to have the Pact Ring to “romance” one of them.
Fire Emblem Engageisavailable for the Nintendo Switch, as is the Fell Xenologue DLC.
Which gender is better in Fire Emblem Engage?
Should You Be a Boy or a Girl in Fire Emblem Engage? To spit it right out — no, there are no major differences in Fire Emblem Engage if players choose one gender over the other.
Fire Emblem Engage is the latest entry in Nintendos long-running turn-based tactical strategy series. A somewhat series staple makes a return in Engage, which is to give the player the option to play as either a male or female. The series may not offer deep customization options, such as an RPG like Elden Ring, but having two gender options is better than one.
Once Fire Emblem Engage players boot up the game for the first time, theyll be taken to a screen that shows the male and female options for the protagonist. Players will need to choose one of the forms to continue, but which one should players choose?
To spit it right out no, there are no major differences in Fire Emblem Engage if players choose one gender over the other. The lines of dialogue are the same; the same support conversations can be had with all characters (no matter the gender), and the moveset is the same. The only difference players might need to think about is the voice acting. Of course, the male protagonist has a male voice actor, and the female protagonist has a female voice actor. Because of this, some of the lines might be performed differently but overall, there shouldnt be any differences besides the visual appearance of both heroes.

Is Rosado male or female?
Male Looking at his fellow retainer Goldmary, it should be obvious Rosado is a male.
Which Alear is canon?
As for the newest avatar, Alear, all we have is the announcement trailer using the male (not very strong evidence) and the new Forging Bonds event using the female version, with the male not even being added to the game yet.So, in conclusion, the most canonical versions of each Fire Emblem avatar are: Mark, Male Kris, Male Robin, Female Corrin, Default Kiran, Female Byleth (mostly), Male Shez and Female Alear. And thats it. So, when you start your Engage playthrough, just remember that if youre playing as Male Alear, youre playing it wrong. If you liked this video, why not subscribe and support me on Patreon like these fine people here? Is there a male or female protagonist in Fire Emblem Engage?
Thats not the case in Fire Emblem Engage, where you can reach S-rank support with any character regardless of the protagonists gender. The only difference this time around is aesthetic, so just choose whichever protagonist you think looks the best.
5. Explore the Somniel. Your base, the Somniel, is full of activities that grant items and other bonuses, but theyre not all available from the start. They unlock fairly quickly, and theres not always a clear message telling you when new activities become available, so youll need to explore to know they even exist.
By Chapter 9, youll have all of the most important activities unlocked, which are all clustered around the cafe at the north end of the base. Eating meals here will increase your support level with allies. Behind the counter sits the donation board, which lets you offer large amounts of money to the various nations of Fire Emblem Engages world in exchange for better item drops within their territory, plus caches of bonus items.
Does gender affect romance in Fire Emblem Engage?
One surprise in Fire Emblem Three Houses was the true introduction of same-sex relationships in the series. However, at the same time, only a few characters were romanceable if they were the same sex as the one the player chose. That has been thrown out the window in Fire Emblem Engage, as every single romanceable character can be romanced as either version of the player.
Like previous games, the S-tier support rank is limited to one of your comrades, but the ones below are the only truly romantic relationships. Others that you can S-tier that arent listed below are more platonic than romantic.
This list consists of sixteen characters alphabetically, with their respective countries and genders:
Why doesn t Fire Emblem Engage have romance?
For starters, the option to “romance” a companion doesnt unlock until relatively late in the game. The triggering event happens in a paralogue that becomes available shortly after the late-game plot twist that results in Alear becoming an Emblem themself. As you collect the 12 Emblem rings, youll notice that some paralogues require that you fight against your Emblems to unlock their max bond level. While you wont fight against Alear, completing their paralogue will net you the pact ring that you can give to any companion with an “A” rank, thus allowing you to “romance” them.
Its also not quite a straight-up “romance.” Alear is allowed to “bond” with characters regardless of gender, but some of these bonds will be romantic while others will be platonic. So while its possible for a male Alear to bond with, say, big daddy thiccums Vander, since hes one of the platonic options, youre gonna have to rely on your own headcanon to do the romantic heavy lifting.
I romanced the dancer Seadall, not for any real attraction (my heart forever belongs to Claude Fire Emblem) but because he was the cutest person I had the highest rank with. Once you give the pact ring to your chosen, theyll leave you with a nice memento on the desk in Alears chambers. I got a scarf. Seadall likes scarves.
Is Three Houses better than engage?
Thanks. Engage has better gameplay, but less customisation and is less replayable. Formerly known as maro_man aka lugi_lad. Three Houses has a much better and nuanced story, more interesting characters and several routes to play/replay through, while Engage has better gameplay/combat and prettier visuals.

- So how is engage compared to 3 houses
I am planning to start one of these this weekend. I only care about combat and customization. Story and characters just need to be good enough. Thanks.
Is Engage or Three Houses longer?
If you add Monastery time, recruiting everyone in Three Houses, etc. then Three Houses is probably longer.
I do enjoy actually playing Engage more than Three Houses, but thats obviously a personal opinion.
Is Fire Emblem Engage a dating sim?
In my opinion, every game needs a dating sim/romance component and a fishing minigame. Fire Emblem: Engagetechnically has both of these things. Alas, this is not enough a perfect game to make.
For some context, I came into Fire Emblemvia Three Houses, and have since played Three Hopes, Engageand about half of Awakening. I am not deeply immersed in the lore, the vibe and the general themes of these games, and am mainly coming into as someone who loved Three Houses.
Ill go onto the positives (of which there are plenty) in a moment, but Im going to start by focussing on how different these two games are, because it is such an interesting contrast for me. Three Houseswas intensely replayable, complex, political and deep, and a critical part of all of that, in my opinion, is that much of the tension, the drama and the conflict embedded in the game is prompted, enacted or realised by the human participants. Yes there are magic dragons, of course there are, but the problems youre trying to solve have very human causes. More than anything else, its a game about a focussed geopolitical situation, in which you are closely involved with much of the power players in the disputes, and can take a role in guiding the situation as it develops. You have a hand in shaping the growth of the nobility of three countries in conflict, and a significant role in how that conflict plays out over the span of years. And this is the sort of very human drama I absolutely adore. Adri goes into more detail about some of what makes Three Housesgreat here, so I wont bang on about it, but suffice it to say, I found it weighty, thoughtful and complex, as well as a fun opportunity to go hit bad guys with swords.
Can you marry in Fire Emblem Engage?
That being said, the game is still heavily character-focused, giving everyone their own arcs, and the support storylines between the protagonist and their followers tend toward the romantic. The game even features a marriage in all but name with the pact ring system.
Once the player has units at A-rank, theyre given a pact ring, which they can use to push a unit to S rank. They can only do this once, and the accompanying cutscene, for most characters, paints it as an engagement: a lifelong commitment of mutual devotion.
Fire Emblem Engage also ensures not to limit pact ring options with the player characters gender. All characters are available, and they react the same to the proposal, whether the player chooses to be a man or a woman.
In the end, it depends on what the player is looking for. They wont get the same mechanics from marriage, but theyll still get the character connections and chances for shipping.
