Can I Wear Doc Martens As A Wedding Guest?

Doc Martens can be worn to a wedding, provided they are styled thoughtfully and in accordance with the wedding’s tone and setting. They offer a unique way to express personal style while maintaining respect for the occasion. There is no age, gender, or event limit when it comes to wearing a Doc Marten, so there are no dress codes for casual, beach, semi-formal, and most formal events.

To choose the right style of Doc Martens for a wedding, consider the wedding’s theme and venue. Classic leather boots, such as the original 1460 model, can be great choices for weddings. Polished styles, such as boots with a polished finish, are also suitable for weddings.

For a comfortable and trendy outfit, pair Doc Martens over 60 with dresses, dress them down with denim, and add bold accessories. Doc Martens are not just for the young, but they are versatile and can be worn with any outfit when the right style and confidence are present. Black leather jackets and combat boots can be paired with Doc Martens, and a pink blouse with feminine details, a strand of pearls, well-fitting medium-wash skinny jeans, and a black Tory Burch logo belt can be a great look.

There is no age limit on fashion, and Doc Martens can be worn with any outfit, whether it’s a baby shower, wedding guest, or aunt’s tea. Make a statement on your wedding day with a stylish outfit featuring Doc Martens and explore unique ideas to create a bold and memorable look for your special day.

Can I have bare legs at a wedding?

I’ve said that bare legs are fine at formal events, but hosiery is also acceptable if it’s the same color and sheer. I just got back from a wedding where I wore my new $10.

This question came in just as I was about to talk about this…Dear Answer Angel Ellen: My son is getting married in November. I’m wearing a black sequined sheath. I have black sequined pumps that will look great with the dress. I’d rather wear tights because it’s November and the shoes are tight. Should I wear bare legs or hosiery? What color should I wear? Dear Sharri, I’ve just refined my advice on this question, thanks to some trial and error. People often ask The Angel about what to wear to weddings. Should you wear bare legs or hosiery to a wedding?

Is there anything you shouldn’t wear to a wedding?

Your everyday clothes. Even if the dress code allows casual attire, jeans, T-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, and sneakers are never appropriate for a wedding guest. Show respect for the bride and groom by dressing up. Sabatino says men should wear a jacket and tie even if the invitation says casual. “That’s honoring the occasion,” she says. At Avrumson’s wedding, a man wore a T-shirt under his suit in 90-degree heat. I wasn’t upset because of the weather. It’s more important that everyone has a good time. However, she doesn’t like too-casual bags. A big mistake: If you’re wearing a beautiful dress, don’t bring the same bag you go shopping with.

Show-off outfits. Don’t wear revealing clothes, says Sabatino. Crop tops, dresses with mesh, short skirts, plunging necklines, and form-fitting gowns are more appropriate for a night out than a wedding. A skimpy outfit will attract negative attention and take attention away from the bride.

What is acceptable to wear to a wedding as a guest?

White Tie: The most formal dress code, requiring a full-length gown for women and a tailcoat, black trousers, wing-collared shirt, waistcoat, and bow tie for men. Black Tie: Men should wear a tuxedo, while women can choose a floor-length gown or elegant cocktail dress. Black Tie Optional: This dress code allows men to wear a tuxedo or dark suit, and women to wear a floor-length gown or cocktail dress. Cocktail attire: Women should wear a knee-length or mid-length dress, and men can wear a dark suit with a dress shirt. For daytime weddings, women can wear a knee-length or midi dress, while men can wear a lighter suit. For evening events, wear darker colors and more formal attire. Dressy Casual: Women can wear a casual dress or separates, while men should wear dress pants with a collared shirt and blazer. Wedding Attire by Season. The season also affects what you wear. Follow these seasonal guidelines:

Summer: Choose light, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, and chiffon. Consider sundresses, midis, or short-sleeved shirts with dress pants. Fall: Use jewel tones and rich fabrics like velvet and silk. A jumpsuit, maxi dress, or knee-length cocktail dress is appropriate, as are dark suits for men. Wear formal attire like floor-length gowns or tuxedos. Add a faux fur shawl or wrap for warmth. Incorporate pastels and floral prints in your attire, with knee-length dresses, suits, and floral accents.

Is it acceptable to wear boots to a wedding?

You can wear boots to a winter wedding. Boots are a functional yet stylish option that will keep you warm and ready for whatever the weather (and the wedding) has in store. They also go well with black tie formal wear and dressy jumpsuits or mini dresses. Avoid dress shoes if the ceremony is outside. You don’t want to slip on the snow. We recommend Timberland boots for warmth and dryness. You could also wear the Original Yellow Boots. You probably want something more elevated. Wear dark brown chukka boots under your dress or suit. Not all dress codes are the same. Timberland boots are casual, but not for a formal event. If the event is black tie and the ceremony is indoors, boots may look too casual. If it’s raining or snowing, wear your Timberlands to the venue. Then, change into your heels or dress shoes. Wear long sleeves and faux fur to stay on trend. Don’t wear white.

