White pants can be worn to a wedding if the dress code permits it, but it is not recommended unless the dress code permits it. If you do wear white pants, pair them with a bright-colored or patterned shirt, choose a suitable fabric, accessorize appropriately, and consider the wedding venue. Opt for white-based prints and avoid floral wedding guest dresses with a prominent white pattern or background. For a semi-formal wedding, white pants can work if paired with a dressy top and the overall look is refined and polished. Linen outfits can be considered formal attire for weddings, but the simple answer is ‘no,’ unless the invite calls for it. For a casual yet pulled-together look, pair linen pants with a crisp white crop top, jean jacket, linen blazer, or cardigan. For a more formal look, wear a suit with a matching jacket and pants, or a double-breasted jacket. Linen and wool can provide warmth and coziness during winter. Pair a long-sleeve linen dress with a long-sleeve wool dress for a cozy look.
When choosing a suit or sport coat for a wedding, consider the occasion, dress code, and location. For black tie or formal weddings, a suit is recommended, while for semi-formal or cocktail attire, either a suit or a sport coat can be appropriate. Long and Lean suit from Banana Republic offers a flowy cut with wide-legged trousers for women. Slide sandals are a great accessory for summer weather, and for daytime weddings, lighter fabrics, festive colors, and less-formal attire are recommended. Men should opt for a well-tailored suit in a mid-to-dark neutral color. Linen trousers are a great option for relaxed, breathable pants, either as part of a 2-piece suit or as part of a linen pants linen shirt combo. Chinos should not be worn to semi-formal weddings due to their stiffness. If the wedding theme, dress code, and location warrant a pair of white pants, it is acceptable to wear them without issue. Linen clothing is a great choice for summer destination weddings, as it is lightweight and suitable for casual wear. Pant suits are a great way to complete the look.

📹 5 WHITE LINEN TROUSERS OUTFITS TO MAKE YOU LOOK YOUNGER
In this video, I show you how to create outfits with a pair of white linen trousers /linen pants to stay cool and effortlessly French …
I’m not a trouser fan because I can’t get a good fit in them. But, I love my linen dresses, skirts and tops for summer. The first big heat wave is coming this week in the San Francisco Bay Area, fortunately all my linen items are ironed and ready to go (I iron them carefully after washing, then forget about the creasing when I wear them). I can’t tolerate even cotton when it’s 100F, linen is a lifesaver.
I wish I could wear some of the linen pants. I’m short so the huge legs look a bit comical on me. I would have to spend more money to have them hemmed as well. I found some linen shorts and tops at Land’s End which I like very much. I am grateful for elastic waists as I am on a weight-loss program, and find myself between sizes. The elastic waist gives me leeway for the time being. Love your articles, Marie-Anne!
I have always loved linen. I have recently learned a valuable lesson. Linen tailored trousers that I bought in the spring have seemed too big and baggy and remained in the wardrobe. I attended a trouser pattern fitting course in October which taught me that I have a short rise which means that the crotch seam is too long. I took the waistband off, tinkered with additional pleats and darts, renewed the waistband back on without having to mess with the zip. Bingo, they fall better, sit better! Marie Anne, you are so right……Know your body shape for the best results
I love it when you compare the creases in linen to ‘smile lines.’ Summers in California can be really hot. I have both pure linen and linen-blend long pants that I wear to work and to restaurants. For ladies going through menopause, linen may just be the fabric of choice to help with hot flashes while carrying on with their daily lives.
