Can I Redesign My Wedding Ring?

Redesigning an old wedding ring can be a rewarding experience, especially if it represents a new beginning or a new life. It is a process similar to creating a custom ring, and it can be done with your own stones, loose diamonds, or other materials. Custom designs are accessible to everyone, and they can be made into a necklace, earrings, or a new ring that symbolizes your new life.

Renovating an existing ring can be a cost-effective way to lower costs, as the materials in your existing jewelry can be used in the new piece. As long as they are not damaged, the diamonds or gemstones in your existing ring can be reset into the new piece.

One way to redesign and repurpose an engagement ring after a broken engagement or divorce is to turn it into a pair of diamond earrings. You can either have a three-stone engagement ring or use the side of the ring for stud earrings.

There are many options for upgrading an old wedding ring, such as changing the center stone to a larger or better quality diamond or changing the side stone to a different color. By considering the possibilities and setting new intentions, you can create a unique and personalized ring that represents your new life.

Can a jeweler make a new ring from an old one?

We can use old jewelry gems and diamonds to make new jewelry. You can get a custom piece or set your gem(s) into one of our existing styles. This is a great service because most jewelry companies want you to buy new diamonds or gems. If you want to melt down or reuse your old jewelry, save and reuse the gems if they’re in good condition. You can get credit towards your new piece from the scrap value of your old gold or platinum. It’s not a good idea to melt down old jewelry and use it in a new piece. Here’s why: At FTJCo, we cast many pieces together to be as efficient as possible. Melting down your old jewelry would mean working on only one piece at a time, which would be less efficient and more expensive for you. When you melt gold again, you need to add at least 50% new metal or you’ll get holes in the casting. We always use 80% newly refined gold to guarantee the highest quality jewelry.

Is it okay to change your wedding ring?

You can upgrade your wedding ring anytime, but some major life events like birthdays and anniversaries are good reasons to get a new piece of jewelry. The 10th anniversary is a popular time for couples to upgrade their wedding rings. You don’t have to keep the same engagement ring or wedding band throughout your marriage. It’s common for couples to upgrade their engagement rings after many years of marriage. Upgrade your diamond now for a higher quality stone, a larger carat size, or a more brilliant cut. Your upgraded ring can reflect your marriage in the years to come.

  • My engagement ring cost $100, and my simple gold band was about $20 in 2002. This was all he could afford without borrowing money. My husband and I are now 39 and are completely debt free, w cars and a house. My point? This decision and a woman’s support to stay within a debt free budget can represent the commitment to each other AND a comfortable future. Never go into debt for rings and a wedding. Value your marriage more.

  • Wow! The US is soooo different from Europe, here in Europe people spend waaaaay way less money, engagement rings are usually pretty small solitaires and wedding bands are simple plain gold bands. I have always been shocked at all this implicit rules in the US regarding rings. Well, to each their own, in the end the most important thing is the love between the people getting married and being able to share that special day with their loved ones! Xx

  • Haven’t finished the article quite yet, but i LOVE #12 with your engagement band… so much so that I’ve been thinking about my own future ring set… but at the same time, what you said about its ability to stand alone is important too. #12 could definitely stand alone, though #2 is a nice versatile choice too. Such a fun subject to think about!

  • 200 000$? That’s a freaking Cessna! Engagement ring culture in the US has always intrigued me. Why would you spend so much on a ring? Why doesn’t the guy get anything in return, like a nice watch or a bracelet. Also most rings are too big and look tacky, imo of course. And of course all while contributing to the diamond trade… I would want my fiance to be pressured to buy something of this price range, I would much rather him spend that money towards something he liked or something we could both enjoy.

  • Ring 15 is gorgeous and very extravagant, too extravagant. It matches the engagement ring but it’s too much. Ring 12 matches your engagement ring but I think it’s too simple for Lucie. Ring 5 on the other hand, has the same waviness as Ring 12 but it has a double helix pattern that just gives it a little punch in terms of design.