Should you wear leather to a wedding?

Leather jacket. Be careful. A leather jacket is only for weddings where cocktail attire is allowed. This is too casual for a wedding. If you’re going to a fun party wedding, this would work. Match the couple’s vibe!

Suede jacket. A suede jacket is the same. This is trickier, but it can be done. Don’t pair this with a floor-length gown, but maybe a short cocktail dress. Or a simple dress for a day or early evening wedding. Pretty cardigans and lady jackets. A cropped, embellished cardigan is a sweet addition. A black cardigan with embellished buttons makes it dressier.

What do ladies wear to weddings as a guest?

Wedding guests should wear a long dress. Wear high heels. Accessorize with jewelry and white silk gloves.

  • It is called a reverse slope whenever a such a road is found is nothing more than the eye being fooled by a mathematics of reverse slope is the phenomenon we’re in our eyes cannot tell which direction is down in the road or something to that basically our eyes are being fooled just look at reverse slope on Google and you don’t understand the meaning you want to say

  • I was born in 1960..63 yrs old. When I was 38 many thought I was around 18. And that has been the case my whole life. I believe that it’s a personal choice for all us beauties to wear what makes us feel awesome and makes us smile when we look into the mirror. These days women in their 50s 60s 70s…we don’t look like our mothers did…we look much younger with our longer hair modern attire and healthier eating. Let’s ENJOY!!!

  • Eighty-one, and recently my rabbi’s wife told me, “Nancy, you are the most stylish woman I know.” I have lived on that compliment since. I am on a fixed income, but I shop thrift stores and glean wonderful items from posh Dallas women who donate their clothes to charities. I think, if one has taste and a good knowledge of clothing construction, one can discern the best.

  • Thank you for the reminder of tapping into our intuition! I’m enjoying wearing some glittery platforms that I bought at my favorite thrift store back in the early 2000’s, so I think they are from the 90s. That’s one of my current closet crushes!!! Thank you for your article inspirations! You are beautiful inside and out!!!

  • I’m back to wearing heels, but I’m wearing 2-3 inch block heels. I feel comfortable in them and stable. I’m 65 and battle vertigo. I bought 3 prs of booties and 2 prs of mules in varying heel heights and I LOVE them I forgot how much better I look in heels! Thank you Heather for the encouraging tips.

  • Heather I’m glad you believe no matter what our age or budget we can be stylish and shop your website. I just really wish you believed that no matter what our size we could be as well. I have watched your website for some time and NEVER once have I seen you link anything that is available in plus size. Nor have I seen you do content for someone more than a body type similar to yours. Knowledge of Size inclusivity is a must for someone who considers themselves a stylist. IMO

  • The advice at the end is definitely great advice. I learned if I try something on and I don’t immediately like it on me or feel good in it then it will just sit in my closet or I will grudgingly wear it just because I spent money on it. Then I am in a grumpy mood all day LOL. I learned if it’s not a “YES” right away then don’t buy it. I have saved so much time and money sticking to this rule. Thanks Heater for another great article !!!

  • I love all the looks, my favorite were your thigh high boots with the olive green midi dress! I just stumbled on your you tube and I’m so happy. I’m 57 and always questioning if what I’m wearing is appropriate. I’m a teacher so mainly I’m wearing teacher type clothing, which can be a little boring. My shoes usually need to be flats or athletic shoes. It’s hard for me to feel stylish wearing those kinds of shoes. I always have to be prepared for PE and don’t really have time to change. Thank you for any ideas!

  • I like most of your styling suggestions. I’ve never cared for the mini’s. I bought some ripped jeans and ended up putting patches on them. I guess like a little fraying without holes…others can pull off the look better then me. I really like the way you style your skinny jeans and dresses. You gave me some ideas of what I can pull together that I already own. TFS

  • I totally agreed. Love your mindset as we get older dressing age appropriate is important it only makes sense. We can still look beautiful and classy it is all about mix and match. I sure don’t want to dress like I’m in my 20s walking next to my 25 year old daughter lol. This is how I dress just as well just not with websites brand ( can’t afford it) lol. Subscribed.

  • I agree with EVERYTHING you said- and what a GREAT way to SUM it UP at the end! I’ve never seen you before but would love you to mention your height & measurements. You look AMAZING in some of these things that may not work on my 5’2″ 110lb frame… BUT I’m going to TRY them!! And coincidentally, I’ve been ‘considering’ a Balmain for 2 years now… You CONVINCED me to just DO IT!