Marie-Ann, thanks to your articles, I have recently fallen in love with linen, and I embrace the creases! Can you advise on the best type of bottoms (skirt or trousers) for a big stomach? I’m sure you have heard this a million times, but I still need more advice. I feel that if I wear structured clothes, they hang from the outmost part of my stomach leaving a large area of fabric unfilled and baggy, if you can picture this. Many of us are the type of plus size that isn’t just a blown up version of a perfect size 10, with beautiful curves and a flat (ish) stomach. I, for example, carry all my extra weight on my stomach. I’m probably a size 16 but with a size 20 waistline. If it fits my stomach, it’s a little loose on my hips. I can’t wear dresses because they hang off me like Demis Roussos (God rest his soul!) Thanks to all your advice, I’m no longer hiding behind leggings and a baggy T-shirt!! (Oh the shame!!) I have realised, that whilst I am successfully working on my weight, I’d rather be chic and overweight than scruffy and overweight. When I shop, I don’t necessarily say ” Would Marie-Ann wear this?”, as we are completely different shapes; but I do say to myself “Would Marie-Ann choose this for me?” and it’s genuinely helping. Just a great big thankyou for helping me to stop hiding and stop fearing I will be noticed if I have put a nice outfit together and look good. Right, off to TK Maxx to raid their linen rail 😉
Thanks so much for the additional helpful hints on linen pants. I found a couple pairs of classic linen trousers (GH) when they were discounted. The quality is superb and they are ultra comfortable. You are right that elastic waist linen pants will make the wearer look larger. I made that mistake with a pair of cropped high-waist/elastic linen pants (from another retailer) that within 30 minutes of wearing made me look huge. I don’t have that problem with the GH classic linen trousers. I wore the indigo color today and I paired them with a sleeveless cropped one button popover in polyester fabric (shirttail hem). The cropped top still provided excellent coverage for the tummy and derriere. NOTE: I am a pear shape and very particular about how clothing looks from the backside.🤣 In other words, I’m not trying to make my derriere look bigger than it is.😂
This was absolutely perfect timing! I also don’t prefer to show my legs while I’m going through my third pregnancy because of varicose veins. They have not been very kind to me… So I have been opting for linen and long dresses! I have been very fortunate to find some nice linen pants second hand. You gave me some great inspiration on how to where am I sage, green linen pants though! I was only wearing them with black and white, but I see that they would look great with my other colors of teal and blue as well! And I could probably even pull off my yellow linen button down with them too.
Bonjour Marie Anne! C’est toujours un plaisir de vous voir!! Merci beaucoup de votre conseille… your tips are of really great value. Just 2 questions: 1. Which is the difference between chic and formal? 2. Are your online classes available also on europen evening/night time (i.e. 18.00 – 21.00)? Thank you so much for… well, everything! All the best from Italy, Emanuela
Hi Marie-Anne, I would like to ask for some help please. I had breast cancer and have mastectomy done, and I have no plan to for the implant. So now I have my tommy bigger than my breast and I have no idea how to dress to get my confidence back. I think I need your help to guide me how to fix this circumstances of mine. Thanks Marie-Anne.
Marie-Anne I am off work today, having a glass of red wine, and enjoying perusal some of your older articles! I subscribed to your website a while back because you taught me how to Rock my new Moto Jacket! Now I found this special article about White Linen Trousers! White Linen Trousers have been a staple in my summer wardrobe for a very long time! I probably have 10+ pairs!! I agree, they are extremely comfortable and elegant! I always feel more confident and beautiful when I wear them! 5*****!!!
Thank you Marie-Anne, I have white linen trousers and I probably would have only wore them with a plain T-Shirt or a striped top, the outfits you put together, I have all those pieces and you have given me great ideas to try them, you looked lovely in them all, hope I can look as good as you when I wear them. 😘
I like the linen trousers with the blue tennis shoes and blue and white striped blouse very much. I would wear that, however, I have red converse sneakers, so that’s what I shall wear… hee hee, I love every outfit on you, you have a great slender shape and everything looks nice on you and very chic. Aloha, stephanie
Hello Marie-Ann, Lots of fun – I love white linen pants for summer and vacations – are the looks you showed are wonderful. This summer I got some great black & white Sorel sandals – I’m feeling quite inspired to wear black and white for much of the summer (I’m a lady who loves colour) but sometimes it’s fun to give oneself a style challenge to shake things up – I already have much black and white in my wardrobe so it’s having fun with pieces I already own – Cheers
Marie Anne, I just bought a pair of white linen pants and am excited to wear it as summer is already here in Houston. As always, I come on to youtube to look for styling tips. I didn’t need to look too far as your article gave my favorite combinations. I love navy blue with white. They look so fresh and elegant together. Countless combinations. And I love all your sandals. So pretty and comfortable. I try to find a pair, but not easy. And your last look with the dress as jacket, that is such a exotic and pretty look.
My favorites were the “Louvre”, the “Normandie day” and the one with the black blouse. That specific one reminded me of my granny’s favorite look for summer. She had a blouse just like that and she wore it with black trousers and beautiful black sandals with faux pearls straps. I have white jeans and white cropped pants but I had no white dress trousers for the office so I just ordered my taylor to make one for me in off white cotton. Let’s see how it looks!😸 I will share this article to all my friends because all combinations are fabulous!
Thanks so much for this article! I have a pair of wide leg linen pants in black and a pair in gray. I also have cropped white, cropped chambray blue and cropped khaki. They have become my summer uniform with cotton t’s or tanks, and my white straw fedora. Thank you for additional ideas! I think my favorite is the black wide-collared top! 😃
Bonjour Marie-Anne and thank you for the wonderful outfits! I love them all especially the ones with the silk camisoles and the blue linen shirt 😍 Blue and white are my favorite colours too! I am a great fan of you and your website, love all things french and all about french lifestyle. with love from a little town in Bavaria, Birgit
As always, a wonderful, inspiring article! I love white linen trousers, striped tops, and feminine camisoles! All the outfits appealed to me. Wish I could travel to Venice or Normandy to wear these outfits and enjoy the sun, atmosphere, people, and sites! Perhaps when the quarantine is only a memory will my dream come true. Thank you for your French Fashion advise.
Love love love this article! White linen trousers are the favourite item in my wardrobe but I’m never sure what to pair them with. Would never have thought of the camisole & shirt / blazer option which looks fantastic on you. Guess what I’ll be wearing for this weekend’s BBQ? Merci pour l’inspiration, Anne-Marie ❤️
Beautiful outfits Marie-Anne. Very nice indeed. Great range of footwear too. I just love little Peanut. Regards Bev xx What is the name of the town where you live?? My husband and i looked at the map of Normandy and wondered. Yes I understand now why your summers are not very hot. Our average summer temperatures are low 30’s with high humidity and occasional spikes taking the temps to high 30’s. I stay indoors those days. Lol xx
I recently added a solid navy linen jacket to my wardrobe – too warm to wear it here yet . Love all the pairings – you can’t go wrong with white linen pants . I find it interesting that French women like American style sneakers . I always avoid them choosing European style – Via Spiga leather sneaks my latest buy . Maybe it is a bit of ‘we want what we can’t have’ . Maybe it’s a way to feel a connection to the continent . First time in Europe I really noticed the shoes – many styles that didn’t make it to North America until another 4 or 5 years later .
Love call of your combinations here Marie – Anne.. many thanks for such elegant styling tips and have been sharing many of your posts with my twin sister here in England as well… Ruth Thomson. Have learned new things from you as I am 62 now but still feel like thirty something in many ways. I do really like your dark indigo navy boot cut denim jeans too on you and totally agree that boot cut are a great and very flattering chic shape For women …..elegant even when casual. Tres chic you look fabulous always . Have a very lovely summer .😊🎉
Enjoyed this very much. Your figure is marvelous and the outfits look perfect on you. I am an `old` lady and have lost my amazing figure through the years. I am still curvy – but with extra curves in the wrong places. Wish some of your choices would be suitable for plump French ladies. !!!!! Your vlogs are a breath of fresh air.
LOVE white linen slacks and wear mine all the time – you are my wardrobe kindred spirit! I have a blazer very similar to yours but it’s ivory with navy trim – and I really like how you mix taupe/tan with the white – it is such a classy and elegant combination. I have linen slacks the color of your sweater and wear it with a white linen blouse – one of my favourite looks. Have a great rest of the week! 😘
GGM! I’am perusal your delightful article at the end of the day when I’ve learned that this torrid August will be more busy than ever!😦Just as everybody else at my work place. But I will try to use my linen trousers, which, btw, are also wide. I am aware I have a little strange look in an era where the strech trousers are very trendy and most of the persons will wear them. Even men. But these wide linen trousers are sooooo comfortable. It is a pitty linen does not look well the whole day. I do not starch them. None of the linen for that mateer. There are linen and linen, some beter than others. Well, I hope most of the laddies perusal your articles and yourself, will have a great August month. Peanut is adorable. 🌞🐕🐾
Nice outfit ideas …they way u style your outfit and your funfilled mood and attitutde ..cheers my mood and motivates me to experiment with my wardrobe aswell . I have seen the article where you spoke about how to dress well at home ..it will be nice to see some outfits and to get some ideas from you .. how to dress well at home ..since we r spending so much time in quarantine this year ..:-)
I love all the blue! I don’t own white linen trousers, but I do have a really beautiful pair of lightweight white slacks of excellent quality, a pair of white jeans, and a white eyelet skirt. All three of those look fabulous paired the way you did these trousers. My personal favorite is with a red silk shirt and with an off the shoulder navy tee. I have a small leather and straw bag and I wear So much navy that I finally got a small navy with white polkadot scarf. Sometimes I wear it around my neck, but a lot of times I just wear a tied to my bag. Navy is my favorite neutral!
Oh wow, great options Marie-Anne Lecoeur with a white linen trouser as a base! I was wondering maybe in a place closer to the equator where the summer may be more intense will a maxi white linen skirt do as well(for some reason I think a skirt may feel even cooler temperature wise)? Thanks for all the great chic ideas you share in your wonderful website Marie-Anne!