  • Heather I found a great affordable line of high waisted denim in various leg styles Level 99 and Dear John. They’re from LA and prices are $100-120. They come in lots of washes distressed lightly and not distressed. I’ve seen them in Scottsdale. Have you seen them in Dallas? Just passing on as a tip. Another brand I’m going to try is Pistola, they’re $140-150 range.

  • I appreciate the tips on how to wear a short skirt over 40. Miniskirts generally look good on me, being short and luckily having good legs. But I just resized one to fit that is shorter than my other ones (technically, it’s edging on the mircro length). I am definitely wearing it for fall with opaque tights so no chance of flashing panties. But I love the tip about the boots and the jacket on top. What difference it makes! I will wear it with that much more confidence.

  • This was so neat. My problem is that I have arthritis in all joints, bad ankles and feet etc. It would be cool if you could do a article for older ladies that can’t wear heels at all. I do wear uggs quite a bit as I live in a small mountain town in Arizona. I’m so limited. But thanks for your posting today… you are a class act.

  • I find a good way to figure out(for comfort) what heels to wear is to stand on your tiptoes and see/figure out how high you can sort of comfortably stand on your tiptoes and get a friend to measure that, heel to floor. It gets difficult for me to walk in, when going for a heel higher than that, my max is about 8/8,5 cm high(except when it has a bit of a platform of course).

  • I was wearing my favorite jeans with two rips in them on the knee and one on the thigh. ( I’m 63 years old). Some lady looked at me with such disgust. I couldn’t believe her expression. I ended up sewing the holes with other denim and made them look normal. I looked online at Nordstrom and found jeans that had denim patches with lines of stitches. They are really cute and I still wear them. They are 100% denim cotton and I love the fabric. I have noticed that now you can find jeans that have no stretch in them and without holes in them. Just thought I would share this experience with you. 💕

  • Round toe flats make you look older? No. A stylish loafer with a slightly cropped (oh no!!!) pant can look very youthful and stylish. Shorter, well yeah, if you don’t wear a heel you will be shorter. The above comment is one of those “one rule fits all” mottos I hear from you and a lot of influencers that really needs to be given with a lot of caveats (or perhaps a suggestion about how to wear it to not look frumpy). ETA: Your take on the miniskirt (with green jacket/knee-high boots) was spot on.

  • Oh my! We share the same birthday, only I just turned 65. I am a great believer that no woman should ever look older than 45-:) I walk my talk. It really is not that difficult. It’s mostly preventative & good maintenance with our skin & hair care, our fitness & health, how we dress & present ourselves to the world & does not have to involve surgeries or injectables. It feels good to hear people say with utter surprise…. You’re 65? You sure don’t look 65. After all aging is really a state of mind.

  • I used to wear stilettos. But after have back surgery, I find it hurts my back to wear them. 😪 So after trying different heights of heels, the one’s that I feel comfortable in are the 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches. I like my kitten heels. And yes that have the skinny heel and also in between, to chunky heels.

  • In this article I estimate your age at 55+, you might even make someone believe you are a 60+. You say you’re turning 50, so you’ve got a long way to go. I suggest ‘stop thinking about fashion and age in one breath’ – because it’ll make you older in one go. Besides, too much thinking will cause wrinkles, fast aging, tired appearance and so on.

  • I do think there is age appropriate and inappropriate clothing. I am 43 and I have changed from my 20s. Colors I like are more neutral and classy. In my earlier clubbing years I loved to show show my belly and wear brighter colors. I feel like now i know what fits (as opposed to too big or too small). I invest in timeless pieces that can last forever. Im the same weight and body shape prior my 2 babies but I am not sure I would wear those outfits that I wore back then lol. All of these tips are amazing! Highlight Highlight femininity, classy and trendy! Loved this article!

  • I’m a bit confused-with Jean length have heard other influencer say you should show a sliver of skin between the boot and Jean. I live in jeans and love a bootie for winter. Granted I am 62 hutbIm on board with the various styles of jeans to choose from but pairing the bootie with the jean can be tricky

  • I love, love army green because it’s the one stunning neutral that’s more exciting than others that doesn’t wash me out. I’m a winter dark eyes, jet black hair and light complexion. Dusky, muted tones look awful on me, l look ill or washed out. So even neutrals like light grey, beige, dusty pink, ivory actually all look terrible on me alone. They must be paired with strong saturated colors on me like black, navy, maroon, olive etc to work

  • these could apply to woman of all ages but I get your target audience is women over 40. I am assuming that as this is the first article of yours I’ve watched. I’m 42 but I did start dressing different at 23 when I became a mum.👏 for the vegan suggestions. Loved what you said about intuition, so true! Your style reminds me of Dorit Kemsley