All these outfits are lovely, fresh and stylish! I have linen trousers in several neutral colours (white, light beige, navy blue and kaki) and so many combinations are possible. They are a Must 🙂 I know they must be long enough, but I’m not a fan of the bottoms dragging on the floor so I don’t wear them with very flat shoes or sneakers. So I really like your outfits with a bit of a heel. Also the camisole outfits are beautiful, however about the white one, I’d avoid wearing 2 bows at the same time (top and trousers), it’s a little too much for me but that’s just me 🙂 Lately I’ve been disappointed by the Marks and Spencer linen trousers quality: they used to last for years and years, and were my favourite but not any more.
Marie-Anne, I love all your outfits and they are very much like my summer style. Navy and white is my favorite combination and I am in love with linen. I was wondering what do you think about combining navy and black, I have seen in some American influencers that they do it but for me, it just doesn’t feel right…what do you think?
All of these outfits are all so chic! The black silk T with the trousers is SO sexy, and the dress drapes beautifully and looks very elegant. One very minor suggestion; to me, the trousers look a little long with the sneakers. You could temporarily shorten them about an inch with Hollywood tape on the back, and then take the tape out and re-iron when you want them longer again. Just a suggestion. Also – Peanut is adorable! What a sweet little face!
I have one pair that i only wear with my Castañer Espadrilles or platform sandals, they are as long as yours so i will never wear them with sneakers it brings a pajamas effect .My favorite looks is the one where you wear them with the nude pair of sandals and the camel cardigan it is so femenine and classic👌.
Another question/comment: As “stark” white or true white-white is too ” strong” for my coloring— ( natural grey hair and fair skin) — would you recommend purchasing an ivory pair of linen slacks? Instead of actual white? Also, I am 65 and have a body type of more weight over the years. So, not sure if a light color from waist down would look good. ? I am an inverted triangle body type. I figure slim leg style pants also instead if wide – to appear slimmer. Thanks! Merci beaucoup!
I don’t like white trousers at all but I love linen from head to toe 😀 My first pairs of trousers are about 13 years old, natural color and burgundy (unfortunately I have to loose some centimeters after baby to wear it again) and I bought in last years some more pieces and I love to wear it. The only thing I’m worry about it is that my partner doesn’t want to wear it to the office :-/ For him is the texture of linen shirt too casual but I think it still looks better then T-shirt. Greetings from Prague 🙂
Hello Marie-Anne, I have just found your website and just adore your articles. I am learning so much, Thankyou. I live in Australia and we are about to be in spring so I and building a capsule wardrobe to get myself started as I am approaching 40 and am excited to start collecting some nicer pieces than I have in the past. I have a quick question, I am an hour glass and don’t feel comfortable in white pants just yet as I am a ladies 12-14 do you think it would work if I purchased navy linen pants in place of the white? Thank you for your time ❤
Hello Mary-Anne, Beautiful outfits! I don’t wear linen bottoms (especially white) anymore because they add so much weight to my bottom, because of the sloppy wrinkles that make me look like I slept in them and because my whites don’t stay white. I don’t use bleach because it yellows my whites. How do you care for your linen and how do you keep it freshly white and presentable?
Marie-Anne, I think that I am seeing that your trouser have a tie in the fornt. Am I correct? I don’t know what to do about the lump from the tie. Should I do a French tuck for that?? Also, how do you keep your sneakers from rubbing? Do you wear something like a sock underneath? I am sure there is a way to wear sneakers without them really hurting your skin. Can you tink of good shoes to go woalking in al day where the streets, like in France are not even. Like the cobblestone streets! I can’t wait to get back to France or Italy. But I worry about shoes. Your doggie is adorable! Beautiful outfits!
This is actually Christine- don’t know why I appear to be my husband making a comment. I really like the outfits, but found myself wincing when seeing the bottom of the white trousers about to disappear under the soles of the sneakers. I certainly would not like to see the state of the trouser hems after one wearing outside. Peanut is adorable.
I would also love to see a article on dealing with what I call “trouser hem problems”. Problem #1) I wear shoes with heights from flat (0.5 inches) to about 2.75 inches high and I have ruined trousers in just one wearing if they are too long; do you tape them up temporarily to wear with flats? Narrow leg trousers can be turned up into a cuff temporarily, but I don’t always like the look, and wide leg trousers, which are in style and I love, are always a problem if the hems are too long. Problem #2) I don’t know if its just me, but when I wear trousers with sandals (even those with ankle straps), the hems get under the heels of my shoes when I walk, which feels really uncomfortable and looks bad, I’m sure. I usually end up permanently hemming them to the shorter length, but then they don’t look as good with heels. The ideal, of course, would be to have two pairs, hemmed to different lengths, but I can’t afford that. Any idea, dear Marie-Anne?