  • @12:30 l am naturally a very petite gal not quite 5ft tall age 35 (double zero, even 000 in some brands). I naturally “swim” in clothes unless they’re cut for teenagers/junior miss. I need XXS when most brands only carry XS which fits like a size 2 on me. I have made such clothes work on me by embracing an oversize look by layering esp for fall and winter. Starting with tiny pieces, adding larger layers and ending with the bulky stuff. The key is to do so strategically in only one half of the body. The top being bulky/oversize, the bottom is fitted, tight, long. And vice versa. Finish off the look with something that has a comfortable, thicker heel for a feminine touch. Do l look old? I don’t think so. Where l live young people embrace relaxed, looser fit clothes. Do l look huge “bigger”? Yes and no, it’s obviously a style statement to pull off the baggy look full stop. It makes me embrace “taking up more space” because as women we are programmed to MAKE OURSELVES SMALL. You feel me? The only drawback is that l have a terrifically trim figure with a tiny, defined waist that most clothes don’t highlight on me. Oh well, when I’m at the gym though, my hourglass shape is on display. I love, love wearing crop tops and cute sports bras that show off my mid riff. Cannot wait for summer to be on court side or golf course in my tennis skirt and full coverage sports bra!

  • Ist I believe we all have our personal taste and style and that is all that matters it’s what how we feel beautiful in Personally I stop denim jeans when I turn fifty except jean in gabardine or twill or genuine black leather straight style almost always with classic tops in black or white plaiñ or in prints and of course turtle necks in fine fabrics like silk rayon cashmere or other always paired with heeled boots pumps straps etc:l am 90 now still sticking to my own style of quiet elegance

  • I was always between a size 9 and 12 during my teen and young adult years. Even after having kids I was a size 14..I maintained that for 40 years. After I retired from the workforce a decade ago..I just sat around and ate..I blew up to a size 26xx..I had never been that big in my life. I was horrified..my kids were concerned..i did yoyo dieting..which don’t work for me..got high blood pressure and other problems..but this time..I eat healthy now and do some exercise..and now I can fit into a size 14..or some materials a 12..and I am trying to get to a goal weight. I ask God to help me live longer.

  • These tips apply to all ages, especially these tips: 1) Too much space between your jeans and ankle boots makes your legs look short or shorter; 2) Wear heels 👠 in a height in which you are comfortable waking. Wobbly legs are awkward and unattractive at any age; 3) Wearing too many oversized pieces at once is not attractive at any age. It may look sloppy. Extra tip: Wear clothes that make you comfortable and reflect your confidence.

  • These suggestions would fit all women in my opinion. I 100% believe over 40, 40, 60, 70+ should wear anything they want if they are comfortable; shouldn’t let society judge you because when you go in a store the clothing does not say “not for women 40+”, you got green it’s for everyone. Far as fat shaming, have we seen many young women who are sexy curving, well you are too, go for it, block the na-sayers and strut yourself.

  • How about over 60? Lol! I had to get rid of my entire wardrobe of my youngish clothes even though I do have the body to pull them off. I love crop top, not the type that shows the tummy but just a little shorter top but had to let all of them go. I am trendy and it is sad that my style of dressing is no longer appropriate. I hate grandma clothings!

  • For starters, wearing anything showing that much cleavage, may not be the best choice- depending upon the body shape or type. Only if she actually has the body for these garments; specifically the ‘Shape’ of a woman’s breast area. Not trying to be unkind, it’s a fact. This applies to any woman, but it’s far more unflattering for one over 40. A correctly fitted bra would make a huge difference, no matter the age of a woman. I’m not saying that no cleavage should be allowed when wearing a garment. One has to be realistic, concerning her age and bodies. Showing cleavage can be sexy, alluring and appealing. Isn’t that the goal, in part?

  • I’m 39 on Christmas Eve and now that I’m close to 40 I feel more conscious of what I wear. I don’t want to dress like a women in her 20s, I enjoy acting and dressing my age. I have always dressed much older then I am anyway. I’ve been quite modest. I’m not going to lie, I like the 1st pic. I have always been a street wear casual type dresser. I love those short jeans with sneakers look. I have long legs so can’t pull it off lol

  • I’m a bit confused. There is nothing attractive about dried up skin, unusual folds, lumps, and all the other things that appear by magic. If your legs are not firm or have lumps never mind your age. Judge by what shapes need camouflage and not how old you are. I don’t mean to be hurtful but long dangling hair extensions don’t work for older women. Some people are tied down to current fads. They don’t see themselves realistically and you can see how hard they try to hold on. I cannot understand being ruled by someone else’s fashion choices. Ripped jeans? That’s peer pressure pure and simple. Nothing attractive about it.
